Fixtures 10th December 2011
(..to results page for these fixtures..)With there being a curtailed programme of matches because of the three Swalec Competitions, the competition between PembrokeshireSport.co.uk and Milford Haven ex-patriot Bruce Evans, now comfortably domiciled in France, has been held over until next Saturday, when there is a full programme for the Pembrokeshire clubs in the National Leagues. So get your pencil sharpened and your crystal ball polished, Mr Evans!
WRU Cup - Round One:
Narberth v Treorchy
When the National Leagues started Treorchy were regular visitors to the Lewis Lloyd Ground but are now fifth in Division One (East), having won seven of their 13 games. Verdict: I have long maintained that the Division One (East) section is a little tougher and so in going for a Treorchy win over the Otters my theory might be tested to the full!
Whitland v Carmarthen Athletic
This is a real local derby where both teams will be eager to make progress at the expense of their near neighbours, especially since they are currently fourth and fifth respectively in Division One (West). Verdict: The Borderers beat the Athletic 10-5 at home recently and I think they can repeat that success if they play to form.
WRU Plate – Round Two:
Crymych v Cardigan
Another local derby in prospect here where Cardigan will travel to Parc Lloyd Thomas hoping to lower the colours of near neighbours Crymych, who are now in a section higher than the Teifisiders. Verdict: Cardigan are a useful side in Division Three (West) but the Preseli Men are beginning to find form as key players return, so I have to go for a home win here!
Haverfordwest v Tenby United
This could be another tough tussle where both sides will be eager to claim the bragging rights over the other, with the Blues as favourites but with the Seasiders capable of playing better than their league position would suggest. Verdict: I think the Blues will win but with a far closer margin than one might think.
WRU Bowl – Round Three:
Milford Haven v St Clears
St Clears are enjoying a good season in Division Five (West), with eight wins and a draw from ten starts, but face a Milford Haven side full of confidence as they sit in third place a section higher and with eight wins from their ten league matches. Verdict: It has to be Mackie’s Boys for me, as long as they are not over-confident and play to their strengths!
Pembroke v Tycroes
Pembroke will be glad of home advantage as they take on a Tycroes side which is top of the table in Division Five (South-East) as a result of gaining nine wins from 11 outings so far. Verdict: The Scarlets will be in confident mood after their KO Cup success but this will be a big hurdle for them – although I think they can still do it if they are at full strength!
Division Five (West):
Fishguard & Goodwick v Bynea
On paper, this is the easiest match of the day because Fishguard & Goodwick are in the promotion race in Division Five (West) whilst visiting Bynea have a 100% loss record from ten matches in the same section, with only two bonus points from their efforts. Verdict: As I’ve said occasionally before – if the Seagulls lose this I will eat my hat!
