Pembrokeshire Indoor Cricket League – Week Three

Participating teams: Cresselly Crusaders; Lawrenny & Pembroke Dock
Umpires: Neil Croucher & Peter Davies
Venue: Tenby Leisure Centre

There were young players aplenty in week three of local indoor cricket as Lawrenny won both their games and a Cleddau Crusaders’ team of talented teenagers won one against Pembroke Dock.

Small wonder then that organiser Peter Davies was pleased, with an added bonus that no cricket balls were lost in hits to the roofing area this week!

Match One: Pembroke Dock (115 for 4) lost to Cleddau Crusaders (116 for 1)

Jamie White - 48 not out for Pembroke DockCleddau Crusaders announced their arrival in indoor cricket with a convincing win over Pembroke Dock, who also included some newcomers as Jamie White led their batting with a stylish 48 not out against good Crusaders bowling from Phil Llewellyn (2 for 11).

The other Crusaders’ bowlers also tried hard but the top scorer for The Dock was ‘Mr Extras’ with 32 runs alongside other useful knocks by Craig Butland (17) and Connor Beynon (18 not out).

Then Llewellyn showed why he is a very good first division player outdoors with 35 not out that included five boundaries, ably assisted by Noah Davies before he was run out for 21, Jacob Lay (21 not out) and Jonathan Clout (9 not out).

The extras column was again kept busy with 30 runs there – and helped the Crusaders stroll home with three overs still left!

Harry Thomas, Jamie Lewis, Matthew Kidney and Mathew Lewis shared the wickets for Lawrenny as they also fielded well before skipper Brad McDermott Jenkins smashed 30 quick runs before retiring, finishing with a six, with support from Steve Campbell (13 not out) and Matthew Lewis (9 not out) – and  Lawrenny reached their target without losing a wicket and with overs aplenty in hand!

Phil Llewellyn - looked a class act with the CrusadersThe best match of the afternoon was reserved for the last one as Lawrenny put their greater experience to good effect with victory over the Cleddau Crusaders.

Phil Llewellyn again led the Crusaders’ batting with a cracking innings of 30 before he had to retire, with Noah Davies (15) and Jacob Lay (17) looking comfortable before they were run out in pursuit of quick runs.
Brad McDermott-Jenkins, Matthew Lewis and Matthew Kidney were the Lawrenny wicket-takers – and when they batted Steve Campbell (17) and Matthew Lewis gave them a solid start before both departed to Phil Llewellyn in the Crusaders’ camp.

But then Brad McDermott-Jenkins again intervened with a speedy 30 before retiring, leaving Tom Cole (15 not out) and Matthew Kidney to take Lawrenny home with more than two overs still left in their tally.
