Milford Haven Golf Club scoop ‘super six’ double
Congratulations to Milford Haven Golf Club on winning a superb double by taking both the Super Six Championship and the Super Six Foursomes Championship in 2011, writes Richard Scott.
During the morning’s semi finals Milford Haven were able to defeat Ashburnham 4-2 whilst Haverfordwest were able to defeat Tenby 3.5 - 2.5 to set up a local derby final between Milford & Haverfordwest.
Leading the way in the final was Simon Harries (Haverfordwest) and current county champion Elliot Harding (Milford), Elliot found his magical form in defeating Harries 4 and 3 to give Milford a healthy head start. Second out of the blocks for Milford was county player Shaun Dyson who played former Welsh international Richard Scott, with both players fighting to the end and sharing the point on offer.
Calum MacDougal (Haverfordwest) was out next playing county player Emlyn Williams; with both players on top of their game, honours were again even at the last green with a half point each. Match number four had the experience of Lyndon Brown (Milford), who was able to defeat Alan Spencer on the 16th hole, thus giving Milford the edge by 3/1 with only two matches remaining.
Former Welsh JNR International Mikey Harries was as always on sparkling form for Haverfordwest, defeating the Milford stalwart John Roberts 3 and 2, leaving only one match out there. But Milford’s county player Jason Edwards was able to get revenge over Anthony Thomas (Haverfordwest) with a 3 and 2 win to give Milford the 4-2 win that took them to the coveted silverware.
Super Six Foursomes Championship:
Milford continued their excellent form by winning the Super Six Foursomes & beating an extremely tough and youthful Ashburnham Golf Club. Wins on the day were for the County’s duo of Emlyn Williams and Jason Edwards, who beat Bobby Phillips and Elliot Anderson by 7 and 6. Ashburnham were able to bounce back by winning the second match with an impressive win from Devlin Leach and Steffan Jones in beating the experienced pair of John Roberts & Shaun Dyson by 2 and 1. The final game was a real nail biter with the Milford Haven pair of Simon Nicholas and Tom Hughes defeating Darren Bowen & Justin Nicholas on the final green to win by one up.
Congratulations Milford Haven Super Six Team!
