Fixtures 14th January 2012
Last weekend was a bit of a disaster as I could only muster six correct forecasts out of 11 matches – as clubs proved me wrong all over the county.
My new year’s resolution is definitely to do better this weekend!
Division One (West):
Whitland v Llanharan
This looks a good chance for Whitland to claim a double since they have already won narrowly (23-21) in Llanharan.
Verdict: The Borderers did really well at UWIC last Saturday and if they can maintain that momentum they will beat Llanharan here!
Carmarthen Athletic v Narberth
Matches between these teams are traditionally tight, as was their previous game in Narberth where the Otters edged home by 40-38.
Verdict: The Athletic are currently in fifth place with eight wins from 14 starts and so I take Narberth to win, although it is sure to be close!
Division Two (West):
Glynneath v Crymych
Crymych battled hard last week but face an even stiffer hurdle this Saturday as they travel to take on league leaders Glynneath, who have only lost once in 12 outings
Verdict: The Preseli Men lost 35-16 at Parc Lloyd Thomas and, sadly, I can’t see them gaining revenge here!
Division Three (West):
Haverfordwest v Llandeilo
Haverfordwest will be confident after comfortably beating Newcastle Emlyn and Llandeilo losing at home to Cardigan – but they will now that the visitors are not second without good reason.
Verdict: The Blues won 24-19 in Llandeilo and should continue their winning run here.
Tumble v Tenby United
Tumble are fourth in the table, having won seven and drawn two of their 13 matches whilst Tenby are lingering in ninth spot having won three and drawn three from the same number of games.
Verdict: These teams drew 18-all at Heywood lane and the Seasiders will find it harder going in Tumble!
Cardigan v Pontarddulais
Cardigan are playing well, as they proved against Llandeilo, whilst Pontarddulais have yet to gain a win as they have three draws and nine losses.
Verdict: Cardigan won 4-20 in The Bont and are hot favourites to win again at their own King George Vth ground.
Division Four (West):
Hendy v Neyland
Neyland are still struggling at the foot of the table, with only two wins from 13 matches and lost 33-24 at home to Hendy earlier in their campaign.
Verdict: I would love to see the All Blacks beat Hendy, who have five wins so far, but my instinct is that this could be another defeat for Neyland.
Milford Haven v Amman United
This looks like being the clash of the day as third-placed Milford entertain second-placed Amman United, who won in Amman by 22-19. The Mariners edged home at Burry Port and Amman took away Llanelli Wanderers undefeated tag so both sides are on form.
Verdict: If the Mariners are really up for this match, and maintain good discipline then they can win it!
Division Five (West):
Llangwm v Bynea
The Wasps played really well at St Davids to upset my prediction (thanks for the comments, boys!) and will be in good heart for the visit of lowly Bynea, currently bottom in the table with 11 defeats in as many matches.
Verdict: This is a sure-fire win for Jeremy Brock’s Buzzing Wasps.
Pembroke Dock Quins v Fishguard & Goodwick
Another battle-royal in prospect as the Quins follow up their local derby win over Pembroke by entertaining high-flying Fishguard, who slammed them 58-5 on The Moors.
Verdict: There will be no slamming this time and the Seagulls will have to be on top form if they are to complete the double!
St Clears v Pembroke
Pembroke will be looking to bounce back at St Clears but it will be no easy task against a Saints’ team currently in third place with nine wins and a draw from 11 fixtures.
Verdict: The Saints beat the Scarlets 23-17 at Crickmarren and the form book suggests a double success here for St Clears!
Swansea Uplands v St Davids
Swansea Uplands will be looking to beat St Davids by a similar 43-13 margin as when they last met but the Saints will battle all the way, despite struggling to field a settled side.
Verdict: The Uplands are in the race for the title and so it should be an easy win for them at home.
