Beat the Expert - Week 3 : 18th February 2012
The Expert takes a two-point lead over Big Bernie
The Expert won this week's clash 4-3 to take an overall 9-7 lead over Big Bernie. The Expert flexed his muscles by getting a correct score with Johnston winning 3-1 at Haverfordwest County. Two matches were called off due to waterlogged pitches, so things could have possibly been far worse. "I'm starting to pull away now," said The Expert. "He's now feeling the pressure and is starting to panic! I think he will have to pray for a miracle to beat me now!"
Big Bernie's a point behind already!
Bernie Armstrong is already a single point behind The Expert after their first matches went ahead but still maintains that he is well capable of easing home to victory over the next three weeks (The Expert has sportingly decided to make the first week null and void so Big Bernie has time to prove himself.
But the Goodwick United supremo had better be careful because he has been telling people that he would have been ahead but for tipping his own team to win when he knew they were going to be desperately short of players – but lost points out of sheer loyalty.
“How can he possibly say that?” thundered our resident ‘Mr Grumpy’, “that’s just making excuses and he should have been using his insider knowledge to good effect.
“I already knew from my mole in the club (some fellow with ginger hair) that Big Bernie was playing up front – at the age of 52 and with the worst pair of knees I have seen in my life. He’s even been seen running along the breakwater in Goodwick with two scrawny little dogs that were even too quick for him!”
“And I know that he is planning to play again this Saturday unless that nice lady at Armstrong Villas can persuade him otherwise. She has to put up with his groaning afterwards and should put him in one of the many outbuildings – but is too soft!”
“He still thinks he can get an ‘I Beat The Expert’ tee-shirt but he can dream on!”

Division One:
Haverfordwest County 1 - Johnston 2
This could go either way but I think Johnston will be geed up by their West Wales Cup win and so I’ll go for them!Hundleton 4 - Milford United 1
Hundleton are a more than useful side on their own pitch so although Milford will battle hard I have to go for Mark Powell’s boys!Merlins Bridge 3 - Narberth 1
Merlins Bridge look like winning the league and so I think they will be too experienced for Narberth on The RacecourseNeyland 2 - Monkton Swifts 1
This is a very hard match to forecast but I decided not to sit on the fence and so I go for Neyland with home advantage.Pennar Robins 5 - Clarbeston Road 2
Clarbie Road are capable of scoring goals but I think that Pennar Robins will outscore them after seeing the Robins beat us last weekend.Solva 1 - Goodwick United 2
We have a weakened side again for Saturday but I still believe we will be just too strong for Solva – but it won’t be easy!Tenby 1 - Hakin United 4
Hakin will be eager to bounce back after a couple of defeats and I think they will do it, although Tenby are a good side.Remember the format – there is one point for a correct forecast and a bonus point for getting the scoreline correct!”
