Beat the Expert - Week 1 : fixtures for 7th January 2012
The Expert takes an early lead
The Expert took an early 5-4 lead over David (Diddy Daisy) Picton (he’s some flower!) after their first week of predications. The Expert got one correct scoreline where Milford United lost 2-4 at home to Pennar Robins, but his banker away win for Hakin went pear shaped at Hundleton as the champions could only muster a 3-3 draw. “I’m sure that Daisy (what type of flower?) told his Hakin pals to throw the points at Hundleton so that he could beat me. Gary Dawes won’t be happy that he has gone behind his back and told the boys to take it easy.” Anyway there’s a long way to go yet and Daisy (could be pansy!) will be chomping at the bit to put The Expert in his place next week. “Bring it on!” taunted The Expert.
Diddy Daisy's up for a real challenge
Daisy Picton is one of the few football pundits who can boast that he has beaten The Expert in a previous season but has also lost against our resident ‘Mr Grumpy’, to the evident delight of his colleagues at Hakin United and Chris Tansey’s ‘Manderwood Mob’ because he did speak about it to them quite a lot. In fact, he never stops speaking about it!
He finished his previous defeat with unfounded allegations of skulduggery against our man’s actions but The Expert has a long memory and said;
“There is no way that someone with a flower for a name can beat me again! On the first occasion I made the mistake of feeling sorry for him but that won’t happen now – not a chance. He’ll soon be coughing up excuses and that will show he’s on the way down and there is no chance of him receiving a coveted ‘I Beat the Expert at PembrokeshireSport.co.uk’ tee shirt.
Our resident ‘Mr Grumpy’ was typically up-beat when he told us,
“My mole in his camp tells me that petal spent the New Year on an ‘Old Fogeys’’ trip at Butlins in Minehead, showing off his dancing skills in the hope of being asked to be a Red Coat next Summer. But Diddy David was about 30 years out of date – as he will prove to be in our tipping challenge!”
Diddy Daisy’s Forecasts:
Division One:
Goodwick United 3 - Solva 1
Solva are not a bad side at home but I think they will find it hard going against Goodwick at Phoenix Park.Hundleton 2 - Hakin United 5
We could be short of a defender or two so I think Hundleton might get a couple of goals at home – but we’ll score plenty with our attack!Merlins Bridge 3 - Narberth 0
The Bridge are a good side and they should prove far too strong for Narberth, especially up on The Racecourse.Milford United 1 - Pennar Robins 3
Pennar play some good football at Bush Camp but I think they can also do it at Marble Hall, where they should prove too strong overall for the Robins.Monkton Swifts 3 - Clarbeston Road 1
The Swifts are never easy to beat at Monkton Lane and although Clarbie are capable of winning anywhere I think the Swifts will soar here!Neyland 2 - Haverfordwest County 2
Both teams are finding it hard to maintain any form so I’ll go for a draw – and not because I’m sitting on the fence but after careful analysis!Tenby 4 - Johnston 2
Johnston might have their thoughts attuned to the West Wales Cup and Tenby have finally found their way forward so I’ll go for the home side in an entertaining match.Remember the format – there is one point for a correct forecast and a bonus point for getting the scoreline correct!”
