More progress made by Schools’ team

Newport Schools under 15s 3 - Pembrokeshire Schools under 15s 0

Pembrokeshire Schools’ under 15 football team showed how much progress they have made with a battling performance against their counterparts from Newport in a fine match played under floodlights at Abergavenny, competing well with one of the top teams in this competition.

Pembrokeshire’s better possession of the ball than in previous matches produced several first half goal opportunities with Marcus Blair and Bradley Hewett nearly capitalising on the good approach play of Mark Davies and Lloyd Hughes. Newport’s strong defence broke out quickly to counter, but the visitors held firm with Owen Coombs and Alex Hay having fine games in the centre of the defence.

Three goals in ten minutes

Newport’s method showed how they earned draws against Swansea and Cardiff and their danger around the visitors goal kept Daniel Evans busy with a string of excellent saves.

The 0-0 halftime score-line was a fair reflection of the game so far, but as Newport introduced several substitutes they got on top and after ten minutes of the second half Newport scored three goals in quick succession to help them relax.

Pembs battled on

Pembrokeshire were undaunted by these setbacks and continued to produce some excellent passing moves which unfortunately broke down at the edge of the home penalty area and allowed Newport to continue to counter attack in the wide positions.  Harry Ryan and Spencer Williams gave good cover to their central defenders and limited the home team’s scoring opportunities, allowing Pembrokeshire to mount one final attack when Bradley Hewett shot over when put through, which would have been fair reward for his tireless running as the main striker.

Pembrokeshire’s overall performance was excellent, drawing praise from their opponents, officials and spectators alike.

Pembrokeshire Schools under 15s:

Daniel Evans; Harry Ryan; Spencer Williams; Alex Hay; Owen Coombs (Capt); Louis Morgan; Marcus Blair; Mark Davies; Bradley Hewett; Gwion Howells; Lloyd Hughes; Aiden Rainbow; Bradley Davies.
