County Juniors learn a harsh lesson
Pembrokeshire Under 13s 0 Cardiff Under 13s 18
Referee: Tudor Walters, Haverfordwest
The talented young footballers who play in the academy at Haverfordwest County and represent Pembrokeshire played host to their counterparts from Cardiff at the Conygar Bridge Meadow Stadium and found it hard going against a team which was physically far bigger and had five players from the Cardiff City and three from the Bristol City squads in their set-up.
Pembrokeshire conceded 18 goals but played their part in an entertaining tussle under the Conygar lights as several players showed really good skills and there was absolutely no shortage of effort throughout – and never once did they stop trying to play good football.
Lee Morgan, the under 13s coach, said afterwards.
“Our boys will have learned a lot tonight by playing against a side that were able to match our skills but were also far bigger physically. It sounds a very heavy defeat, and it was, but we can take many positives from our performance.”
“The Pembrokeshire team comes from all over our county and I would like to thank their parents for their excellent support – and Haverfordwest County for giving our players the treat of playing under floodlights at such a smashing venue.”
The Pembrokeshire squad was:
James Harries; Fin Iles; Jack Blunsden; Lewis Phillips; Luke Harries; Fraser Finlay; Cameron Jenkins; Lewis Thomas; Sam Thomas; Paul Miller; Jake Jones; Ieuan Rutherford; Charlie Perkins; Sion O’Sullivan.
