Sean PembertonHaverfordwest County gained a convincing victory against Pontypridd Town at the Leckwith Stadium in awful conditions.

This was the third meeting between the two clubs this season, and the Bluebirds have won each time, scoring 18 goals in total and conceding just twice.

Jack Wilson came off the bench and the teenager claimed a second half brace; Kaid Mohamed was on target with his first goal for the Bluebirds; Danny Williams hit the back of the net and skipper Sean Pemberton also scored to celebrate his 33rd birthday. It was also long serving coach Mikey Ellis’ 60th birthday!

The visitors took the lead in the 12th minute when Mohamed ghosted past two defenders and comfortably slotted past Dragons’ goalkeeper David Burnett.

In the 23rd minute the Dragons squared matters when player manager Gavin Beddard netted past Steve Hall.

Birthday Pemberton strikes

Five minutes before the interval and the visitors regained the lead, birthday boy Pemberton scoring with a sweetly struck left foot volley.

After the break and the visitors dominated territory and possession and were rewarded with a third goal in the 54th minute.

Excellent work by Ben Fawcett saw his cross turned in by Danny Williams.

Goal number four was scored in the 84th minute, Wilson coolly finished past Burnett from a one-on-one with the Dragons’ keeper.

On the stroke of full time the visitors added a fifth; Pemberton’s long ball over the top fell kindly to Elliot Scotcher, the midfielder unselfishly squared to Wilson who slotted into an empty net for his second of a productive afternoon.

“It’s the best we’ve played since I’ve returned this season,” said Haverfordwest County manager Wayne Jones.

“The boys adapted well to the difficult conditions and played some terrific football to secure the points.”
