Indoor Cricket - Week Four

Participating Teams: Cleddau Crusaders, Haverfordwest B and Neyland B
Venue: Tenby Leisure Centre
Umpires: Neil Croucher and Peter Davies

There were runs aplenty as Neyland B played really well to account for their counterparts from Haverfordwest and the Cleddau Crusaders, with organiser Peter Davies again delighted about the number of young players involved.

“There were some excellent performances from individuals and loads of sixes as proof of the enjoyment gained by players and spectators alike,” he added afterwards, “and particular praise should again go to umpire Neil Croucher, who has officiated at every much in his quiet, commonsense way.”

Match One:  Haverfordwest B (121 for 3) beat Cleddau Crusaders (96 for 3)

Adil Khan - bowled and batted well for Haverfordwest BNikhil Mathias showed what a good young batsman he is with a top score of 44 not out as Haverfordwest B beat Cleddau Crusaders by 25 runs, his classy innings including four fours as he was joined by Jack Scriven (14), Josh Hicks (25 before he retired) and Adil Khan with a late undefeated 21 as there was a wicket apiece for bowling Crusaders Iwan Griffiths, Jonathan Clout and Jacob Lay.

Noah Davies (28) and Phil Llewellyn (25) gave the Crusaders a solid start before both had to retire but no-one else managed double figures against useful bowling by Mathias and especially Khan (2 for 11) – and it was only 26 from ‘Mr Extras’ that saw the Crusaders to what was eventually a decent score.

Match Two: Haverfordwest B (108 for 4) lost to Neyland B (109 for 2)

Henry Durrant - led Neyland B by exampleThis was undoubtedly the game of the day as Haverfordwest B were in contention throughout but sensible batting by Steve Murray (16 not out) and Tom Pritchard (15 not out) saw Neyland B home with just two balls left.

Jack Scriven (27 not out) and Archie Thomas (15) were the only Town batsmen who looked comfortable before a whirlwind innings by last man Adil Khan took them past three figures as he smashed six sixes en route to 42 before he became one of Henry Durrant’s two late victims after Murray and Pritchard had claimed earlier success.

Durrant then opened the batting with 27 before he had to retire, as did Paul Miller (25) after these experienced campaigners has redressed the loss of Luke Ryan, bowled by Scriven for a duck.
Geraint Rees also departed cheaply but Murray and Pritchard batted well to edge Neyland B home.

Match Three: Neyland B 157 for 0 beat Cleddau Crusaders (107 all out)

Noah Davies - huge hitting for Cledday CrusadersNeyland B easily accounted for a tired Cleddau Crusaders’ team in the final match as they totaled a massive 157 without losing a wicket, and then restricting the brave efforts of Noah Davies and Iwan Griffiths to launch a late fight back.

Henry Durrant (27), Paul Miller (26), Luke Ryan (36) and Geraint Rees (27) all came, scored and went under the retirement rule before Murray and Pritchard batted at the end to compound the Crusaders’ problems.

Geraint Rees and Paul Miller both claimed two wickets each as the Crusaders struggled early on but opener Noah Davies slammed five sixes in his sparkling 60 and found willing support from last man Iwan Griffiths, with 34 as their team finally fell 50 runs short, despite their yeoman efforts.
