2021 Indoor League B Division - the facts and figures

The Indoor League ‘B’ Division has been played in wonderful spirit and although it was low in number of participants (four!) it has been high in competitive spirit linked to great camaraderie – so well done players, umpires and scorers!

Especial thanks also go to organiser Peter Davies and his sidekicks in Martin Jones, Patrick Hannon (who compiled these statistics) and his twin brother Sean for also being involved whenever he was needed – they formed a great team in their own right, with the emphasis on getting every game played!

Batting - B League Most Runs Scored

Callum Power - Most runsLuke Murray - highest average (of 114)Callum Power has been a key member of the Neyland C team with his ability to give them a solid start as an opening bat whilst doing a good job as wicket-keeper – and he will be delighted to sit proudly at the top of the ‘most runs’ category with 231 runs from his nine innings.

He has reached the retirement figure of 25 runs on five occasions as proof of his consistency and we at PembrokeshireSport.co.uk applaud his terrific average of 57.75 as he has also taken catches and stumpings as a bonus.

Just three runs behind was Luke Murray (Pembroke Dock C) who also batted nine times but was undefeated on an amazing seven times as proof of his consistency. As a result of his 228 runs he earned an average of 114, but more of that later.

In third place, another three runs adrift after nine matches, was  David Lockyear (Hundleton), whose final total was boosted by one huge innings but he had only two undefeated knocks and so he will have slipped down the averages with 32.14.

Peter Kingdom (Pembroke Dock B), who used his experience to good effect to finish in fourth spot, had an average of 57.67 – and it was nice to see ‘old timers’ like Leighton O’Connor (Pembs Veterans - fifth), Nick Daley (Pembroke Dock B - sixth) Kevin Bowen (Pembs Veterans - eighth), and Jonathan Williams (Hundleton - tenth).

Adam Phillips (Pembroke Dock B) and Ben Adams (Hundleton) were the other run makers in seventh and ninth respectively.

Batting - B League Highest Average

Going back to the top averages, the runaway leader was Luke Murray whose average was an amazing 114, the first century stat that we have come across in the history of indoor cricket – and that included one match when he was run out for a duck!

But another member of the Power family in Rhys (Neyland C) came in from nowhere to accumulate 90 runs from his four innings, three of them not out.

Another who crept in at No 3 was Jake Davies (Pembroke Dock B) as he scored 69 runs from three innings, with only one dismissal and then Callum Power featured in fourth place with an average of 57.75, which in my book put him in second place out of those who played regularly – well done Cal!

Peter Kingdom was fifth and Leighton O’Connor sixth and only St Davids School head teacher David Haynes (Pembs Veterans) featured from the group below in tenth place with an average of 42.

Bowling - B League Most Wickets

Niall Brunton - most wickets taken and best averageStuart Carpenter - most economicalCongratulations to Niall Brunton (Pembroke Dock B) as he finished as the top wicket-taker and also came first in terms of best average of 11.25 from his nine overs, where he claimed eight wickets, but it was the wily slow stuff of Stuart Carpenter (Pembs Veterans) who had the best economy rate of 6.95 from his 10 overs.

Other ‘old stagers’ in Nick Daley (Pembroke Dock C) and Andrew Williams (Narberth) came in the top three with 7 and 5 wickets respectively there four wickets apiece for Rhys Beavis and Nathan Sutton (Neyland C), plus Stuart McNiffe (Hundleton) – and with one wicket fewer came Jonathan Williams (Hundleton) Stuart Carpenter (Pembrokeshire Vets), Sam Laugharne (Neyland C) and Ian Milsom (Pembs Veterans).

There was second place in terms of average from Neal Williams (Pembs Veterans) and Rhys Beavis was third from Neyland C – so well done lads!

In terms of all-rounders there is no doubt that Nick Daley stands aloft since he came sixth in terms of most runs and second-best wicket-taker – whilst Jonathan Williams came tenth in the batting and seventh in bowling to confirm their excellent all-round skills!

WELL DONE NICK AND TAFFY!
