Angharad James signs for Reading

Local footballer and Welsh international midfielder Angharad James has signed a two-year contract with the Reading FC.

James, who has 74 Welsh caps to her name, has spent the last two seasons with Everton FC, but has decided to try her luck at one of the top Women sides in the country.

On joining up with the Reading, Angharad said: ‘As soon as I got the call from Reading it was massive for me. I enjoyed my time at Everton, but this is a new fresh challenge, and I think I’m ready for it. The move will hopefully take my game to the next level. Great things never came from comfort zones, so I can’t wait to get started!

“Reading are capable of competing with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City, and winning trophies also, and I hope I can be part of something exciting here. They have got loads of strength in depth within the squad, and the club is full of international players.

“I know that I will have to play consistently to a high standard, and that is what is driving me on. I’ve heard great things about the manager Kelly Chambers and the coaching staff at Reading from people within the game, and this hugely influenced my decision to move down south. Hopefully, I can become a better player with their help.”

This season Angharad is hoping to add to her tally of international caps, but her dream is to be selected for the Great Britain Olympic squad to be held in Japan next year.
