Swimming gala makes a splash!
Over 60 youngsters took to the pool for the annual Pembrokeshire Schools Disability Swimming Gala last week as they competed in 29 races in front of an appreciative audience of parents, teachers and fellow pupils
Held at Fishguard Leisure Centre on Wednesday 25th January, the event was organised by Sport Pembrokeshire – Pembrokeshire County Council’s sports development arm - along with the Federation of Disability Sport Wales.
Chris Davies, the assistant swimming development officer and head coach at the Pembrokeshire Puffins Swimming Club, was also present to spot talented swimmers with the best invited to compete at a regional gala in Swansea in April.
All competitors were presented with medals by Carl Milne of Stena Line, which generously sponsored the event. Certificates were also presented to year 10 GCSE Physical Education pupils form Ysgol Bro Gwaun, for their time-keeping duties.
Angela Miles, Sport Pembrokeshire Disability Sports Development Officer said it had been an inspiring event.
“I was very impressed by the hard work and dedication put in by the swimmers themselves and by their teachers,” she said.
She also thanked Jayne Richards and staff of Fishguard Leisure Centre for their help.
