Division Two:

Llangwm lead the table after nerve-jangling win

Llangwm (124 all out) beat Narberth (121 all out) by 3 runs

Umpires: Tony Scourfield & Jake Humbles
Scorers: Stuart Beresford & Emma Richards

There was a tight finish at Pill Parks before Llangwm edged out fellow promotion hopefuls Narberth by just three runs to go top of the section table.

Llangwm were never able to find the sizeable batting partnership that would set them up well but they dug in well after tea with good bowling from Noah Davies (2 for 32), Phil Llewellyn (2 for 21), Luke Brock (2 for 8), Ollie Davies (1 for 22) and Matthew Kiff (1 for 38), with some good fielding a big help.

As usual this season the home side failed to utilise their allocated overs to the full, being bowled out in 33.1 overs despite the efforts of Will Beresford (24), Matthew Kiff (22), Joseph Kiff (13) and some help from 16 extras as Ben Quartermaine (3 for 13), Ben Hughes (4 for 42), Owen Richards (2 for 35) and Kamal Sharma (1 for 10) claimed the wickets for Narberth.

Jordan Howells (27), Ben Hughes (17) and Ben Quartermaine (17) were the only Narberth batsmen to stay long as their challenge fell four runs short of victory as Llangwm’s true grit saw them home.

Carew cruise to top half of the table

Carew 2nds (233 for 5) beat Saundersfoot (82 all out) by 151 runs

Umpires: Denis Chiffi & Richard Scriven
Scorers: Adge John (Saundersfoot)

Carew 2nds enjoyed a huge win as they amassed runs aplenty at their Recreational Ground and shot out a disappointing Saundersfoot side in response.

Carew’s tally of 233 for 5 owed much to some good batting by Scott Richards (53), Nick Davies (52) and Chris Cole (46), plus cameos from Haydn Shapcott (17) and Luke Hicks (12) against Sam Franklin (2 for 35), Morgan Slate (2 for 67) and Neil Powling (1 for 26).

Harry Cook (4 for 27) and Jacob Knox (4 for 20) then tore into the Saundersfoot batting line-up as Franklin (21), Gareth Edwards (17) and Steve Cook (15) shared the bulk of the visitors’ runs, with Kerry Waters (1 for 8) and Carl Thomas (1 for 20) also helping Carew into third place.

High-scoring draw at Llandigige Fawr

Llanrhian (177 for 6) drew with Haverfordwest 2nds (202 for 6)

Umpires: Les Hastings & Arthur Brady
Scorers: Kelly Williams (Haverfordwest)

Jake Merry - scored a very good half century for Haverfordwest 2ndsAlmost 400 runs were shared at Llandigige Fawr as Llanrhian dug in to deny visitors Haverfordwest 2nds an outright victory.

Put into bat, The Town were set up by a second wicket partnership of 76 from opener Nigel Morgan (25) and Sean Williams – who took advantage of being dropped early in his innings as he made exactly 50.

Youngster Jake Merry continued the good work by also making 50, and Ashley James helped push the visitors to maximum batting points with a hard-hitting 43 as Mathew Bennett picked up 3-59, and spinners Rhodri Owen (2-50) and debutant Rob Couzens (1-34) also bowled well.
The Town struck early in Llanrhian’s reply as Jack Blockwell (1-12) removed opener Ben Jones (6) – and his partner Paul Lewis made a brisk 27.

But it was a fourth wicket partnership from skipper Richard Reed and Bennett that effectively ended Haverfordwest hopes of a win, with Reed unbeaten on 30 when he was forced to retire hurt after picking up a calf injury.

Bennett went on to bring up a half century with a big six before eventually falling for 59, and he found decent support from Rhodri Owen who finished on 24 not out – with Llanrhian left 25 runs, and Haverfordwest four wickets, short of victory.

For The Town, the accurate Nigel Morgan took 1-26 in 12 overs, and there were further wickets for James (2-56) and Sean Williams (2-27).

However, the highlight of a good-spirited match was undoubtedly provided by Llanrhian No 4 Sam Kurtz, as his big straight six struck one of the famous Llandigige Farm cows on the backside, causing a brief flurry of frantic activity in the neighbouring field!

Burton gain the better of the draw

Morgan Scale finished 62 not out for BurtonLlechryd (136 for 7) drew with Burton (183 for 5)

Umpires:  Tony Waldeis & Bob Elliott

Llechryd and Burton shared the points at the RDM Oval but it was the visitors who took the bulk of the bonus points as reward for their better batting and overall play.

Richard Jones (33), Luke Hayman (21) and Jonathan Venables (21) gave Burton a solid start but it was the big-hitting exploits of Morgan Scale which took them to what was a good total with five fours and three big sixes in his 62 not out against James Henneker (2 for 20), Peter Betterley (2 for 44) and Ben Kiss (1 for 27).

Dewi Davies (22), Tomos Davies (21) and Ollie Roberts (20) all looked in good nick for Llechryd but got out at key moments against the ageless Steve Jones (4 for 28) and Johnny Scale (2 for 16), alongside a 1 for 26 spell by Morgan Scale – and the points accrued allowed Burton to leap-frog their opponents into fourth spot in the table.

Wayne Jones struck an excellent 84 not out for Whitland 2ndsUmpires: Allan Hansen & Mervyn John
Scorers: Claire Cox and Jenny Davies-Scourfield

An excellent innings of 84 not out by experienced batsman Wayne Jones helped Whitland Seconds successfully chase down Stackpole’s tally in this basement battle and earn them their first win of the campaign as well as the points needed to push the opposition into bottom place.

Stackpole steadily built their way to a challenging final tally, despite losing wickets at regular intervals to Whitland bowlers Wayne Howells (2 for 35), Conor Bowen (3 for 40) and Gethin Benjamin (2 for 18), with Josh Davies (46), Lewys Gibby (18) and skipper Richard Mackay (41) claiming the lions’ share of the runs.

But then Jones intervened with his boundary-laden innings alongside another veteran in Wayne Howells (22 not out) despite the efforts of Simon Bevan (3 for 24) and skipper Richard Mackay (2 for 38) for Stackpole.
