Marcus Griffiths netted a crucial brace to help Haverfordwest County to an excellent victory at STM Sports as the visitors move two points clear at the top of the table.

Alongside Griffiths’ double there was a goal for assistant/coach Tim Hicks who scored for his third match in a row and this result extends The Bluebirds unbeaten run to an impressive eight games.

Wayne Jones’ high-flying Bluebirds led 1-0 at the interval and they continued in the same vein in the second period, notching two further goals to secure three precious points on the road.

The Bluebirds dominated proceedings and the whole team put in an impressive shift and wing back Miles John was awarded the man of the match against his hometown club. Goalkeeper Kellan Absalom dealt with crosses and his kicking out of hand distribution was first class.

Griffiths opened the scoring in the 39th minute, skipper Sean Pemberton got on the end of a free kick in the box which fell kindly to Griffiths who struck from close range.

In the second period the visitors continued to press and doubled the lead on 58 minutes as Watts won possession in midfield spread it left to Harri Rowe whose cross was met by Hicks who showed excellent composure to fire the ball into the back of the net.

That goal knocked the stuffing out of the home oufit. Jake Merry replaced the lively Ben Fawcett on the hour mark.

On 72 minutes the visitors scored a crucial third. Again, the ball was won in midfield and John’s inviting cross was met by on fire Griffiths who made no mistake with a clinical near post finish.

The visitors made two further late substitutions as Jack Wilson replaced goal scorer Hicks and Corey Saunders came on for the hard-working Jack Britton.

On Friday, 31st January, Haverfordwest County entertain fellow promotion and title chasers Swansea University at the Bridge Meadow and kick off is at 7.30pm.
