Indoor Cricket Week Seven:
(Sponsored by Nick Evans and the Cricket Shop, Narberth)
Neyland are again indoor league champs
Participating teams: Haverfordwest, Neyland, Saundersfoot & Whitland.
Venue: Meads Leisure Centre, Milford Haven.
Umpires: Allan Hansen & John Williams.
Scorers: Adam James (Haverfordwest) and Kirsty Hughes (Neyland).
Neyland again showed just why they dominate indoor cricket as they took on Whitland and won with ease before new skipper Sean Hannon received the trophy from Tony Scourfield, the vice-chairman of the Pembroke County Cricket Club, with sponsor Nick Evans also in attendance.
Had Whitland won the final game of the indoor campaign it would have set up a three-way tie because they and Haverfordwest had already beaten Saundersfoot. This would have necessitated a play-off series at another time but Neyland showed they were in no mood to let that happen as they shot out Whitland for 56 runs and reached their target in only 5.1 overs to confirm their right to be considered the No 1 indoor cricket team in Pembrokeshire!
Match One
Whitland (146 for 0)
beat Saundersfoot (85 for 3)
Whitland set out in determined mood against a five-man Saundersfoot side who were always under pressure in the field as Matthew Davies led by example with 25 not out alongside Paul Davies (27 not out) as openers for Whitland before they had to retire.
But there was to be no respite for Saundersfoot as David Dunfee (28 not out) and Mark Lee (25 not out) also batted well before Dan James smashed 20 not out and Carl Smith was still there with him at the end as Whitland recorded a final tally of 146 runs without losing a wicket.
It was always going to be too big a challenge for an inexperienced Saundersfoot side, despite a very good 29 not out by Simon Stanford and 24 not out by George Macbeth. Whitland restricted them to 85 for 3 and were winners by 61 runs in a one-sided affair.

Match Two
Haverfordwest (145 for 4)
beat Saundersfoot (49 all out)
Saundersfoot suffered another pummelling in the field as Haverfordwest batted first and scored a huge 145 for 4 wickets as Simon Holliday top scored with 51 not out, including two sixes, a four and nine threes in his two stints at the crease.
Nitin Mathias marked his indoor debut with a classy 35 not out (two sixes) and Danny Potter stroked 37 not out, including three sixes, a four and five threes and there was double figures for Dan Cole before Geoff Marsh claimed two late wickets as the pick of the Saundersfoot bowlers.
It was again a similar story for Saundersfoot in their innings as Simon Stanford was last out on 29 and no-one else was able to gain double figures as Dan Cole and Owen Jones bowled well. Saundersfoot were shot out for 49 to lose by 96 runs, and earn The Town second spot in the table.

Match Three
Whitland (56 all out)
lost to Neyland (57 for 2)
The eagerly-anticipated clash between Whitland and Narberth turned into something of a damp squib as Whitland were hustled out by a Neyland side so strong in the field. Wicketkeeper Paul Murray ran out key Whitland batsman Paul Davies early on and David Dunfee departed cheaply as Sean Hannon took an excellent catch high above his head on the off-side – and Mark Lee departed next ball to a simple Murray catch off the back wall to give Nick Koomen impressive figures of 2 for 7.
Dan James and Carl Smith were soon run out and a total of 56 all out nine overs was again tribute to Neyland’s applied pressure in the field.
Paul Murray and Gregg Miller gave Neyland their customary speedy start before Murray was well caught by keeper Smith for 20 off 11 deliveries, including a six and a four. Nick Koomen added ten runs before he was run out by a mile from a direct Dan James’ throw but Gregg Miller atoned for that error as he struck the winning four runs with a straight drive as his brother Andrew didn’t need to face a ball at the other end.
It rounded off another excellent season for Neyland and new skipper Sean Hannon deservedly received the trophy from Tony Scourfield.

Indoor Cricket Week Six:

Narberth claim deserved win double
Participating teams: Cresselly, Narberth and Saundersfoot.
Venue: Meads Leisure Centre, Milford Haven.
Umpires: Allan Hansen & Les Hastings.
Scorers: Nigel Morgan & Richard Howell.
Narberth gained their first two victories of the indoor league season as they accounted for both Cresselly and Saundersfoot by playing sensible indoor cricket – although the afternoon was marred slightly by a nasty knee injury to umpire Les Hastings.
Les was officiating in the ‘hot spot’ at square leg when a ball skidded off the bat and hit him full square on the knee – although he fortunately recovered enough to drive home afterwards and PembrokeshireSport.co.uk wishes the popular umpire a full and speedy recovery.
Match One
Cresselly (32 all out)
lost to Saundersfoot (35 for 2)
Cresselly arrived late for their first match and were soon in deep trouble against Saundersfoot as they were shot out for only 32 runs.
Only last man Huw Evans managed double figures and there were a few runs for opener Matthew Morgan and skipper Sion Jenkins as three ducks didn’t help their cause.
Brothers Sam and Jack Franklyn shared four wickets and Grant Hardy also picked up a wicket before Simon Stanford led Saundersfoot to an easy win in only five overs as he finished on 19 not out.

Cresselly also lost to Narberth but made a better fist of it as they scored 80 for 4 in response to the opposition’s 94 for 3 wickets.
Ian Hughes (27 not out), Owen Richards (13), Tom Mills (21 not out) and Ben Hughes (15) all made useful contributions as James Oakley and Luke Cole were the pick of the Cresselly bowlers.
Matthew Morgan (28) led the Cresselly reply and Sion Jenkins chipped in with 15 but Jordan Howell conceded only seven runs in two miserly overs and there was a wicket apiece for Mike Williams, Tom Mills, Ian Hughes and Ben Hughes as Cresselly failed by 15 runs to beat Narberth’s tally.

Narberth then completed a satisfactory afternoon by beating Saundersfoot despite Sam Franklyn achieving top score of the day with 35 not out for Saundersfoot in their total of 86 for 4. Simon Stanford (14) was the other main Saundersfoot run gatherer along with 19 for ‘Mr Extras’ as Ben Hughes and Tom Mills were the pick of the Narberth bowlers.
Owen Richards (2), Tom Mills (12) and Mike Williams (22) gave Narberth a solid start before Jordan Howell also chipped in with 14 – and experienced batsmen Ben and Ian Hughes were there at the end to see Narberth home with eight balls still in hand.

Indoor Cricket Week five:
(Sponsored by Nick Evans and the Cricket Shop, Narberth)
Participating teams: Neyland, Pembroke Dock, Cresselly and Haverfordwest.
Venue: Meads Leisure Centre, Milford Haven.
Umpires: John Williams & Allan Hansen.
Scorers: Kirsty Hughes & Nicola Lloyd.
Neyland stay unbeaten and Pembroke Dock thrash poor Cresselly
Reigning champions Neyland were not at their best but they still had enough in the tank to overcome Cresselly in first game to stay unbeaten. Pembroke Dock thrashed Cresselly in the second game, the latter possibly having thoughts of getting home quickly to watch Wales defeat Scotland in the RBS Six Nations. In the third and final game Haverfordwest had too much quality for battling Pembroke Dock who put in their best display in the indoor league to date.
Match one:
Neyland (90 for 3) beat Cresselly (89 for 5)
Cresselly set a modest 89 for 5 total leaving Neyland with little trouble in chasing down the run rate for victory.
Tom Arthur was run out on 18 and he found good support from J Oatley who was also run out for 18. The Hannon twins Sean and Patrick took a wicket apiece to keep Cresselly at bay.
In reply, Neyland got off to a solid start with run gatherers Gregg Miller (17), Patrick Hannon (not out 25), Nick Koomen (17) and Andrew Miller (17), who all reached double figures and Cresselly’s J Oatley took two wickets in vain.

Pembroke Dock reached over 100 runs for the first time as they crushed poor Cresselly who certainly didn’t put much effort into their batting display. Luke Murray scored an excellent 30 with the bat for the Dock, the youngster slamming four sixes and three fours in his innings and he also snapped up three wickets in the bargain. Jack Davies also had a solid knock of 25 for the Dock. Cresselly showed little resistance with the bat with only Tom Arthur (13) scoring any runs of note as their innings totally collapsed.

Pembroke Dock put in another battling display in the final game, but they came up well short in their reply against vastly experienced Haverfordwest.
The Dock reached 95 for the loss of five wickets and The Town fought back to victory with Danny Potter (27), Simon Holliday (26 not out) scoring valuable runs, also Chris Phillips (21) added timely runs with the bat and he took a splendid catch off the wall to dismiss Nick Davies with his first delivery, and he also bowled an impressive wicket maiden.
Another star performer was the Dock’s Luke Murray who hit three sixes and four fours in a splendid knock of 49 before he was run out. In form Murray also took the wicket of Josh Hicks.

Neyland show true champions’ class
Participating teams: Haverfordwest, Narberth & Neyland
Venue: Meads Leisure Centre, Milford Haven
Umpires: Les Hastings & Alan Hansen
Scorers: Kirsty Hughes & Richard Howell
Neyland showed just why they are the best indoor league team in Wales as they took on Haverfordwest in a clash between the only unbeaten teams left in this year’s Pembrokeshire Indoor League and won with plenty in hand to confirm their superiority. They also beat newcomers Narberth, who also lost to Haverfordwest as they gained further experience and The Town made it three wins from four outings.
Match One
Haverfordwest (72 for 3)
lost to Neyland (75 for 1)
Haverfordwest lost Huw Scriven early on as he was neatly stumped by Paul Murray off the bowling on Nick Koomen for six runs but then The Town looked likely to accumulate a challenging score as Ben Field rasped a six in his 27 not out and Danny Potter stroked seven threes en route to his undefeated 27.
They stood at a healthy 49 for 1 wicket at the half way mark in the innings but then Neyland tightened up their bowling and fielding so that only 24 runs were scored in the final five overs. Sean Hannon had conceded 18 runs in his first over but bowled his second over for just a single run as Nick Koomen claimed 1 for 12, Andrew Miller 0 for 11 and Gregg Miller 1 for 13.
A target of 73 for victory was unlikely to trouble Neyland unduly and their innings was given terrific impetus as Paul Murray smote 25 not out before having to retire, from only 11 deliveries, and including a six and a four. Gregg Miller was the perfect partner as he accumulated 27 not out, including a six and retired after running out brother Andrew for a single as Danny Potter fielded well.
But it was to be the only alarm for Neyland as Nick Koomen (13 not out) saw them home in only 7.3 overs as proof of their dominance in this game.

Haverfordwest (125 for 1)
beat Narberth (82 all out)
Haverfordwest showed their true capabilities in this match as they batted first against Narberth and rattled up a healthy tally before restricting Narberth to 82 all out for a win by 53 runs.
Adam James opened for The Town with three fours in his 28 not out alongside Danny Potter (25 not out) before Josh Hicks (20) Nigel Delaney (18 not out) and Danny Potter (10 not out) added further runs, aided and abetted by a big score of 24 from ‘Mr Extras’ which included 22 wides!
Ian Hughes batted well as he opened for Narberth, who lost Jordan Howell without scoring, retiring at 25 but returning to hit a six and three fours in his 33 before he was eventually run out late on. Ben Hughes (10) and Sean Mills (13) provided some support but Nigel Delaney claimed 2 for 7 as the pick of the Haverfordwest bowlers as Ben Field also claimed a wicket as reward for his bowling.

Match Three
Neyland (123 for 1) beat Narberth (88 for 5)
Neyland opened their innings with Patrick Hannon and Paul Miller, in for big brother Gregg but run out for only four but Patrick (25 not out) was joined by twin brother Sean (26 not out) in taking their team past the 50 mark.
Paul Murray then joined the fray at No 4 and enhanced his deserved reputation as the strongest batsman in indoor cricket as he rifled 30 not out from only 12 balls, including a six and three fours. Andrew Miller 920 not out) and Nick Koomen (8 not out) maintained the run chase so that Neyland finished their allotted ten overs on 123 for only one wicket.
Narberth lost Jordan Howell, Sean Mills and Mike Williams early in their reply and it was left to cousins Ben and Ian Hughes to redress the balance somewhat. Ben had four fours and a six in his top score of 35 before he attempted another straight drive and was well caught by Paul Murray off Patrick Hannon.
Ian Hughes remained undefeated on 23 but with Patrick Hannon claiming 2 for 21, supported by Paul Miller (1 for 16), Neyland gained their fourth win in as many matches, and deserved top spot in the table.

Whitland return to winning ways
Participating teams: Narberth, Pembroke Dock & Whitland
Venue: Meads Leisure Centre, Milford Haven

Scorers: Helen Griffiths & Richard Howell
Whitland bounced back to something like their best form after defeat by Haverfordwest in their previous match, beating both Pembroke Dock and Narberth with ease at The Meads Leisure Centre.
In the other match, the Dock accounted for newcomers Narberth in a much closer contest, with Narberth sure to have gained from the experience after a long absence out of the indoor game.
Match One
Whitland (122 for 4)
beat Pembroke Dock (72 for 6)
Whitland gave notice of their intentions from the outset as they batted first against Pembroke Dock and had a fair start through Paul Davies (14) and skipper Matthew Davies (19) but veteran bowler John Davies grabbed two quick wickets and suddenly Whitland were four wickets down.
But they had masterful innings from Mark Lee and keeper Adam Davies, who failed to score from only five balls as they sped to 122 for 4. Mark Lee had 12 threes and a four in his undefeated 45 (from only 20 deliveries) and Adam Davies hit six threes and a four in 30 made from 17 balls.
Faced with a daunting target, the Dock started well via John Davies (25) and Luke Murray (16) but Matthew Davies not only took a good return catch to shift John Davies but also got rid of Jamie White and Nick Daley in quick succession as part of an excellent 3 for 14 spell. David Dunfee conceded only seven runs and there were wickets for Paul Davies and Mark Lee as the Dock were dismissed for 72 to give Whitland victory by 50 runs.

Davies was joined by Mal Morris (25 not out) and Luke Murray (28 not out) as the Dock sped to 77 without loss but useful bowling by Ben Quartermaine and Jordan Howell, who only gave away six runs in two overs, restricted them to a reasonable 90 for 3.
Narberth also made a solid start through Howell (24) and Dan Hughes (28) but they were never able to get on top of the run-rate and lost quick wickets under pressure to Davies and Jamie White, who grabbed 2 for 5 in his two overs. Owen Richards scored 12 not out at the end for Narberth but they were left stranded on 79 for 5 to give the Dock victory by 11 runs.

Whitland (133 for 4)
beat Narberth (49 all out)
Whitland’s batting power was again very much in evidence against Narberth as Paul Davies (27) and Matthew Davies (43 not out) helped David Dunfee take them to 98 before they lost a wicket. Dunfee was particularly hard on the Narberth bowlers as he slammed two sixes in his lightning-quick innings that took the Whitland tally to 133 for 4 and Matthew Davies showed his turn of pace with 11 smartly-run threes, whilst teenagers Jordan Howell and Owen Richards were the pick of the Narberth bowling attack.
Narberth’s hopes of chasing down such a huge total were soon in tatters as Ben Quartermaine was run out without facing a ball before Mark Lee shifted Ben Hughes and David Dunfee bowled both Ian Hughes and Richards in quick succession. Jordan Howell and Huw Simkins managed double figures but soon followed and Narberth were shot out for 49 to give Whitland the verdict by 84 runs.

Indoor Cricket
Neyland are deserved Welsh Champs again!
Neyland Cricket Club deservedly retained their title as Welsh Indoor Cricket Champions as they made the journey to Cardiff for the finals against other section winners in Pentyrch and Gowerton – and only lost one wicket as they beat both convincingly.
Gregg Miller and his experienced team bowled and fielded so well that they crushed the opposition on both occasions and firstly strolled to victory as they restricted Gowerton to 62 for 5 in their allotted 12 overs and then smashed 67 without loss from only 6.3 overs.
Then Pentyrch were put under just as much pressure when they batted so that the opposition were finally shot out for 68 from the final delivery of their innings – and Neyland reached their target with almost four overs in hand as they lost just a single wicket in the process.
Played at the Indoor Cricket School at the Swalec Stadium, which is almost double the size of the Meads Sports Hall, Neyland initially watched Pentyrch (96 all out) easily account for Gowerton (70 all out) – and then took firm control.
Gowerton grounded with ease
Ian Capon was included in the Gowerton team but even the talented former Neyland all-rounder was unable to influence matters as he was removed by Sean Hannon (1 for 14), whose twin brother led the Neyland attack with an excellent 2 for 6 haul from his miserly three overs. Nick Koomen, Gregg and Andrew Miller were outstanding in the field and keeper Paul Murray claimed a good catch and excellent stumping so that Gowerton were only able to score 62 for the loss of five wickets.
Neyland openers Gregg Miller (26 not out) and Paul Murray (25 not out) are very quick between the wickets and great judges of singles, with Murray also hitting a six before retiring and allowing Andrew Miller (7 not out) to join brother Gregg in what turned out to be an easy win with no wickets down and with 33 balls unused.
Pentyrch pounded
It was a similar story against Pentyrch as Neyland fielded first and put a stranglehold on the opposition run-rate as they fielded brilliantly, keeper Murray again leading the way with a superb catch and stumping. Pentyrch were dismissed for 68, despite 30 from Mike Grossett, off the very last ball of their 12 overs, with four run outs in support of Nick Koomen’s terrific spell of 2 for 10 in his three overs. Patrick Hannon also conceded only 10 runs from his three overs whilst brother Sean gave away only 13 runs in a similar spell.
Paul Murray again had a six before he retired on 26 and although skipper Gregg Miller, leading the team for the final time before handing over the reins to Sean Hannon, was caught at gully for 11 runs there was never doubting the fact that Neyland would seal the title as Andrew Miller also scored 26 not out and Nick Koomen was there at the end with 4 not out.
Steak and chips – and a possible trip to Edgbaston!
Gregg Miller was presented with the coveted trophy by organiser Trefor Jones, who also did the scoring, whilst Neyland had John Laugharne with them as their good luck mascot – and the team celebrated their success in style as they stopped at Sarn Park, Bridgend, on the way home for steak and chips! They now move into the next stage of the competition against the winners of the Herefordshire competition at the Meads Leisure Centre, Milford Haven, on Sunday the 19th February – with the finals at Edgbaston Cricket Ground as the reward for the winners!

Neyland show why they are top team
Participating teams: Neyland, Pembroke Dock & Saundersfoot
Venue: Meads Leisure Centre, Milford Haven
Umpires: Alan Hansen & Les Hastings
Scorers: Kirsty Hughes & Helen Griffiths
Neyland showed just why they are the champions of Pembrokeshire Cricket indoors as they started their new season at The Meads by crushing both Saundersfoot and Pembroke Dock, the former by 63 runs and the latter by a massive 98-run margin.
It nicely sets up Gregg Miller’s team for the Welsh Cup Final to be played at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on Sunday (29th January) and all cricket lovers in Pembrokeshire will join PembrokeshireSport.co.uk in wishing them every success.
Match One
Pembroke Dock (81 for 5)
beat Saundersfoot (78 for 4)
In the opening match, Pembroke beat Saundersfoot by one wicket with five balls remaining as Luke Murray anchored the innings with 29 not out, with support from Nick Daley (18) and Jake Griffiths (19).
Simon Stanford bowled really well for Saundersfoot, conceding only a single in each of his overs, and earlier had topped their batting with four fours and a six in his undefeated 36 alongside Jack Franklyn (18) and George Macbeth (12 not out).
But the Seasiders were unable to raise the tempo as wickets fell regularly to the Dock’s eager fielding, plus tight bowling by Daley and John Davies.
A final tally of 78 for 4 rarely looks a winning score and that is just how it turned out as the Dock paced their reply nicely, and were worthy winners.

Match Two
Neyland (148 for 5)
beat Saundersfoot (85 for 4)
Paul Murray got Neyland off to a speedy start as he belted 25 in seven balls before retiring, whilst Gregg Miller (22), Andrew Miller (24) and Patrick Hannon (24) supported well before Murray returned to the crease towards the end of the innings to blast another 40 runs so that his 60 came from only 21 balls as he slammed four sixes, three fours and 11 threes!
Saundersfoot tried manfully to get close to such a mammoth total as Simon Stanford again top scored with 26 not out and found support from Geoff Marsh 16 and Grant Hardy 13.
But all six Neyland bowlers kept things tight, assisted by the superb fielding and backing up that is now a Neyland trademark, and Saundersfoot were left stranded on 85 for 4 after their allotted ten overs.

Neyland (142 for 1)
beat Pembroke Dock (43 all out)
Neyland also batted first against Pembroke Dock and gave everyone some batting practice as only Andrew Miller was out, caught and bowled for 24 after stroking eight threes in only 11 balls. Gregg Miller, Sean and Patrick Hannon all showed the same judgement of angles, whilst Paul Murray and Nick Koomen struck the ball really hard to leave The Dock having to face a massive 143 runs for victory.
Jake Griffiths and Jamie White managed double figures as The Dock batted but Nick Koomen claimed 3 for 7 to kill off their innings and leave Neyland strolling to victory in only six overs.

Indoor Cricket Week One:
(Sponsored by Nick Evans and the Cricket Shop, Narberth)
Town take two good wins
Participating teams: Cresselly, Haverfordwest & Whitland
Venue: Meads Leisure Centre, Milford Haven
Umpires: Alan Hansen & John Williams
Scorers: Gregg Miller and Nigel Morgan
Haverfordwest made a positive start to the new indoor league cricket competition, held under the auspices of the Pembroke County Cricket Club, as they easily accounted for an inexperienced Cresselly side by 54 runs after edging home by a single run in a thriller of a match against old rivals Whitland.
Nip and tuck contest
It was always nip and tuck throughout the match as five Town batsmen were run out, opener Simon Holliday departing without facing a single ball and with the final tally owing a great deal to the run-making powers of Danny Potter (29), Josh Hicks (17) and Ben Field (33). It was a cracking contest before Whitland needed 11 runs off the last over and only three runs with two balls left after ace batsman Paul Davies was unlucky to be run out from a shot which looked a six all the way but touched the ceiling and allowed bowler Josh Hicks to take the rebound and take the bails off.
David Dunfee was run out and last man Adam Davies was left with a single needed off the last ball but Town keeper Ben Field took a splendid low catch to his left and Whitland had lost a match they should have won.
Cresselly taught an indoor lesson
In the first match of the afternoon, Whitland had taught Cresselly a few indoor league lessons as they batted really well to amass 129 for 2 as Matthew Davies, David Dunfee, David and Mark Lee all contributed 25 and only Matthew Davies was out as part of an excellent 2-20 haul by Nick Davies.
David Lee showed his fielding prowess with an excellent run out from a neat back flick of the ball and Nick Davies (30) was the only Cresselly batsman to look in good touch. Mark Lee, Paul Davies and David Dunfee all bowled well as Cresselly were shot out in only 5-3 overs.
Town too strong
It was a similar story in the match between Haverfordwest and Cresselly as The Town had master indoor batsmen Danny Potter in fine fettle as he retired on 25 and then returned at the end of the innings to end up with 46 not out. Huw Scriven (25) and ‘Doc’ Holliday (17) also chipped in to reach a good score and then Holliday was joined by Adam James and Potter in bowling such tight lines that Cresselly only mustered 71 for 5 as Ryan Lewis (19) and Tom Arthur (25 not out) stayed long. Ben Field handed over the gloves to regular incumbent Huw Scriven for this match but again played a part as he took a good return catch to dismiss key Cresselly batsman Simon Cole for a Golden Duck!
