Walters in the runs as Johnston go big at Glebelands
Johnston (266 for 9) beat St Ishmaels II (147 for 5) by 119 runs
Opener Leigh Walters made 68 as Johnston’s total of 266 for 9 proved way too much for St Ishmaels 2nds at Glebelands.
He hit nine fours in his knock, with opening partner Andree ‘Ackie’ Harris also on form as he crashed nine boundaries in his 45.
No 3 Chris Fitzpatrick continued the momentum with eight fours and a six in his 64, while skipper Josh Hicks cracked a maximum in his quick-fire 20.
It meant a long 40 overs for Tish in the field but they did manage to take nine wickets as skipper Robbie Thomas led the way with 4 for 18, and Steve Williams (1 for 30), Stuart Carpenter (1 for 47), Lenny Rees (1 for 58) and Thomas Williams (1 for 63) all plugged away.
And the visitors were resilient in their reply despite falling 119 runs short – with opener Steve Williams hitting seven fours in his 41 and son Thomas stroking four boundaries in his 20.
Stuart Carpenter also cracked five fours and a six to finish 41 not out and No 6 James Hall also held up Johnston’s quest to take wickets with 28 – 20 in boundaries – as Tish finished 147 for 6.
For Johnston it was Harries who took 3 for 36 while Mark Hicks (1 for 18) and Fitzpatrick (1 for 1) had a wicket each.
Laugharne make light work of The Town
Laugharne (76 for 3) beat Haverfordwest III (75 all out) by 7 wickets
Laugharne head into the second half of the season still very much in the promotion picture as they hammered Haverfordwest 3rds.
Away skipper Dai Haynes opted to bat and his side were shot out for 75, mainly thanks to a super spell from James Ingledon which yielded him 5 for 15.
Rob Couzens took 2 for 24 as only Sodhail Siddiqui and Haynes himself (19) offered resistance.
Andrew Edwards and co then got home with seven wickets in hand, with Edwards himself making 22 while Craig Hurst belted 31 not out – with Seth Woodhouse (1 for 19) the pick of The Town’s bowlers.
James keeps cool as The Cows edge Cresselly
Llanrhian (148 for 4) beat Cresselly 2nds (145 for 5) by 6 wickets
A vital knock of 46 not out from Iwan James got Llanrhian over the line in their game with Cresselly 2nds.
The leaders were 107 for 4 chasing 46 to win when James steadied matters to steer his side home by six wickets.
Cresselly opted to bat and much of their innings centred around opener Neal Williams, whose consistent form continued with an unbeaten 79 – including 13 fours.
No 3 Damian Arthur made 15, Neil Lewis 16, and there was a late 13 not out (two fours) from Jamie Goldsworthy as Daf Williams (2 for 36) and skipper Nigel Delaney (2 for 12) took home wickets, while Jack Jones conceded just four runs from his eight overs.
Openers Reed and Lewis then both got starts for Llanrhian - with Reed hitting four fours in a brief 17 and Lewis also finding the rope four times before falling for 29.
Jones (20) and Delaney (15) also chipped in but thanks to the Lewis trio of Matthew Lewis (1 for 29), Corey (1 for 25) and Josh (1 for 34), and veteran Richard Harris (1 for 38), it looked like a tight finish was on the cards.
But James kept cool to hit seven fours and Tom Clarke (13 not out) stayed with him, as the pair finished matters with 10 overs in hand.
Dyer does the business for Narberth
Narberth 2nds (191 for 6) beat Stackpole (172 all out) by 19 runs
A top all round display from Rhodri Dyer helped Narberth 2nds to a big win in their battle to avoid the drop as they saw off Stackpole.
Dyer made 58 with the bat, backed up by Mick Haltham (53) and Andrew Williams (22) as the hosts posted 191 for 6.
For Stackpole, Paul Oeppen (2 for 22) and Geraint Shaw (2 for 26) were the pick of the bowlers.
The run chase was a tense one as Simon Bevan carried matters with a composed 54, while Alan Webster (25) and Yori Roberts (20) also edged the visitors towards the target.
But it was Dyer who again scuppered them with 3 for 35, while Mike Reekie (4 for 19) and Richard Howell (2 for 33) also bowled very well under pressure as the visitors were dismissed for 172 – 19 runs short.
Veteran Lloyd leaves Llangwm in a spin
Neyland 2nds (69-1) beat Llangwm 2nds (67 all out) by nine wickets
Spinner Gary Lloyd starred as Neyland 2nds notched a much needed win over Llangwm 2nds at The Athletic Club.
The visitors won the toss and opted to bat, only for the veteran to take super figures of 5 for 11 in his eight overs, a stint that included four maidens.
Indeed it was only openers Ewan Griffiths and Huw Brock who got going, putting on 26 for the first wicket before the latter was caught by Tom Pritchard to give Lloyd his first scalp.
Griffiths looked good with three early boundaries to reach 14 but when he then went the following over, holing out to George Williams of Jack John’s bowling, the away side never recovered and slipped to 67 all out.
John himself went on to take 3 for 14 and Tom Pritchard notched 2 for 22, with only No 8 Jon Clout offering lower order resistance with an unbeaten 11 (two fours).
Paul Miller’s men then didn’t hang about in the reply, Will Hughes cracking four boundaries to race 21 off just nine balls before being bowled by Michael Williams.
But fellow opener Lewis Page also hit five fours to end 27 not out, and Ashley Sutton cracked two of his own to make 19 not out as Neyland reached the target in just 10 overs.
