County Schools’ Under 11s battle hard
against top side
Pembrokeshire Primary Schools Football Squad made the long journey to Newport to play their latest fixture against Newport Schools on ‘4G Astroturf.’ All the squad played well, but were up against very strong Newport sides that had several Cardiff City and Bristol Rovers Centre of Excellent players. The Pembs boys gave a good account of themselves and some of the matches were very tight and could have gone either way.
Pembrokeshire A 1 Newport A 4
This was a very tough first match and the Pembs boys went 1-0 down early on. They spent a lot of the time defending, but still managed to make a couple of scoring opportunities.
Newport piled on the pressure in the second half and Pembs were soon 4-0 down. The boys seemed to start playing in the last ten minutes and forced an own goal to show some reward for their effort.
Pembrokeshire A 0 - Newport B 1
Pembs attacked strongly from the first whistle and they made several chances, but were thwarted by the Newport keeper. Against the run of play Newport broke away and a mix- up in the Pembs defence saw the ball trickle into the back of their net. Try as they might Pembs battled to get the equaliser but it just wasn’t to be their day.
Pembrokeshire B 2 - Newport B 2
Pembs started off well and scored two early goals, both by Jake Houston. Newport came back into the game with two quick goals that caught the defence napping. The remainder of the game was exciting stuff with both sides trying in vain for a winning goal.
Pembrokeshire B 1 - Newport A 2
This was a close game with Pembs playing some good football against a very well-drilled side. Newport went 2-0 before Pembs once again forced an own goal. The last ten minutes were very fraught as Pembs battled for another goal.
