There was a moving commemoration moment at Imble Lane cricket ground when family, players and friends were in attendance to unveil an engraved seat right outside the scorebox where Helen Griffiths spent a lot of time in over a decade as scorer for Pembroke Dock Cricket Club.
 
Helen started scoring at the club when her husband Glyn and son Scott started playing there and scored for the first team, based on the experience she had gained for five years before that when they were playing at St Ishmaels.
 
Helen scored for the second team at Tish when they needed a scorer and was encouraged to get involved by her old friend Wendy Bradshaw, who showed Helen the ropes.
 

Tributes paid by Nick and Nicola

 
Described by Nick Daley, who spoke on behalf of The Dock players, as ‘a lovely lady’, he also spoke of how well Helen fitted in when she arrived and quickly earned the affection of all of them.
 
Nicola Murray told us that when she took over the reins with the firsts Helen was delighted to score for the second XI.

“She helped me a lot and was brilliant with the seconds whom she used to call ‘her boys’.”



 

Lovely message engraved on the seat

 
Scott is now the first team skipper and it was appropriate that he and dad Glyn should be joined by his sister Katie to mark the occasion.
 
They sat on the seat, which has a plaque engraved with the special message,
“In loving memory of Helen Griffiths
Our wonderful Scorer and Friend
You’ll never walk alone
#upthedock!”


 

Special tribute too at Marble Hall Football Ground

 
There was another tribute in memory of Helen at Marble Hall, the home of Milford United AFC, where Scott is also captain there of the first team.

The Robins ground has undergone a tremendous face lift, with terrific additional facilities like special junior pitches alongside a revamp of the clubhouse and changing rooms.
 
Adorning the roof of the changing rooms is a large sign welcoming players to Milford United Football Club and the Griffiths family paid for it.

“We just wanted to commemorate Helen’s name at somewhere else she loved going to watch Scot play,” Glyn told us, “and it is a fitting tribute to a special person.”
