Rugby Forecasts
Fixtures 7th January 2012
Division One (West):
Narberth v Bridgend Athletic
Narberth will be eager to keep their top spot in the table by beating Bridgend Athletic, and in doing so avenge a 28-27 defeat against the Athletic earlier in the campaign.
Verdict: The Otters to win this one against a side who have slumped to tenth place, if they play to their potential.
UWIC v Whitland
UWIC are in fifth place, just behind Whitland, having won eight of their 13 games so far, whilst the Borderers have nine wins and a draw from as many matches.
Verdict: The students won 13-8 at Parc Llwyn Ty Gwyn and although I hope the visitors win I think the students might just complete the double here!
Division Two (West):
Crymych v Skewen
Crymych were beginning to find some form before Christmas and will be looking to meet opponents who slammed them 40-7 with home advantage.
Verdict: It will be far closer this time as the Preseli Men have key players back – but I have to go for a Skewen win.
Division Three (West):
Newcastle Emlyn v Haverfordwest
Haverfordwest beat Newcastle Emlyn 25-16 at home and have since gone on to win 10 out of 11 starts whilst Emlyn are currently seventh with six wins and a draw from their 12 games.
Verdict: The Blues should be too strong for Emlyn if they are at their best.
Tenby United v Lampeter
Lampeter won 28-16 in the reverse fixture but with Tenby United having the benefit of playing at Heywood Lane this could be a match the Seasiders could target.
Verdict: The Seasiders to make it a fourth win alongside two draws and move up closer from their 11th spot to a team just three places above them with five wins and five losses.
Llandeilo v Cardigan
Llandeilo are currently second with ten wins and three defeats whilst Cardigan are sixth, having won six out of 12 games.
Verdict: Cardigan won 21-17 at home but I think they will struggle to complete the double against such in-form opposition!
Division Four (West):
Neyland v Aberaeron
Neyland are sadly bottom of the table, having just two wins from 12 outings but they take on Aberaeron knowing they are better than their form suggests.
Verdict: Aberaeron won 18-5 up on Cardigan Bay and will be eager to repeat that result – but I think that if the All Blacks play well they can beat a team currently in fourth spot with seven victories from 12 matches.
Burry Port v Milford Haven
Milford travel to Burry Port, who are seventh placed with five wins and seven losses, whilst the Mariners won 36-16 at The Obs and are now third with none wins from 11 games played.
Verdict: Mackie’s Men should win at Burry Port, providing they keep their collective heads on!
Division Five (West):
Pembroke Dock Quins v Pembroke
Over the years this local derby has always been an intriguing tussle and this will be no exception as the Quins seek to gain revenge for a 20-10 defeat at Crickmarren and continue their climb up the table after an awful start.
Verdict: Pembroke know that to improve on their fourth place they must win at Bierspool and I think Ossie Boswell’s Boys might just snatch the verdict but it could go either way!
St Davids v Llangwm
Llangwm gained a comfortable home win against St Davids but have since struggled to field a competitive side, but so have the Saints as they sit in 11th place to the Wasps’ ninth place.
Verdict: It could really go either way but if the Saints are at full strength I think they might avenge their 48-22 loss at Pill Parks.
Fishguard & Goodwick v Cefneithin
Fishguard are desperate to get some serious match-play under their belts after pre-Christmas postponements and will be doubly eager on Saturday since their only loss was a 15-6 defeat at Cefneithin.
Verdict: Since then the Seagulls have won all nine matches played and they should make it ten on the trot here.
