Neyland A sound an early clarion call

Indoor Cricket Week Two:

Competing teams: Neyland A, Neyland B & Neyland C
Venue: Tenby Leisure Centre
Umpire: Neil Croucher

Neyland’s powerful A team sounded an early clarion call to the other teams in the 2017 Indoor Cricket League, by smashing both their B and C teams as there were man of the match performances from Nathan Banner and Ashley Sutton, when the club’s cricketers descended on the Tenby Leisure Centre in Week Two of the 2017 season.

Match One: Neyland A (145 for 2) beat Neyland B (48 all out) by 97 runs

Nathan BannerNeyland A called upon a very strong squad of players as it omitted only Patrick Bellerby out from their ‘Super Seven’ squad that welcomed back Paul Murray as their wicket-keeper/batsman.

But Murray was soon dismissed as he was run out for only nine runs, run out by his brother Stephen and Nick Koomen departed for 12 to a useful delivery from left-armer Henry Durrant, who would walk into any other team in the indoor set-up.

From there on, however, Sean Hannon’s team ruled the roost as they finished up on a healthy final tally from their allotted ten overs.

Nathan Banner again showed that he is one of the best players in the county with 46 not out made from two visits to the crease, smashing four big sixes in the process.

He received excellent support from Ashley Sutton (26) and Patrick Hannon (27) before both retired having passed 25, whilst skipper Sean Hannon chipped in with a late 21 not out.

Neyland B struggled from the outset as openers Luke Ryan, Paul Miller and No 4 Geraint Rees departed cheaply, whilst Paul Murray gained revenge on brother Stephen (15) with a good catch off the bowling of Nathan Banner, who finished his one over with a 3 for 1 haul!

Only Henry Durrant, who was finally bowled by Patrick Hannon for 25 ever looked settled and the B team were shot out for only 48 runs.

Match Two: Neyland A (193 for 2) beat Neyland C (56 all out) by137 runs

Ashley SuttonAshley Sutton struck eight sixes and three fours as he amassed 74 not out after putting on 62 for the first wicket with Paul Murray (run out for 30) and although Sean Hannon was shifted cheaply by Jason Oatley the rest of the A team showed up again with useful knocks for Patrick Hannon (25) and Nathan Banner (30), before Nick Koomen added a late 17 not out to a mammoth total.

Opener Callum Power topped the C team’s reply with a well-constructed 27 but Ashley Sutton clean bowled his younger brother Nathan, Ben and Ian Milsom in a two-over stint that gave him 3 for 9 figures.

Nathan Banner also completed a splendid day for him with 1 for 4 in his two overs, whilst Sean Hannon conceded only one run in his 12 balls as he also claimed the first maiden over of the day!

Match Three: Neyland B (122 for 3) beat Neyland C (101 for 5) by 21 runs

Henry Durrant Good batting from Paul Miller (30 not out), Luke Ryan (28 not out) and Steve Murray (retired on 26) saw Neyland B get off to a strong start against their C team which was continued by Geraint Rees (12) and Henry Durrant (22) as they ended their ten overs on a useful 122 for 3 wickets, whilst Jason Oatley was the pick of the C team bowling attack with a creditable 2 for 21 late spell.

Oatley also used his wealth of experience to good effect as he was the lone standing batsman at the conclusion with an unbeaten 37 after his final two partners departed for ducks. Callum Power (11) and Ben Milsom (28) and Nathan Sutton (14) had given the C team a chance in the first half of the innings but four run outs cost them dearly as the pressure increased, with Luke Ryan, Geraint Rees and Henry Durrant all bowling tight spells to ease the B team home by 21 runs in an entertaining tussle.
