Senior Cup – Semi Final
Hakin beat derby rivals
Herbie to reach final
Hakin United 2 – Herbrandston 0
HAKIN United scored two second half goals to overcome close neighbours Herbrandston and reach the final.
Goals by Michael Cooper and substitute Jamie Davies secured a place in the final where the hot favourites Hakin United will come up against Haverfordwest County next month.
The Vikings shaded the first period but they could not find a way past the outstanding Herbie goalkeeper Martin Langdon.
Langdon pulled off a stunning save, diving at full stretch to his right to deny Nicky Woodrow from opening the scoring with a fierce 25-yard left-foot drive.
Shortly after the break and Langdon blocked Woodrow’s close range effort and in the same move defender Leigh Galdo courageously put his body in the way to prevent Paul Jones’ goalbound volley.
The Vikings took the lead in the 53rd minute when Michael Cooper met James Stanmore’s corner, and the ball flew in off the underside of the bar.
Referee Adrian Wilson awarded the Vikings a penalty when he spotted a deliberate handball by Adrian Rees in the area. Ashley Bevan stepped up but he embarrassingly pushed the ball well wide of Langdon's right hand post.
But two minutes from full time, and Jamie Davies added a second, the right side midfielder striking a low drive that beat Langdon at his near post and sealed victory.

Senior Cup Semi Final
Bluebirds knock out
cup holders Goodwick United
Haverfordwest County 2 –
Goodwick United 0
Haverfordwest County put up an impressive display to knock out the cup holders Goodwick United at the New Bridge Meadow on Tuesday night.
A goal in each half by Craig George and Luke Robinson sealed the Bluebirds’ fate.
Going into this cup clash Goodwick United had already beaten Haverfordwest County both home and away in the league. But the Bluebirds who lost last year against Merlins Bridge in the semi final, rectified matters when they deservedly knocked out the shell-shocked Goodwick United.
Early on Nigel Delaney fired a direct free kick from just outside the 18 yard box inches past James Manson’s left hand post.
But it was the Bluebirds who opened the scoring in the 12th minute. Craig George’s wicked direct free kick evaded everyone in the box and flew in the back of the net.
Nine minutes before the interval and the cup holders piled on the pressure as Kieran O’Brien’s acrobatic overhead kick struck the bar from a good delivery at a corner. Striker Steve Evans over stretched and put a volley inches wide. James Dean also headed harmlessly wide at a corner.
Shortly after half time and United goalkeeper Carl Woodhouse pulled off an outstanding save at full stretch to deny Luke Robinson from adding a second goal.
Karl Hedley struck a low drive just wide of the target as Goodwick worked tirelessly to get back on level terms.
Five minutes from the final whistle and Robinson had a shot blocked by Woodhouse but the lively striker buried the rebound with his second attempt and put the cup-tie beyond doubt.
Haverfordwest County: James Manson; Gethin Roberts; Scott Jones; Dave Rees; Morgan Whittaker; Dai Davies; Matthew Ellis; Ricky Watts; Luke Robinson; Harry Allen; Craig George. Substitutes: Jonathan Bennett; Brett Evans; Eddie Wiggins.

Division One
No change at top of table with poor Pennar Robins crashing out of cup
There is no change at the top of the Manderwood Pembrokeshire Football League Division One table after Saturday’s results.
Still in pole position is Goodwick United who narrowly overcame Clarbeston Road 1-0 at Phoenix Park. The only goal of the game came in the second half when Tom Jones scored a header to secure the points.
Hakin United are only a point behind the leaders and they won 4-3 at home against Johnston despite trailing 2-0 at half time. Martyn Tweedie and Ben Phillips scored for the Tigers - but the Vikings fought back with goals from Ashely Bevan, Nicky Woodrow and a brace from Paul Jones and complete a remarkable comeback. Adam Hawkins pulled a goal back for the visitors but the Vikings nervously held out to claim their 14th win of the season.
Tenby remain third after winning 2-0 against Narberth at Jesse Road. Jordan Richards and an own goal settled this affair against the hosts who are sitting fourth from bottom.
Merlins Bridge in fourth defeated fifth placed close neighbours Haverfordwest County 4-2 at the Bridge Meadow. Dai Davies and Luke Robinson gave the Bluebirds a slender 2-1 cushion at the break, but two penalties from Simon Gilderdale and goals by Jay Brockway and Joe John secured derby bragging rites.
In the clash of the bottom two it finished with rock -bottom Kilgetty picking up their first win of the season over Herbrandston. A brace from Dave Jones and an Anthony Lewis strike finished off the visitors who could only muster a solitary goal from Ashton Plunkett.
Solva lost 2-1 at home to Hundleton, Marc Edwards and Duncan Miller netted for the visitors despite Ben Jones finding the back of the net for homesters.
Pennar Robins’ dreams of reaching the final of the West Wales Intermediate Cup were ended by Swansea League Brunswick United who won 4-0 at Bush Camp and moved impressively into the semis.

All square in top of table battle
Goodwick United 1 - Hakin United 1
Honours ended even in the top of the table clash at Phoenix Park as a Karl Hedley goal put Goodwick in front at the interval and Paul Jones touched home the Vikings’ equaliser in the second period.
It was, as expected, a full-blooded affair but a great advert for local football it was NOT because foul and abusive language marred a contest witnessed by plenty of young boys and girls who could hear the course expletives from players and spectators alike. It really has become a sore on football and perhaps those involved, including women, should remember that this is an amateur sport after a week’s work where families should be able to go and enjoy themselves.
The tension was there to see from the outset as both sides took time to settle on a pitch which was a credit to the ground staff at Phoenix Park, with neither side able to keep hold of the ball so that play was confined to midfield, although Tom Jones and Rob Morgan looked sharp for the home side and Hakin had useful performances from Steve Mathias and Ashley Bevan.
Hedley breaks the deadlock
But the deadlock was broken after 34 minutes when Goodwick broke from midfield and Nigel Delaney released Morgan, who found Karl Hedley as the spare man on the right flank and although Adrian Devonald got a touch on Hedley’s shot he couldn’t stop it going into the net and giving Goodwick the lead.
Hakin almost responded soon afterwards as Ashley Bevan popped up on the left and his first- time shot from an acute angle veered inches wide of Carl Woodhouse’s far post. At the other end, Rhys Dalling showed his potential with a left foot shot that also drifted wide, whilst Mike Cooper missed a chance for Hakin as his volley went the wrong side of the Goodwick upright.
Combative second spell
The second half was even more competitive as Devonald saved well from the dangerous Dalling and Paul Jones missed a half chance for the visitors – but ‘Jonah’ finally hauled the Vikings level after a Woodrow throw-in that Mike Cooper drilled the ball into the six yard box for Jones to get the vital touch.
Jones had a similar chance soon afterwards but failed to do anything with it – whilst Dalling and O’Brien had chances to seal a home win before referee Dean Boswell, whose patience by then was sorely tested, brought a disappointing match to an end where Hakin United might feel just a little happier with a point than Goodwick United.
Goodwick United: Carl Woodhouse; Patrick Hughes; Wayne O’Sullivan (Capt); Anthony Couzens; Steve Lewis; Carl Hedley; Tom Jones; Kieran O’Brien; Rob Morgan; Nigel Delaney; Rhys Dalling. Subs: Ryan Thomas; Steve Evans; James Dean.
Hakin United: Adrian Devonald; Matthew Broome; Andrew Kingston; Ewan Findlay (Capt); Lee Marchant; Ashley Bevan; Steve Mathias; James Stanmore; Mike Cooper; Nicky Woodrow; Paul Jones. Subs: Justin Harding; Jamie Davies; Daniel Hart.
Referee: Dean Boswell.

Here's the rest of the Division One action
Neyland will be thrilled that they won 3-2 at Hundleton in a five-goal thriller. Sean Hannon gave the Nomads a one-goal cushion at the break. Hundleton fought back to lead 2-1 with goals scored by Joe Lewis and Mark Edwards. But the Nomads fought back again with a well-taken brace from Paul Hannon secured three precious points.
Haverfordwest County thumped Pennar Robins 4-1 at Bush Camp. Phil Thompson converted an early penalty, but the Bluebirds responded with goals from Luke Robinson (2), Harry Allen and Dave Rees to win and move to third in the table.
Solva gained a comfortable 3-0 win over basement Kilgetty. David Price gave the homesters a one-goal cushion at half time and substitutes Gareth Jones and Richard Edwards added their names to the score sheet and seal three valuable points. Herbrandston versus Clarbeston Road; Narberth versus Merlins Bridge and Tenby versus Johnston all fell victim to the horrendous weather.
Hakin United win top of the table clash with Tenby and Johnston draw with league leaders Goodwick United
Remarkably three out of the five Manderwood Pembrokeshire Football League Division One matches played on Saturday finished in score draws.
Starting at the Observatory where the top of the table clash between Hakin United versus Tenby saw the Vikings come from behind to win 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller.
This result sees Hakin United breathing right down the neck of leaders Goodwick United who could only draw 3-3 with Johnston. The Vikings are only a point behind with two games in hand. Nicky Woodrow (2), Michael Cooper and Jamie Davies netted for the title-seeking Vikings, whilst a brace from Mike Boswell and goal by Mike Brace wasn’t enough for an upset.
Simon Ormond, Scott Murray and Damien Ellis all got on the score sheet for Johnston and Tom Jones, Nigel Delaney and Wayne O’Sullivan scored for Goodwick, who dropped valuable points at Glebelands.
Herbrandston remain second from bottom in the table after losing 2-1 at home against Pennar Robins. Marc Gelona gave the homesters an early lead but goals from Dai Patterson and a late Jake Sullivan strike bagged the points for the visitors.
Merlins Bridge drew 3-3 with Neyland and there chances of retaining the title are now remote. Jay Brockway, Simon Gilderdale (penalty) and Joe John netted for the homesters, whilst Sean Hannon, brother Paul Hannon and Nathan Warlow scored the goals for the visitors, who were delighted to pick-up a point at the Racecourse.
Haverfordwest County versus Clarbeston Road and Kilgetty versus Narberth were both called off due to waterlogged pitches.

International Friendly Football:
Scottish Ladies win at Bridge Meadow
Wales Ladies 2 - Scotland Ladies 4
Scotland Ladies came from behind to win this international ladies match at the Bridge Meadow Stadium against a Wales’ outfit which never gave up battling but lacked the overall experience of their Scottish counterparts on an excellent playing surface at the Bridge Meadow Stadium.
But Wales had the outstanding performer of the day in Gwennan Harries, who not only chased everything up front and acted a very good line leader but scored the first goal of an entertaining tussle where there was total commitment but no yellow or red cards as referee Dean John controlled the match well. Harries struck after 21 minutes when she fired a low left foot shot past Gemma Fay, the Scottish skipper, to find the net.
But Scotland led 2-1 at the interval as their midfield started to play well and they equalised with a goal from Jane Ross after some poor defensive work by the Welsh back four – and added their second a minute before the interval when Hayley Lauder gave Welsh keeper Rhian Nokes, who was celebrating her 22nd birthday, no chance from close range.
Lander levels for Wales
Wales made a bright start to the second period and Helen Lander went close with a far-post header and Jessica Fishlock had a shot saved by Fay, who also pulled off a stunning save from a brilliantly-taken free kick by Harries which deserved a goal. Wales finally got their reward, however, when a goalkeeping error by Fay allowed Helen Lander to find the net.
Unfortunately, Wales custodian Jones made a similar error almost from the kick-off and Megan Sneddon put Scotland back in front.
The Scots made sure of victory when an excellent ball from Ifeoma Dieke beat the Welsh back four and Joanne Love raced through to put in an inch-perfect lob that Wales skipper Emma Jones only just failed to stop going in the net.
It left Scotland as winners but Wales might just have deserved a draw – but were unable to take their chances as the Scots did!

Robbo four-goal salvo earns Bluebirds semi-final spot
The Manderwood Pembrokeshire Football League programme was severely disrupted by widespread frost in the county.
There were only six games played in total. Pembrokeshiresport.co.uk takes a look at the Senior Cup quarter final where Haverfordwest County overcame Monkton Swifts 5-3 in a thrilling cup-tie played at the New Bridge Meadow Stadium.
The Bluebirds’ cup hero was Luke Robinson who scored four of his sides five goals, and ensured they reached the last four of the competition. The home outfit led 3-1 at the interval. Robson scored from a tight angle for the opener. Michael Canton equalised when he pounced on James Manson’s goalkeeping error. Robson regained his side’s lead when Swifts’ goalkeeper Lance Creese gifted the striker an easy goal-scoring opportunity. And shortly before the break Eddie Wiggins scored from inside the box.Robson added the fourth with his head shortly after the break and then added the fifth as he ghosted in at the far post. The Swifts mounted a late spirited fight back where Canton added his second of the tie, and Lee Brockway rifled a shot home, but it was a classic case of too little, too late for the visitors.
There were only two games played in Division One. Neyland defeated Clarbeston Road 1-0 at home. Aaron McQuillan scored the only goal of the clash in the 75th minute. At Bush Camp it finished goalless between Pennar Robins and Johnston, with both teams happy to pick-up a point apiece.

Over 45s Football:
County vets win well at Glebelands
Pembrokeshire Over 45s 3 - Cardiff Academicals over 45s 0
Venue: Glebelands, Johnston.
Pembrokeshire Over 45s played host to their counterparts from Cardiff Academicals and showed their strength in depth as they scored three excellent goals and kept a clean score-sheet as Steve James and his back four were rarely stretched to full capacity.
The win was all the more praiseworthy since the county vets were without key players like Mickie Ellis, Gary Stephens, John Ryan and coach Bob Nelson, but there is a great experience through the core of the team, with high skill levels and a fitness that belies their age!
Midfield superiority
The key to their success in this match started with the midfield, where the classy Paul Mansbridge and Gerald Hicks were joined by the super-fit Jeremy Morris and Alan Davies, who still plays for Goodwick United and was making his debut at this age group. They made sure that Pembrokeshire had the lion’s share of possession and as a result front men Russell Murray and especially Bernard Armstrong posed a constant threat. It was Armstrong who opened the county’s account in the first half when super-sub Micky Algieri, playing on his home ground, played the ball forward to Gerald Hicks and the Carew mainstay put in a telling cross from the right flank which allowed the ubiquitous Armstrong to get in front of his marker and head home with real power that brought back memories of his glory days!
Murray hit the woodwork after a neat one-two with Armstrong, who was only just off target with a shot, as was Morris from a pile-driver which flew over the bar after an Armstrong back-header.
Strong at the back
Whenever the Academicals tried to counter-attack they found the home back four of Brian Broome, Bobby Bevan, Glyn Ruloff and Dave Rooney in uncompromising mood, with Kilgetty manager Bevan strong in the air and Ruloff showing his ability to cut out danger at its source. As a result, keeper Steve James had a relatively quiet match, although he dealt with anything that came his way with his usual panache. At the other end, the Academicals’ keeper was often under pressure and in the second half he was forced to pick the ball out of his net on two occasions. Both came from powerful shots by Jeremy Morris, who first rifled home a shot from outside the area and into the top corner, the second finding the bottom corner as the visiting defence backed off and paid the inevitable price.
These two strong strikes meant that the County Over 45s were worthy winners and they eagerly anticipate their forthcoming matches with such a strong squad available.
The match was played at Glebelands, courtesy of Johnston AFC, with a post match meal supplied by Angie and Pete at the Railway Inn.

County vets repeat success in Cardiff
Cardiff Academicals 0 - Pembrokeshire Over 45s 3
Venue: University Playing Fields, Llanrumney, Cardiff
Pembrokeshire’s talented over 45 football team completed a rapid-fire double over their counterparts from Cardiff Academicals as they followed victory two weeks before at Johnston with this comfortable win against the same opposition.
Bob scores with his trusty left foot
It was a victory all the more worthwhile since Pembrokeshire were without a few key players from the previous success who were unable to travel, but they welcomed back Gary Stephens, Micky Ellis and Bob Nelson, the founder of the over 45s, who showed that there is still life left in the old dog as he played on the left side of midfield and scored the only goal of the first half as he was perfectly placed at the far post to touch home a Bernie Armstrong header with his trusty left foot.
Whenever the Academicals tried to build periods of pressure they were denied by a solid Pembs back four of Brian Broome, Steve John, Glyn Ruloff and Gary Stephens, who carried his old age pension book with him so that he could buy his pals a drink! Steve James was as solid as ever in goal and midfielders Mick Algieri, a class act if ever there was one, Gerald Hicks, Alan Davies and Nelson made sure that ace front men Bernie Armstrong and Micky Ellis had chances, but neither found the net in that first period.
Still strong in the second half
The second half saw Pembs keep control and they doubled their lead with an excellent goal buy sub Andrew Morris, who hails from Johnston but works in the capital, which came from an inch-perfect Algieri corner that Morris rifled into the top corner of the net.
Bernie Armstrong made sure that the county team were home and dry when he scored with a far post header from Broome’s sweeping cross and although the Academicals tried hard to claw something back they were unable to create many chances on a very heavy pitch – and Pembrokeshire Over 45s were very good value for an excellent victory.
Pembrokeshire Over 45s: Steve James: Brian Broome; Steve John; Glyn Ruloff; Gary Stephens: Micky Algieri; Gerald Hicks; Alan Davies; Bob Nelson: Bernie Armstrong; Micky Ellis. Substitute: Andrew Morris.

Hakin and Herbrandston claim victories and march into Senior Cup semi finals
Hakin United and Herbrandston camps were both feeling over the moon after winning their respective Senior Cup ties and reach the semi final stage.
The Vikings travelled the short journey to Neyland and returned with a comfortable 5-0 victory. Leading the Vikings’ goal rush was Steve Mathias who bagged a brace alongside further goals from Paul Jones, Ashley Bevan and Nicky Woodrow.
Herbrandston gained a hard-fought 3-1 home victory against Johnston. Marc Gelona scored from the penalty spot that gave the home outfit the lead. Steve Mills equalised with a stunning free kick. Herbrandston goalkeeper Martin Langdon pulled off a brilliant save and denied Adam Hawkins that would have given the Tigers’ the lead, but it remained 1-1 at half time. A. J. Galdo scored a fantastic second half brace to clinch the tie and ensured his team’s name is now placed in the hat for the semi final draw.
Haverfordwest County versus Monkton Swifts and holders Goodwick United versus Tenby saw both cup-ties postponed due to frozen pitches and they will now take place next Saturday.
There were two out of three Division One matches played. Narberth gained a welcome 2-1 win over Hundleton.
Craig Manning gave the visitors the lead, but Raff Barnett equalised and the Bluebirds claimed the vital points thanks to Richie Adams scoring in what turned out to be a second half winner.
Goodwick United go four points clear at top of table
There were some interesting results in Saturday’s Manderwood Pembrokeshire Football League Division One encounters.
Goodwick United have opened up a four-point gap at the top of the table. The league leaders drew 1-1 at home with last season’s champions Merlins Bridge. Joe John gave the visitors the lead – but two minutes from full time and Rhys Dalling equalised - and how important will that goal be come the end of the season?
Second placed Tenby suffered a 3-1 home defeat at the hands of title-seeking Hakin United. Paul Jones marked his return to action to give the Vikings the lead. Jordan Richards scored to square matters, but second half goals from Nicky Woodrow and substitute Justin Harding ensured that they claimed the precious points. Hakin United are in fourth, six points behind the leaders, and they have three games in hand.
Third placed Haverfordwest County suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat at Johnston. Lee Walters gave the Tigers a one-goal cushion at half time. Ten minutes after the interval and Jonathan Bennett equalised, but Steve Allen had the final say with superb 35-yard wonder strike that stemmed from a direct free-kick to seal the points.
Clarbeston Road won for the second game on the trot, they travelled to Hundleton and came away with an impressive 5-2 victory. Kristian Palmer (2), Richard Bevan, Emyr Griffiths and Rhys Jones bagged the goals for the triumphant visitors. Hundleton’s goal scorers were Marc Edwards and Craig Manning.
Nathan Warlow netted the only goal scored at the Athletic Ground, where Neyland narrowly overcame rock bottom Kilgetty.
Solva came from a two-goal deficit to defeat Narberth 3-2 at Maes-y-mor. Richie Adams and Tony Evans scored for the visitors, whilst Gareth Thomas (2) and Ben Jones bagged the winning goals for delighted Solva, who picked up only their fourth win of the season.
Herbrandston versus Pennar Robins was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.
Next week is the Senior Cup quarter-final ties that Pembrokeshiresport.co.uk will cover (watch this space) these mouth-watering ties in the top local team’s quest to reach the final scheduled for the Bridge Meadow in April.

Magnificent sum raised in Nic’s memory
The festive season football match between Kilgetty and Tenby to raise funds for the Cleddau Warriors Disability Football Club, in memory of Nic Webster-Smith was a great success and the superb sum of £360 was raised.

Goodwick stay top as Tenby, Hakin, Haverfordwest and Neyland all seal impressive away wins
Goodwick United stay three points clear at the top of Division One after narrowly defeating Hundleton 2-1 at Phoenix Park.
The visitors took the lead through an early Craig Manning strike but Rhys Dalling grabbed a goal in each half with his head to secure three precious points for the home team.
Second placed Tenby are hot on the league leaders’ heels, as they bagged an impressive 1-5 win at Herbrandston, this heavy defeat sees the home outfit drop down to second from bottom. Jordan Richards, Declan Carroll, Kyran Lewis, Gareth Lewis and Daryl Mansbridge netted for the triumphant visitors, whilst Ashton Plunkett scored a consolation effort.
Hakin United maintained their push for the title with an emphatic 1-8 victory at rock bottom Kilgetty. Paul Jones missed the game due to being ill with the flu, but strikers Nicky Woodrow and Justin ‘Skinny’ Harding took their opportunity as they bagged a hat-trick apiece with James Stanmore and Jamie Davies also scoring for the red-hot Vikings. Jack Bevan gave the hosts the lead with an early header – but that’s as good as it got for the hosts who look destined for Second division football next season.
Clarbeston Road gained an emphatic 5-1 home victory to give them the double over Johnston. James Williams scored a brace alongside other goals from Mikey Loveridge, Duncan Hart and a late header from Richard Bevan. Martin Tweedie scored the visitors' solitary goal on a day where the Tigers were really tamed!
In the top clash of the day – Haverfordwest caused an upset by winning 3-1 at the Racecourse against the champions Merlins Bridge. Bluebirds’ striker Harry Allen did the damage by scoring a fantastic hat-trick and this result has damaged the Wizards’ chances of retaining the title.
Neyland gained a hard fought 2-1 victory at Jesse Road to move up the table to sixth. Morgan Preece gave Narberth the lead but Andrew Smith equalised and defender Sean Hannon scored a late winner to steal the points.
In the West Wales Intermediate Cup Pennar Robins gained a superb 3-1 win at Neath League outfit Caewern. Veteran striker Dean Driscoll bagged a hat-trick to ensure the Robins reach the last 16, and they are the only team from Pembrokeshire left in the competition. In round four Pennar Robins have a mouth-watering home tie against Lonlas, , which takes place on Saturday, 5th February and they must fancy their chances of reaching the quarter final. However, Solva lost 3-1 at Giants Grave with David Price scoring the visitors only goal in vain.

Richard Hughes returns to Old Gold
Solid defender Richard Hughes is back with Carmarthen Town after breaking his ankle at the end of last season.
The 24-year-old right back started his career with West Wales rivals Haverfordwest County, and has made 76 Welsh Premier appearances in Old Gold.
After signing for Carmarthen in the summer of 2007, he left at the end of 2008/9 for local Pembrokeshire League outfit Pennar Robins, where he has been returning to fitness this season since his unfortunate injury.
His return gives manager Tomi Morgan an additional defensive option as Town fight for a place in the top six before the split
Mark Falzon to speak at Referees’ meeting
The Chevron and Eddie’s Snooker Bar-sponsored Pembrokeshire Referees’ Society will kick off 2011 in style by welcoming guest speaker Mark Falzon to their training evening on Friday 14th January. Falzon, of Prendergast, Haverfordwest, was until recently a National Officer with the Maltese Football Association, which incorporated a remit to work with elite referees.
Mark is well renowned in the Pembrokeshire area, where he played for local teams such as Johnston, Camrose, Prendergast Villa and Haverfordwest Cricket Club. Falzon is currently involved with Haverfordwest County AFC as the Head of the Youth Academy and Manager of their McWhirter Youth team.
Reading the game
Falzon will be speaking to the Society members on ‘reading the game’, which will incorporate discussion areas on personal fitness and improving the individuals CPD within football. He will be making use of 2010-2011 footage of local referees involved in youth games at the Bridge Meadow, whilst also developing discussion on high profile media debates, such as the Ferguson & Wiley incident of 2009.
An open invitation is always extended to such events from the Society officers and members, which will kick off at 7.15pm at the Neyland Athletic Club, immediately following the Society’s monthly meeting (6.30pm). Tenby and Kilgetty players who played in the second Nic Webster-Smith Memorial match.
Nic Webster-Smith Memorial Match 2010
On Wednesday December 29th the second Nic Webster-Smith Memorial match was played between Tenby and Kilgetty. Due to the adverse weather conditions, this year’s game was played on the Astroturf pitch at Greenhill School and resulted in both teams being able to play some good passing football. Both sides were again made up of former friends and team mates of Nick’s, and the eventual winners of the Memorial Shield donated by Scaffold 2000 were Tenby AFC.
Good cause helped
This year, Nic’s family requested that any money raised on the day should go towards the Cleddau Warriors Disability Football Club. The club are now in their fourth season of football, and provide opportunities for both children and adults to learn the skills of the game whilst having lots of fun in the process. The club has over 30 members and take part in Disability football events all over the country. This is a fitting local charity as Nick spent time during his work placement in Year 12 at Brentford Football Club coaching disabled children within the community.
A raffle and donations raised £350 for the club, which Nic’s family, as well as the event organisers, hope will help the Warriors to continue offering such a great experience to all of its members
Grateful thanks
The organisers would like to thank the following for making the day
such a success; Rob Thomas , manager at Tenby Leisure Centre for the free use of the Astroturf, Tenby AFC for their organisation and hospitality, The Normandie Pub, Tenby, for donating and preparing food, Bobby Bevan for refereeing the match, and the following people for their generous donations of raffle prizes:
Nic remembered by old friends
Friends of serviceman Nic Webster-Smith will be remembering him with affection at Christmas on one of his favourite places - the football pitch.
Former classmates from Tenby’s Greenhill School are planning the second sporting get-together on December 29th in memory of the 24-year-old Royal Military Police corporal who was one of five soldiers killed by a rogue Afghan policeman in Helmand Province in November 2009.
This year’s Tenby v Kilgetty match will be played at The Clicketts, Tenby (weather permitting - or at Tenby Astroturf - if the pitches are unplayable). Kick off is at 2pm.
Players will be “paying to play” and there will be a raffle on the day. Prizes include a signed Welsh Football shirt, courtesy of the Welsh FA, a signed Joe Allen Swansea shirt from Swansea FC and other generous prizes donated by local businesses.
All proceeds from the day will go to Cleddau Panthers Disability Football Club. Nic’s parents have chosen this worthy cause because Nic had spent time coaching disabled children while on work placement at Brentford Football club in year 12.
Please go along and support the match – and help such a worthy cause in the process!

Title race hots up with leaders Goodwick and Tenby sealing vital victories
Only two games were played in yesterday’s Manderwood Pembrokeshire Football League Division One, the rest fell victim to freezing conditions.
But the both games that did go ahead had a significant bearing in this season’s intriguing title race.
Goodwick United go three points clear at the top of the table after narrowly overcoming Herbrandston 4-3.
Rhys Dalling marked his debut for Goodwick by scoring a brace for his new club in the first half. The visitors stayed in contention with goals from Ashton Plunkett and Simon Mathias and make it 2-2 at the interval
Matthew Price put the visitors in front by adding his side’s third goal midway through the second half. But the league leaders scored two late penalties both converted by Tom Jones and seal a crucial victory when all looked lost for Bernie Armstrong’s boys.
The only other match of any note took place at the Athletic Ground, where Tenby won 3-2 to move them within three points of leaders Goodwick United, but they do have a game in hand.
Mikey Beynon, Gareth Warlow and Daryl Mansbridge bagged goals for Mikey Lewis’ Tenby outfit in the first half. The second half belonged to Neyland where Wayne Parry and Paul Hannon pulled goals back – but they fell one goal short for what would have been a truly dramatic comeback.
In the West Wales Intermediate Cup Johnston switched from the Glebelands Ground to Hillcroft for their third round tie with Neath Premier Lonlas FC.
Ben Phillips scored early for the homesters, but late goals from Ashley Powell and James Semmems sealed a late win for the visitors who have reached the last 16 of this prestigious cup competition.

West Wales Intermediate Cup - 3rd Round
Johnny’s five-goal delight for Dockers as Vikings cruelly bow out of cup
Hakin United 4 - Swansea Dockers 6
Hakin United disappointingly crashed out of the West Wales Intermediate Cup at home to Senior Swansea League opponents Swansea Dockers.
The classy Dockers outfit currently sit second in the table and have only lost once this season, and they came to the Obs brimming with confidence.
Former Swansea City star Johnny Keavney incredibly scored five goals for the visitors, who must now fancy their chances of going all the way in this prestigious competition.
Yet the Vikings got off to a flyer and found themselves two goals in front with barely ten minutes on the clock. Nicky Woodrow struck in the third minute and Steve Mathias unleashed a low drive from the edge of the area.
The home side’s goalkeeper Adrian Devonald fumbled a high ball inside the box and that mistake gifted a goal for Phillip Russell. But two minutes later and the Vikings added a third, Paul Jones ghosted past a defender and unselfishly squared a ball to Jamie Davies to finish with a simple far-post tap-in.
Keavney runs riot
Just before half time and Keavney struck with precision to put the Dockers right back in this absorbing cup-tie.
Barely 20 seconds after the restart and Keavney struck an equaliser. That goal inspired the Dockers and the Vikings struggled to cope with their fast fluid counter- attacking style. Slack marking saw Keavney complete his hat-trick, and then he unleashed an unstoppable right-foot drive that flew in the top right hand corner for the best goal of the tie. With their tails up, Keavney scored the sixth of the tussle ten minutes from full time and although Ashley Bevan’s deflected effort gave the Vikings a glimmer of hope – the Dockers shut up shop and deservedly progress to the last 16.
Prior to kick-off Hakin United players, officials and supporters stood and applauded for a minute in memory of the late Joe Lennon.
Hakin United: Adrian Devonald; Ewan Finlay; Leigh Marchant; Matthew Broome; Andrew Kingston; James Stanmore; Ashley Bevan; Steve Mathias; Nicky Woodrow; Paul Jones; Jamie Davies. Substitutes: Ryan Wilson, Scott Davies; Daniel Hart.
Swansea Dockers: Brian Sparks; Chris Maunder; Luke James; Daniel Boat; Phillip Russell; Steve Hughes; Kyle Morgan; Raymond Alli; Andrew Bonomi; Johnny Keavney; Craig Green. Substitutes: Nicky Walters; Daniel Major; Mark Morgan.

Division One:
Bernie’s boys go top
Goodwick United 5 - Kilgetty 0
Goodwick United gained their expected win over basement side Kilgetty and jumped three places to the top of the table as their reward, with Phoenix Park in superb condition considering the weather.
Kilgetty were left to concede their 13th defeat alongside a solitary draw from their 14 matches played but Bobby Bevan’s boys deserve credit because they battled all the way after arriving with a bare 11 players. Anthony Lewis had a shot saved by Karl Woodhouse and Rhys Hewson’s drive from the last kick of the first half rattled the crossbar, such was its ferocity.
Goodwick were eager to play good football from the outset as Anthony Couzens and skipper Wayne O’Sullivan looked very settled pairing at the heart of their defence so that Steve Lewis and Darren Devonald were able to push forward and try to get behind the Kilgetty defence in which Grant Watkins, Mike Scale and Paul Thomas worked hard. If there was a criticism of Bernie Armstrong’s team it was perhaps that they were trying to walk the ball into the net but they finally opened their account after a James Dean header was superbly saved by young Sam Franklyn in the Kilgetty goal – but from the ensuing corner O’Sullivan’s left-foot volley flew into the left corner.
Chances galore for Goodwick
Steve Evans had a low shot saved and Tom Jones was just wide before Kieran O’Brien’s spectacular goal from a diving header to meet a splendid Johnny Horgan cross, doubled Goodwick’s lead.
Goodwick made it 3-0 after 42 minutes when Kieran O’Brien headed his second goal and although Goodwick must have been satisfied to lead 3-0 at the break they might have had a few more.
The second half followed a similar pattern as Kilgetty fought bravely but tired as Goodwick threw players forward in search of goals. Tom Jones netted after good work on the right by sub Karl Hedley, and Ryan Thomas rounded off the Goodwick scoring as heavy rain returned and the light worsened. A word too for referee Roy Boswell, who really applied common sense to his control of the game, which was played in excellent spirit, and was enjoyed by the hardy souls who turned out to watch.
Prior to the match there was a minute's silence for the late Eifion John, the former Goodwick United player and administrator who also served the Pembrokeshire League so well.
Goodwick players also wore pre-match tee-shirts with pictures of Danny Williams, their popular player who was seriously hurt last weekend in a car accident, on the front and his name and team number on the back.
Goodwick United: Carl Woodhouse: Darren Devonald, Wayne O’Sullivan, Anthony Couzens; Steve Lewis: Kieran O’Brien; Ryan Thomas; Tom Jones; Johnny Horgan; James Dean: Steve Evans. Subs (all used): Dominic Sinnott; Carl Lewis; Karl Headley.
Kilgetty: Sam Franklyn: Phil Thomas; Kurt Smith; Grant Watkins; Mike Scale; Josh Bevan; Rhys Hewson; Ryan Howells; Richard Gwyther; Matthew Hancock, Anthony Lewis.
Referee: Roy Boswell.

Bernie’s Boys snatch the spoils
Haverfordwest County 1 -
Goodwick United 3
Goodwick United maintained their recent good run of form as they travelled to Haverfordwest County in an entertaining top-four clash that was well refereed by Kevin Milich, and came away with a victory that saw them move to within two points of their opponents but with two matches in hand.
The Bluebirds were left to reflect on the fact that they failed to take their chances, especially in a one-sided first quarter where they had five or six opportunities but missed them all.
Haverfordwest County should have already been at least three goals clear after only ten minutes but a mixture of wrong options, weak shooting and good goalkeeping by Carl Woodhouse meant that the scoresheet stayed blank in that one-sided period.
Eddie Wiggins fired over from inside the box, Craig George raced through on the right but fired weakly at the advancing Woodhouse, George also set up chances for Dorian Davies and Luke Robinson, who missed the easiest chance of all. A superb diagonal pass by Dai Davies set up another missed chance for George and Kristian Griffiths fired over the bar when he moved up for a free-kick.
But Goodwick managed to seal off the space on the right and with Ryan Thomas, James Dean and Tom Jones coming more and more into the game they had chances as Horgan had a shot saved and a James Dean header floated wide of the far post. They were awarded successive corners on the right and from the second, sent in by Horgan, it was Kieran O’Brien who popped up to score past James Manson in a packed goalmouth.
And that is the way the score stayed until early in the second half, when Haverfordwest netted from almost identical circumstances as Matthew Ellis sent in a cross and Kristian Griffiths toe-poked the ball past Woodhouse from close range.
At this stage it was anybody’s game, with both sides eagerly looking to gain the upper hand. Eventually it proved to be Goodwick who made the vital break-through in the 74th minute when the ball was pushed forward by Anthony Couzens and it broke to the left where dynamic midfielder Ryan Thomas was beautifully placed to supply the scoring pass for Dean to coolly slot the ball home.
Haverfordwest were still in contention as they pushed players forward but with eight minutes left Goodwick grabbed a third goal when the ball was deflected in the goalmouth to Horgan, whose right foot shot from eight yards made the game safe for Goodwick United and brought a smile to happy manager Bernie Armstrong because he knew that his players had battled so hard to seal their success!
Haverfordwest County: James Manson: Dorian Davies; Kristian Griffiths; Dai Rees; Morgan Whittaker; Craig George; Dai Davies; Ricky Watts; Matthew Ellis: Eddie Wiggins; Luke Robinson. Subs: Gareth Elliott; Jonathan Bennett; Brett Evans.
Goodwick United: Carl Woodhouse: Wayne O’Sullivan; Anthony Couzens; Steve Lewis; Kieran O’Brien; Ryan Thomas; James Dean; Tom Jones; Johnny Horgan; Steve Evans; Dan Williams. Subs: Carl Hadley, Carl Lewis; Darren Devonald.
Referee: Kevin Milich.
Parry peps Nomads in second half
Solva 1 - Neyland 3
Neyland secured a deserved victory at Maes y Mor as they fought back from a 1-0 interval deficit and scored three second-half goals to secure the three points.
Playing with the slope in their favour, Solva had slightly the better of the first half and took the lead with a good goal from Roscoe Young midway through the period.
But Neyland took good advantage of the elements in the second half and ace goal grabber Paul Hannon pulled them level before Wayne Parry gave them the lead with a well-placed shot.
Parry then made the game safe for the Nomads after 75 minutes as his header found the net and moved his side into the top six in the section table.
Wayne Parry (left) scored twice in Neyland's excellent away win at Solva.
Gelona stars in Herbie win
Herbrandston 2 - Hundleton 0
Mark Gelona was the toast of his Herbrandston colleagues as he scored both goals in their hard-fought win over visiting Hundleton, who had their share of possession but on the day didn’t have anyone with Gelona’s nose for goals.
Small wonder then that Herbie boss Modesto Galdo was pleased because he knows that the return of several key players has been a real boost:
“We are beginning to play well for each other and I am pleased with the way that my defence dealt with the considerable strike power of Mark Powell’s side.”
This win, only their third of the campaign, moved Herbie out of the bottom two and level with Solva, whilst Hundleton stay in eighth place but disappointed with this eighth defeat from 14 starts.
Mark Gelona's (left) two first half goals ensured an important win for Herbrandston over Hundleton.

Referees’ Officer John Gow (front left) presents Phil Gale with his long service achievement award, in the company of WWFA instructor Phil Davies (far right) and Pembrokeshire Referee’s Society Officers, Danny Thomas (President) front right, Chris Stapleton (Chairman), back left, Jonathan Twigg (Vice Chairman) back 2nd left, and David Badger (Secretary) back 2nd right.
Phil Gale is honoured by his refereeing colleagues
The Chevron and Eddies Snooker Bar-sponsored Pembrokeshire Referees’ Society hosted the WWFA annual seminar after their last monthly meeting, when thirty seven officials from the County welcomed Hon. Referees Officer John Gow and guest instructor Phil Davies of Carmarthenshire, a former Hakin United goalkeeper.
Prior to the seminar starting, Gow was able to present an award to local whistler Phil Gale of Letterston, who has completed twenty-one years service as a referee. Phil is a man who has carved himself a niche within sporting circles, not only in Pembrokeshire but also across the Welsh League, Gale has a calm, measured and respectful approach to officiating and this has allowed him to referee 560 games in a career which started with his first fixture in February 1990 between Haverfordwest and Letterston seconds.
Long playing career
Phil started playing football in 1965 for Hakin Juniors, Milford Sea Cadets and Letterston before joining the Police Force and being posted to Llanelli in 1969. There he signed on for Garden Suburbs, Burry Port, for three years before playing for Kilgetty as he was posted to Tenby.
In 1976, he signed on for Solva for one season following a positing to St. David’s before being promoted to the Police Training Centre in Cwmbran, playing for GWR Griffithstown in Pontypool. On returning to Haverfordwest in 1979 he returned to Solva and stayed with them for four seasons. Work then took him to Milford, where he donned the colours of Milford Athletic until he hung up his playing boots in 1987.
Refereeinging memories
He told PembrokeshireSport.co.uk,
“The highlight of my career as a referee was the Senior Cup Final in 1996 when Merlins Bridge beat Goodwick 3-0 on the Bridge Meadow. Another highlight was the deciding match between Hakin and Pennar Robins at the ‘Obs’ in 1997, when Hakin were crowned First Division champions, for a record seven consecutive seasons.”
Phil further explained that,
“I passed my 60th birthday this year, but I continue to enjoy refereeing and intend to keep whistling until the enjoyment disappears. The only unfortunate part is that a lot of the players today are the sons of players I played either with or against which shows my age!”
Colleagues congratulate Phil
Society Vice Chairman Jonathan Twigg congratulated him on his achievement, pointing out Phil had always been a staunch member of the Society since he took up the whistle. Her described him as a man who has the battle scars from playing who brought many assets to the Society including vast experience, which has helped ensure he is one of our most appreciated and courteous members, a man who can guide others but is also able and willing to learn from his colleagues.
President Danny Thomas concluded that any up and coming referee in Wales could learn from being in the presence of Phil Gale, not just from his upstanding demeanour off the pitch, but also from his style and commitment on the field.
** The Society’s December meeting will host the 2010 Christmas draw, which kicks off at 7pm on Friday 10th December at Neyland Athletic Club. PAFL Secretary Brian Hawkins is also endeavouring to organise the next referee’s course early in the New Year, where spaces remain available. Brian can be contacted for further information on 01646 698075.

Wizards work their magic to topple
title-seeking Hakin United
Reigning league champions Merlins Bridge picked-up an impressive 4-2 top end of the table victory at Hakin United.
The Vikings took the lead through Nicky Woodrow, but the Wizards levelled matters with a well-taken goal scored by player/boss Matthew Price, and Jay Brockway struck a second to give the visitors a 2-1 cushion at the interval. Brockway added his second goal of the clash five minutes after the break and Matthew D’Ivry added a fourth. Paul Jones pulled a goal back with a header inside the six-yard box, but there was no way back for the Vikings, who suffered only their second defeat of the campaign as they slipped down the table to fourth.
Haverfordwest County stay top on goal-difference with derby rivals Merlins Bridge. The Bluebirds gained an impressive 3-0 win at Hundleton. Luke Robinson, Craig George and Matthew Ellis netted for the triumphant visitors.
Adam Hawkins bagged a well-taken hat-trick for Johnston in their excellent 3-1 home victory over out of sorts Narberth. The only joy for the visitors on a day that they would rather forget was a clinically dispatched penalty from Richie Adams.
Tenby moved up the table to third sport after a hard-fought 1-0 win at bottom of the table Kilgetty. Mickey Boswell scored the solitary goal of this tough clash midway through the first half.
Goodwick United came from behind to snatch a thrilling 5-4 victory at Neyland. Paul Hannon, Joe Charlton Aaron McQuillan and Wayne Parry all scored for the Nomads, whilst Steve Evans (2) Tomos Jones (2 penalties) and Steve Lewis bagged goals to ensure the visitors got their second win on the trot.
Dean Lawrence scored a goal in each half to help Pennar Robins pick-up a slender 2-1 home win over Herbrandston. Adrian Rees scored a late header in reply for the visitors, but it all came to nothing.
There was another high-scoring affair at Solva where Peter Cole’s troops won 6-4 at home against Clarbeston Road. Matt Harries (3), Charlie Syme (2) and Ben Jones bagged the goals for the winning outfit. Richard Bevan (2), Dan Rees (penalty) and Emyr Griffiths scored goals in vain for struggling Clarbeston Road.

Bluebirds bag six against Solva to sail into next round
Haverfordwest County 6 - Solva 1
Haverfordwest County marched into the last eight of the Senior Cup as they proved too strong and experienced for a Solva side which never gave up trying but conceded four goals in the final quarter to create a final scoreline which was slightly flattering to the Bluebirds on the overall patterns of play. The homesters were particularly strong in midfield through Dai Davies, Ricky Watts, Craig George and Matthew Ellis so it was no surprise that they led 2-0 at half time, their first goal coming early on as Luke Robinson flicked in a ball from three yards which gave Chris Jones little chance of keeping it out. But Jones was at fault for the second Bluebirds’ score as he failed to clear a cross from George on the right flank and could only watch it sail into the far corner of his net.To be fair to Solva, they also had their share of chances but James Manson made a couple of saves from Matthew Harries and Dan Williams to deny them – but Solva clawed a goal back early in the second period when Williams put in the cross and Matthew Harries did well to get the vital final touch at the far post. At 2-1 it was anyone’s game but the Bluebirds scored the all-important third goal when Robinson pounced to net his second and from there on his side was well on top so that Matthew Ellis added the fourth home goal to make the game safe. Both teams used all their subs in the heavy conditions and Haverfordwest County showed their strength in depth when they brought on Mike Preddy, Rob Morgan and Andrew John, with Preddy scoring almost straight away and Morgan rounding off the scoring in an entertaining match.
Haverfordwest County: James Mason, Dorian Davies, Dai Rees, Morgan Whittaker, Brett Evans, Craig George, Dai Davies, Ricky Watts, Matthew Ellis, Eddie Wiggins, Luke Robinson. Subs: Rob Morgan, Mike Preddy, Andrew John.
Solva: Chris Davies, Mark Evans, Joe Elliott, Sean Ellison, Ali Davies, Morgan Elliott, Chris Garrett, Dai Price, Luke Jones, Matthew Harries, Dan Williams. Subs: Richard Edwards, Joe Harding.

Senior Cup - Round 2 - Round-up
Cup favourites Merlins Bridge knocked out by late Canton header
Beaten finalists Merlins Bridge on the last two occasions were unceremoniously dumped out of the Senior Cup by a late solitary goal scored by Monkton Swifts’ Michael Canton.

Pembrokeshire A 1 - Swansea B 1
The Pembs boys started off brightly with some good passing football. Cameron Thomas combined well with Henry McBeth, who opened the scoring for the home side and for a time Pembs dominated the game. The Swansea keeper made some very good saves from Max Brindley and Ben Fawcett. Ben Fairbain, Harrison Duckett and Zac Rowell all had good debuts. Nicholas Jones made some superb saves for Pembs to keep the game all square.
Pembrokeshire A 4 - Swansea A 3
This was a thrilling game with Pembs going 2-0 up very quickly through Ben Fairbain and Ben Fawcett. However, sloppy play allowed Swansea to get level before Pallas scored with a fantastic header from a corner. An own goal put Pembs 4-2 ahead but Swansea never gave up with the final score being a close 4-3 win for Pembs.
Pembrokeshire B 1 - Swansea A 0
Pembrokeshire started well and created chance after chance by Danny Llewellyn, Travis O’Connor, Ollie Wheeler and Jack Wilson. This was a very tight game with both sides playing good football. Johnson made some very important saves before Wilson put Pembs one up. West Wales Intermediate Cup – Round 2
Vikings vanquish tired Trostre
Hakin United 5 – Trostre Sports 1
Five second half goals by Hakin United saw them move into the last 16 of the West Wales Intermediate Cup as they overwhelmed a Trostre Sports’ team which had somehow managed a clean sheet in the first period and scored a goal in a rare breakaway.Ceri Thomas scored the Trostre goal but once the Vikings netted through Steve Mathias, who ended a mazy run with a rare left-foot strike, it was only a matter of how many Hakin would score. Paul Jones found the net with a header after several earlier misses, whilst Andrew Kingston powered home a header that would have pleased manager Gary Dawes. James Stanmore also contributed a good goal from a well-directed shot and Nicky Woodrow’s lob found the back of the net with unerring accuracy as Hakin made deserved progress in this tough competition.
Hakin United: Adrian Devonald, Ewan Findlay, Andrew Kingston, Matthew Broome, Leigh Marchant, Michael Cooper, Steve Mathias, Jamie Davies, Ashley Bevan, Nicky Woodrow, Paul Jones. Subs: James Stanmore, Leigh Broome, Ryan Wilson.
Tigers take the honours in Clydach
FC Clydach 1 – Johnston 4
Johnston completed a superb away win against FC Clydach that will undoubtedly have pleased player/manager Russell Murray, who came on for a little cameo with the game won and scored the last goal of the Tigers’ quartet. The Tigers played really well collectively as Jim Payne marshalled his back four well and Damien Ellis and Luke Hayward were always in the game. They took the lead with a great goal by Ryan Doyle and a good strike by Adam Hawkins saw the Tigers lead 2-0 at the interval.Simon Tyrrell managed a solitary goal after half time but there was no denying Johnston as Doyle scored his second and then Murray stepped up to take a free kick which he cleverly manipulated into the net to set the seal on an excellent win as reward for their all-round efforts.
Johnston: Jim Payne, Nigel Davies, Ben Phillips, Sion Price, Mark Jones, Luke Hayward, Scott Murray, Damien Ellis, Steve Allen, Ryan Doyle, Adam Hawkins. Subs: Russell Murray, Liam James.
Pennar pounce for big win
Pennar Robins 4 – Llangyfelach 1
Pennar Robins marched into the next stage of the competition with a win that was all the more praise-worthy since they played for 88 minutes with ten men.The Robins lost Luke Probert soon after the start as he was penalised for a tackle and then was shown the red card when he made his comments to the referee too strongly for the match official! But the Robins were still too strong and they opened the scoring with a goal by Nathan Patterson, although Llangyfelach hit back with a goal by Sean Edwards to make the score 1-1 at the break. The Robins were back in front within 30 seconds of the second half, however, when Dean Driscoll set up the chance for Phil Thompson to score from 20 yards – and with ten minutes to go they made sure of victory when sub Richard Hughes beat the off-side trap to slide the ball home. There was still time for the Robins to add a fourth goal as good work by Dai and Nathan Patterson set up the chance to find the net – and it was small wonder that manager Chrissie Lloyd was so pleased with this very strong performance from the ten-man Robins!
Pennar Robins: Stuart James, Andrew Green, Jon Hyde, Mikey Powell, Luke Probert, Nathan Patterson, Karl John, Dai Patterson, Dean Driscoll, Phil Thompson, Dean Lawrence. Subs: Richard Hughes, Ross Lascelles.
Super Solva stride through
Penllergaer 1 – Solva 4
Solva manager Peter Cole was understandably jubilant as his side made the journey to Penllergaer and returned home with a clear-cut success as reward for a real collective effort from the Solva boys.Chris Davies played really well between the sticks as Solva lead 2-0 at the break and although Penllergaer hit back with a goal by Steve Donald there was never going to be anything other than a Solva win as the outcome as Joe and Morgan Elliott, plus Luke and Ben Jones, played well. David Price grabbed two goals as reward for his non-stop running and other goals came from Ben Jones and Matt Harries so that Solva were able to celebrate a cracking victory!
Solva: Chris Davies, Joe Elliott, Sean Ellison, Aled Harries, Mark Evans, Morgan Elliott, David Price, Luke Jones, Ben Jones, Chris Garrett, Matt Harries. Sub: Scott James.
Gritty Lamphey bow out
Lamphey 1 – Lonlas 4
Lamphey battled hard against visiting Lonlas but the latter’s greater experience told in the final analysis.Lamphey scored a good goal from Danny Nolan but Lonlas replied with goals by Ashley and Liam Powell, Steve Florence and Paul Jenkins to take the verdict – although Lamphey deserved every credit for the way that they played!

Robins comfortably beat league champions Merlins Bridge and Kilgetty pick-up their first point of season
Pennar Robins maintained their impressive form with a superb 3-1 home victory over league champions Merlins Bridge.

It’s raining goals in top-flight of the Pembrokeshire football league
Once again it was raining goals in the Manderwood Pembrokeshire Football league Division One on Saturday.
Incredibly, there were 42 goals scored from seven matches, averaging six goals per game.
In the match of the day between Hakin United versus Goodwick United, it was the home side who won by a convincing 6-1 final score line. Steve Evans gave Goodwick an early lead, but then the Vikings moved-up the gears and totally dominated, with the best predator in the league Paul ‘Jonah’ Jones finding the back of the net on four occasions, recent signing Jamie Davies scored with a left-foot screamer and Michael Cooper also added his name on the Vikings’ impressive score sheet as they close the gap in third, just a point behind leaders Haverfordwest County and second placed Merlins Bridge, with a game in hand.
Leaders Haverfordwest County were just five minutes from a shock defeat at home against Johnston. Luke Hayward gave the Tigers the lead, Luke Robinson equalised, and Bluebirds’ goalkeeper James Manson pulled off a stunning save to deny Tigers’ Lee Walters from winning the game from the penalty spot.
Merlins Bridge clawed their way from behind to secure a precious point at Solva. Gareth Thomas scored a brace alongside a simple tap-in by Richard Edwards as the home side led three-nothing at the break. However, the Wizards worked their magic to come from behind and grabbed goals through Stephen McNabney (2) and a Brett Shakir header to pinch a draw.
Herbrandston easily overcame bottom of the table Kilgetty 5-1. Paul Hodge gave Kilgetty an early lead, scoring with a sublime free-kick. Nathan Banner scored a brace for the hosts alongside other goals scored by Adrian Rees, Craig Nicholson and Marc Gelona.
Hundleton are starting to find life difficult in the top flight as they lost 5-1 at Neyland. Wayne Parry scored a brace alongside goals from Joe Charlton and brothers Paul and Sean Hannon. Rhodri Davies scored a consolation for the well-beaten visitors.
Dean Driscoll scored a hat-trick for Pennar Robins in their 5-2 home win against Clarbeston Road. Jon Hyde scored his first goal for the Robins after his move from Hundleton and former Carmarthen Town Welsh Premier star Richard Hughes also scored for the Robins. David Collis and Danny Lewis bagged goals for the luckless Road.
Tenby won by the biggest margin of the day. The Seasiders won 8-0 against Narberth at the Clicketts. Jordan Richards (4), Mike Boswell, Declan Carroll, Daryl Mansbridge and an audacious Anthony Griffiths lob completed the rout.

Wales’ super kids stun favourites England at New Bridge Meadow
Wales Under 16s 4 – England Under 16s 0
Wales produced a stunning first half display to claim a famous win over Victory Shield favourites England at the New Bridge Meadow tonight.
A big crowd enjoyed watching some of the finest football talent in the country playing at Haverfordwest FC, on an immaculate surface prepared by groundsman Rob Summons and his staff that was televised live on Sky Sports.
Young Lions shell-shocked
England manager Kenny Swain was shell-shocked by the four-goal margin that they trailed at half-time. The Young Lions are going for their tenth straight Victory Shield success, but they suffered a massive set-back at the hands of Osian Roberts’ fired-up Welsh outfit who definitely raised to the big occasion for their first success over England since 1991.
Tom O’Sullivan, on Cardiff City’s books opened the scoring in the sixth minute. Three Lions’ goalkeeper Jack Rose parried a shot only for O’Sullivan to gobble up the rebound, much to the delight of his ecstatic team-mates
England pay the penalty
On 22 minutes Wales were awarded a penalty by referee Brian James, which Declan John coolly dispatched from the spot. Ten minutes later and Wales were awarded a second penalty for shirt-pulling incident in the box. Up stepped John to show maturity beyond his years, again making no mistake to put his team three-goals in front.
Five minutes before the interval and striker Rhys James added a fourth with a wicked dipping 25 yard strike.
The visitors failed miserably to mount a fight-back in the second period, whilst Wales kept their shape and composure to gain a famous win over the old enemy, and Wales' manager Osian Roberts will be delighted that his Young Dragons kept a clean sheet and got the result, which was way beyond his wildest dreams.

Tom Yeoman Under 11’s County Schools Competition 2010-2011:
County Under 11s start Yeoman Cup with a bang!
Pembrokeshire County Schools Under 11’s squads started their Welsh Schools’ campaign with something of a bang by picking up 10 of the 12 points on offer against Afan Nedd Schools.
Played in brilliant sunshine at Camrose FC the new squads combined well, resulting in three wins and a well-deserved draw.
Pembrokeshire A 2 - Afan Nedd 1
Pembrokeshire attacked from the start and went close with shots from Harry Cook and Henry McBeth. At the other end, keeper Nick Jones handled well and the defence of Etan Price, Regan Pallas and Max Brindley thwarted any attack by the opposition. Pembs went ahead through a well struck goal by Alaric Jones before Afan Nedd equalised to make it one all at half time. The second half saw end to end play with Ben Fawcett scoring the winner. Cameron Thomas and Rowan Nicolson battled well and Pembs were just a little too strong for their opposition.
Pembrokeshire A 7 - Afan Nedd B 2
This started off as a scrappy game because too many Pembs players tried to take on too many of the opposition instead of making the ball do the work- so Afan Nedd scored first through determined play and it took a while before Alaric Jones equalised.Jones added another soon after before Afan Nedd scored just before half time. After a good talking to during the break then team started to play football, resulting in a flurry of goals. Brindley scored a splendid hat-trick with McBeth and Fawcett taking the final score to 7-2
Pembrokeshire B 8 - Afan Nedd B 0
This was an exciting game with Pembrokeshire playing some superb football. The goals were scored by Travis O’Connor (3), Daniel Llewellyn (2), Jack Wilson, Daniel Hopkin and Tobias Nash. Morgan Picton kept a clean sheet in goal with Garin Gardner and Elliott Wherrett solid in defence. Jake Houston and Curtis Hicks ran well in midfield as this really was a great team effort.
Pembrokeshire B 2 - Afan Nedd A 2
This was a close run affair. As Pembrokeshire scored first through Jake Houston but Afan Nedd equalised within seconds. In the second half the visitors went 2-1 up but the Pembrokeshire boys battled well resulting in a well deserved goal by Daniel Hopkins in the dying minutes meant that the team pouched a precious point.Pembs Schools’ FA would like to thank:

High-flying Bluebirds and Bridge pick-up high-scoring victories
There were only two matches played in the Manderwood Pembrokeshire Football League Division One on Saturday.
All the rest of the top-flight teams were involved in the first round of the West Wales Intermediate Cup.
Haverfordwest County stay top of the table on goal difference over close neighbours Merlins Bridge, with both high-flying teams achieving high-scoring victories.
Starting at the Racecourse, the Bridge convincingly won 8-0 against Herbrandston, the visitors' manager Steve Batty resigned in midweek and Modesto Galdo has agreed to temporarily take charge.
Joe John led the rout with four goals alongside others from Jay Brockway (2), Brett Shakir and player manager Matthew Price.
At the Bridge Meadow Haverfordwest County comfortably won 5-0 over Hundleton to satisfy canny Bluebirds’ boss Derek Roberts. All the goals were scored in the first period, but Mark Powell’s Hundleton outfit did well not to leak any further goals in the second half. Luke Robinson and Eddie Wiggins grabbed a brace apiece and Dorian Davies nodded in a fifth.

Ray leads fitness-based training for local referees
The Pembrokeshire Referees’ Society moved venue for their September meeting, when they hosted a fitness training session at Haverfordwest Leisure Centre outdoor track. Leading the session, which saw fourteen members in attendance, was Cardiff-based Football Association of Wales Development Officer Ray Ellingham.
Ray was delighted with the turn out for the evening session:
‘I was impressed, especially with the distances referees travelled, from Fishguard, Hundleton and Whitland to be present, and with the level of fitness shown by the referees in the area and the hard work they put in during the session.’
High intensity & high technology
The session started with a low intensity warm up, including stretching, before an innovative period of exercise which replicated the role of an assistant referee and their movements during a match. This developed into a high-intensity sprint session with varying distances and speeds, including sprinting. Ray finished the session using the newest technological aides available to the Football Association of Wales, when referees were timed over a distance of 40 metres through electronic speed gates. A structured warm down was completed before all retired to the warmth of the inside for the Society’s monthly meeting.
Grateful thanks
Jonathan Twigg, on behalf of the Society, thanked Ray for his attendance, highlighting some of his referring achievements since arriving in Wales from Kent in 1992 when he moved to Cardiff with the BBC. Ray was a Welsh Premier League referee for fourteen years, also serving on the FIFA list in 1996/97. He officiated at a Home Nations tournament in 2001/02 and also as refereed the Welsh Cup Final in the same year. On retiring as an official he took up the role of FAW match delegate before becoming a FAW Referee Development Officer in 2009, a position he has expanded this season by becoming a UEFA Referees’ Observer.
Society president Danny Thomas presented Ray with a small gift from the Society in thanks for his efforts and guidance to members in Pembrokeshire.
Warm welcome to newcomers
The Society’s next meeting is on Friday, 8th October, kicking off at 7.00 pm at Neyland Athletic Club. A warm welcome would be made to any prospective referee, where those interested in taking up the whistle should contact Brian Hawkins, the Hon Secretary of the Manderwood Pembrokeshire League, who hopes to have a new course started in the near future.

Hakin United suffer shock defeat at Johnston and Haverfordwest County score 13 goals at Kilgetty to march to the top of the table
THE biggest shock of the afternoon was Johnston beating Hakin United 2-1 at the Glebelands Ground to knock them off their top of the table perch.
The Vikings were expected to win this tussle with ease, but they came up against a Tigers outfit that played with plenty of spirit. Martin Tweedie scored a goal in each half for the home outfit and James Stanmore scored a late consolation effort as Hakin United lost their first game of the season.
Haverfordwest County go top of the table on goal-difference with Hakin United and Merlins Bridge all with the same points. The Bluebirds won 13-3 at bottom of the table Kilgetty. Luke Robinson (4), Matthew Ellis (3), Eddie Wiggins (3), Craig George (2) and Gethin Roberts bagged the goals, whilst David Price (2) and Ryan Howells scored for the well-beaten hosts.
Sebastian Seredynski (2), Craig Switzer, Own goal, Joe Lewis and Marc Edwards grabbed the goals for Hundleton in their impressive 6-2 home win over Herbrandston. Nicky Woodrow scored the visitors two goals who have suffered two successive thrashings.
Peter Thomas, Simon Thomas and Matthew Price netted the goals for Merlins Bridge in their 3-1 home victory over Clarbeston Road where Richard Bevan scored in vain for the visitors.
Goodwick United returned to winning ways with a narrow 3-2 victory at Narberth. Danny Williams, Steve Lewis and Ryan Thomas scored for the Phoenix Boys while Ade Jones and Jordan Richards replied for the unlucky Bluebirds.
Paul Hannon (2) and Shane Parry hit the target for Neyland in their comfortable 3-0 home victory over Solva.
Tenby thumped Pennar Robins 5-1 at Bush Camp. Dean Lawrence gave the Robins the lead - but the Seasiders grabbed the game by the scruff where Mike Boswell (2), Jordan Richards (2) and Alex Harley scored goals to wrap up the points.

Hakin United remain top of table - Haverfordwest County and Merlins Bridge also win to stay in contention
There were a total of 28 goals scored in six games played in Saturday’s Division One fixtures - with no real surprise results.
Starting at the top of the league where leaders Hakin United convincingly defeated bottom of the table Kilgetty 6-0 at home. Paul Jones led the rout completing a hat-trick from the penalty spot. Scott Reynish, Steve Mathias and Ryan Wilson all found the back of the net for the high-flying Vikings.
Haverfordwest County move into second spot just three points behind Hakin United, they crushed Narberth 5-0 on their own patch. Luke Robnson was on target with a hat-trick, plus Gareth Elliott and Gethin Roberts added their names to the Bluebirds’ second-string’s scoresheet.
Hundleton were brought back down to earth with a bump as they lost 3-0 against reigning champions Merlins Bridge. Joe John, Stephen McNabney and Jay Brockway scored for the magical Wizards.
Tenby won by the biggest margin of the afternoon as they thrashed Herbrandston 7-1 at home. Mikey Boswell struck a superb hat-trick and the Seasiders bagged further goals from Rob Whitfield, Tom Meiring, Jordan Richards and Declan Carroll. Nikki Woodrow scored Herbandston’s only goal on a day they will quickly want to forget.
Clarbeston Road won for the second successive week by the same margin 1-0 as Richard Bevan scored the only goal at home against Neyland.
Solva won 3-2 at home against Johnston in a five-goal thriller. Brothers Ben Jones (2) and Luke Jones hit the target for the home outfit, whilst Luke Hayward and Martyn Tweedie scored for the luckless visitors.

Goal happy Hundleton hammer high-flying Goodwick United
Hundleton produced a stunning display to completely demolish high-flying Goodwick United 6-0 at home and knock them off their top of the table perch.
Just three days ago Goodwick won 4-0 at Merlins Bridge and Hundleton lost 7-2 at home to Hakin United. But what a turnaround for last season’s Division Two champions who got their act together against the shell-shocked visitors, and they had Craig Switzer (2), Sebastian Seredynski (2), Lloyd Wilson and Robin Stanley to thank for netting the goals in the biggest shock result of the season so far.
Hakin United go a point clear at the top of the table despite only picking up a 4-4 draw at close neighbours Herbrandston. Nicky Woodrow, Josh Smart, Leigh Marchant, and Jonathan Bennett scored the goals for the home outfit, whilst Steve Mathias (2), Michael Cooper and James Stanmore found the target for the visitors.
Tenby took an early lead at Haverfordwest County where Michael Beynon made no mistake from close range, in the second period the hosts equalised with Eddie Wiggins finding the back of the net to salvage a point as it finished 1-1 at the Bridge Meadow.
Clarbeston Road were over the moon as they finally won their first game of the season with a 1-0 win at Johnston. Former rugby player Duncan Hart scored early and the Road clung on for three precious points.
Both Kilgetty and Solva didn’t have a point before they locked horns, so something had to give, and it finished with Solva bagging their first points of the campaign with a comfortable 9-3 win. Matt Harries (3), Dave Price (3), Luke Jones, Ben Jones and Gary Reynolds. Rhys Hewson, Oliver Griffiths and Dave Jones (penalty) scored in vain for the bottom of the table Kilgetty.
Narberth returned to winning ways with a comfortable 5-3 home victory against Pennar Robins. Jordan Williams grabbed a hat-trick alongside goals from Ade Jones and an own goal completed the home side’s tally. Ben Nicholas and Dean Lawrence netted for Robins, who had their wings clipped.

Unbeaten Goodwick and Hakin both bag big wins in fascinating race for the title
Goodwick United and Hakin United gained big victories tonight and are the only teams with one hundred percent winning records in Division One as they set the early pace in a fascinating title race.
Champions Merlins Bridge slip down to fifth, after they were given a harsh lesson in the art of finishing by leaders Goodwick United, who hammered the Wizards 4-0 at the Racecourse.
The current league leaders proved they are serious title contenders and are yet to concede a goal in the league as they more than matched the Bridge in every department. Skipper Wayne O’Sullivan scored with a peach of a header, Ryan Thomas lashed a fierce right-foot shot in the roof of the net and Steve ‘Tinker’ Evans also beat Chris Thomas to make it 3-0 at half time. Johnny Horgan’s cross-led to Danny Williams bagging a fourth to complete the rout.
Hakin United travelled over the Cleddau Bridge and returned with a comfortable 7-2 victory at Hundleton. It was not a happy hunting ground for the Vikings who were dumped out of the Senior Cup at the same venue last season. However, their demons were laid to rest with goals from Paul Jones (3), Ashley Bevan (2), Chris Milich, and Matthew Broome. Craig Switzer and Jamie Stanley bagged goals for the mid-table outfit.
Haverfordwest County moved up to third with a comfortable 3-1 home victory over Solva who are still pointless. Striker Dai Davies was on target with a brace alongside a neat goal from Dorian Davies. Ben Jones scored a consolation effort for the second from bottom visitors.
Johnston and Herbrandston fought out a 1-1 draw at Glebelands. Martin Tweedie scored for the hosts and a neat Mark Jones finish cancelled that out.
Neyland and Pennar Robins also drew 1-1 at the Athletic Ground. Rhys Blain made no mistake for the Nomads and Mickey Powell scored for the Robins to secure a point.
Jordan Williams (2) and Ritchie Adams scored to ensure Narberth returned to winning ways with a 3-1 win over close-neighbours Kilgetty at Jesse Road. Dave Jones netted for the visitors who are third from bottom and also pointless.
Tenby were too hot for bottom of the table Clarbeston Road who remain bottom of the table and pointless – and were thrashed 7-1 at the Clicketts. Mike Beynon was on target with a superb hat-trick alongside other goals for rampant Seasiders from Tom Meirion (2), Declan Carroll and Tom Baker. All the Road could muster was an own goal as they face a very difficult long hard winter.

Goodwick, Hakin and Merlins Bridge are setting the early title pace
There were some interesting results in the Manderwood Pembrokeshire Football League Division One on Saturday.
Second in the table Hakin United kept their unbeaten record intact with a thrilling 3-2 victory at Pennar Robins. Ben Nicholas and Dean Lawrence gave the home side a two-goal cushion at the interval. But the Vikings got their act together in the second half, as Ashley Bevan (2) and Paul Jones struck to snatch three points when all seemed lost.
Reigning champions Merlins Bridge proved too hot for Solva as they ran out 4-1 victors. Striker Stephen McNabney bagged a hat-trick alongside a stunning Simon Thomas direct free kick. The visitors scored a consolation effort through Gary Reynolds.
League leaders Goodwick United gained an excellent 2-0 home victory over Tenby. Steve Evans bagged a goal in each half, as they also remain unbeaten after three matches.
Last season’s Division Two champions Hundleton gained a hard-fought 3-2 win at Clarbeston Road. Richard Bevan scored twice for the home outfit, whilst Joe Lewis (2) and Craig Switzer netted for the visitors to bag the precious points.
Haverfordwest County gained a thoroughly deserved 4-1 home victory over Neyland. Craig George (penalty), Matthew Ellis, Luke Robinson and Eddie Wiggins breached the back of the net, whilst Wayne Parry grabbed a consolation for the visitors with a firmly struck penalty.
Former Welsh Premier striker Nicky Woodrow scored twice for Herbrandston in their sweet 4-1 home win over Narberth. Marc Gelona and Anthony Patterson also added their names to the home side’s score sheet, and Vincent Morse scored a late consolation goal for the out of sorts visitors.
After losing in midweek, Johnston bounced back with an important 3-1 win at Kilgetty. Adam Hawkins (penalty), Simon Ormond and Ryan Doyle scored for the triumphant visitors whilst Adam Johns scored the only goal for losing home outfit.
