Ten-man Bluebirds lose out against the Magpies

Ammanford 2 – Haverfordwest County 0

Sean PembertonAmmanford thoroughly deserved their victory against an out of sorts ten-man Haverfordwest County under lights in the picturesque Recreation Ground.

Goals from Mathew Fisher and Euros Griffiths sealed the points, but matters got worse for the Bluebirds when they had skipper Sean Pemberton sent off for a second bookable offence.

Earlier in the season the Bluebirds shot down the Magpies 4-0 at the Conygar Bridge Meadow, but in this reverse fixture the home outfit were worthy of the points.

Not taking anything away from the Magpies, but the Bluebirds are missing that cutting edge up front, since the departures of top scorers Lee Trundle and Danny Williams at Christmas, also Ashley Bevan not playing plus Ben Fawcett suspended, they’re struggling to fill the void.

The Magpies had the better of the first half, and deservedly led 1-0 at the half time.

Former Bluebird Richard Lewis, now playing for the homesters, dragged a right-footed edge of the area shot wide of Stuart Hall’s post.

Elliot Thomas got dispossessed in midfield and the move led to Craig Frater narrowly missing the target.

Bluebirds skipper Pemberton powered a header from a corner over the cross bar, and Jack Wilson rounded the keeper, but his low cross across the face of the area needed just a touch, but nobody reacted quick enough.

However, the Magpies finally broke the deadlock on the 40-minute mark. Richard Lewis'  chip shot was parried by Kyle Stewart, only for Mathew Fisher to score with a simple close-range finish.

Ten minutes after the break  the Magpies doubled the lead, as the visitors struggled to clear their lines at a corner and local undertaker Euros Griffiths buried his volley into the top corner.

Minutes later  Fisher struck a direct free kick high and wide as the Magpies continued to control matters.

Then the visitors’ best player on the night Sean Pemberton saw red for blocking a midfield ball with his hand, but the centre back looked as if he was trying to protect his face. This set-back just about summed up a miserable night for The Bluebirds and they could have few complaints about this disappointing defeat.
