Ben Stone finished second best to The ExpertBattling Ben’s brave attempt in vain

A battling attempt by Ben Stone at making up lost ground in the final session of his four-week challenge against The Expert saw the popular programme manager, presenter and general ‘Mr Nice Guy’ finally fall by the wayside as our resident ‘Mr Grumpy’ maintained his three-point lead from the previous weekend.

Said The Expert after his victory on Saturday night,

“Mr Stone has featured the challenge a number of times on his radio shows, especially on that Friday Night Sports Show with Bill Carne, who warned him about being over-confident after the little feller had had the cheek to take a single-point lead and gloat about it.

“But I fought back to level matters and really slammed him in week three when I took a fully deserved three-point advantage into the final round. He was never going to come back from that deficit although I give him every credit because he didn’t collapse under pressure, or fall for my offer of a preview of my forecasts for the last week.

“Considering the fact that he is from Carmarthenshire, I think he did quite well under the circumstances and I will allow him a rematch next season if he behaves himself in the meanwhile – and admits on that show that he was definitely second best to a real Expert!

“I did consider giving him a tee-shirt and inking in ‘almost’ in ‘I beat The Expert’ but that would be cruel so I’ll keep the tee-shirt handy for 2012-13 season – although I doubt he’ll do much better then, unless I have a real loss of my form in the tipping stakes!”

** Since there is inevitably disruption to the football over the Christmas period The Expert now intends resting his little grey brain cells until the New Year, when he will happily take on all-comers who think they can out-forecast our ace tipster! **
