Indoor Cricket Week One - Doc Holliday stars as Town A run amok
Indoor Cricket Week One:
Venue: Tenby Leisure Centre:
Umpires: Neil Croucher & Peter Davies
Simon ‘Doc’ Holliday started the new indoor cricket season off with a bang as he struck sixes galore in his undefeated innings of 49 and 52 against his own B team and the Pembrokeshire Development Squad at the new venue of Tenby Leisure centre on Sunday afternoon.
But the best match of the afternoon was reserved for the final one as excellent batting by teenager Jack Scriven helped Haverfordwest B to a one-wicket win over the development team so well led by Jordan Howell on its first appearance in the competition.
Match One:
Haverfordwest A (156 for 2) beat Haverfordwest B (113 all out) by 43 runs
Simon Holliday belted three sixes and five fours on his two visits to the crease whilst at the other end Ben Field and Nigel Delaney hit 26 and 27 respectively before retiring, with support from Danny Potter (14) and Kieran O’Connor (8 not out) alongside an unlikely tally of 26 extras!
The Town B team started badly as Nikhil Mathias was run out for a duck but Paul Tough (24), Jake Merry (27), Adil Khan (12), Archie Thomas (12) and Jack Scriven (16) made solid contributions before they were all out, with Ben Field claiming the best figures of 2 for 20 and had support from other wicket-takers in Holliday, O’Connor and Potter.

Match Two:
Haverfordwest A (178 for 1) beat the PACC Development Squad (83 all out) by 95 runs
Simon Holliday blitzed six sixes and three fours en route to his 52 not out after retiring on 25 but allowed to return to the crease after all the other batsman had taken their chance – and again both Ben Field (27), Nigel Delaney (26) batted well but had to retire, as did Kieran O’Connor (28) and skipper Danny Potter (30) as Lewis Hough claimed the only wicket.
Jordan Howell (30 not out) and Jack Nicholas (29 not out) opened well for the PACC youngsters but only Kyle Williams (13) looked comfortable as O’Connor (2 for 28), Potter and Delaney grabbed wickets in their final tally of 80 for 4 against a team which last season reached the National Finals at Lord’s!

Match Three:
PACC Development Squad (109 for 4) lost to Haverfordwest B (110 for 5) by one wicket
A terrific innings of 35 not out by last man Jack Scriven steered Haverfordwest B to victory from the very last ball of the afternoon as he played with a maturity beyond his years after the Development Squad had set a challenge with their innings of 109 for 4.
Jordan Howell (36 not out) was again the lunch-pin of their innings, supported by Kyle Williams (19) and Harry Nicholas (23), plus 16 from ‘Mr Extras’, whilst Archie Thomas (2 for 24) led The Town B bowling with 2 for 24.
It looked likely the youngsters wold gain their first victory as The Town B lost early wickets before Jake Merry struck 35 and Thomas chipped in with double figures against wicket-takers Kyle Marsh, Jack Nicholas, Lewis Hough and Harry Nicholas.
With five Haverfordwest wickets down it was only Jack Scriven who stood alone against them – and the wicket-keeper batsman steered his side to victory – but Jordan Howell’s team will have learned a great deal from their first excursion into indoor cricket!
