Beat the Expert - Week 4 : fixtures for 3rd December 2011
The Expert clinches victory despite finishing all square with Tiny Ben
Radio Pembrokeshire presenter Ben Stone drew 6-6 with The Expert in their final week of predictions, but finally lost overall by an 21-18 margin. The Expert held onto his priceless three points winning margin and that was really too much for Tiny Ben to realistically catch him up. "The boy did good," said The Expert. "He showed a lot of character in his final set of predictions. I enjoyed the challenge from the county's number one DJ and I look forward to giving him another chance to beat me next season. Bring on the next mug!”
Tiny Ben crashes as The Expert shows his class!
Ben Stone might be ‘Top of the Pops’ on Radio Pembrokeshire but the station’s ultra-popular programme manager, presenter, local personality and general ‘Mr Nice Guy’ suffered a massive blow to his announced aim of winning an ‘I Beat The Expert’ tee-shirt as week three saw him fall three points adrift of our regular ‘Not So Nice Guy’!
Ben scored four points but was understandably aghast when he saw that The Expert had amassed seven points, including the correct forecasting of two games!
Our resident ‘Mr Grumpy’ was typically up-beat when he told us,
“That young whipper-snapper made a big mistake when he took a one-point lead in the first week and was a bit too cocky for my liking.
“Did he really think that I would let him win after that – no chance!
“I suggest he gets out of that comfy armchair or sofa, or whatever he calls it at the County Show, and watches local football as I do, then I might give him a rematch next year.
“In the meanwhile, his only chance this week is in the West Wales Cup because at least he’ll know a lot of the other teams a lot better than he does our local sides, what with him being a Carmarthenshire boy.
“Now I’m going to put even more pressure on him by doing the same as I did with Chris Tansey – and offer to let him see my predictions before he hands his over. If he doesn’t see them he’s got no chance – he knows that. But if he accepts then any success would bound to be hollow – and just think how much better I’ll feel if he still loses!”
** EDITOR:
Ben Stone is a bonny fighter and he immediately refused The Expert’s ‘generous’ offer because he is a battler to the end! **
So we’ll see how things pan out this Saturday. Remember the format – there is one point for a correct forecast and a bonus point for getting the scoreline correct!
Tiny Ben’s Forecasts:
Division One:
Clarbeston Road 1 - Pennar Robins 3
Clarby slipped up last week against Milford in a match I thought they would win, so this time around I will go for Pennar.Narberth 3 - Milford United 0
I am backing Narberth here, although Milford were impressive last time out.Neyland 0 - Merlins Bridge 4
The Bridge are full of goals at the moment and I am tipping them to carry that on.Solva 1 - Haverfordwest County 1
Tough one to predict here - so I will go with a draw.West Wales Cup - Round Three:
Camford 2 - Tenby 0
A tricky away game for Tenby and I think they will find it a tough one to overcome.Goodwick United 1 - Hakin United 2
This is an all Pembrokeshire clash and a really difficult one to call. On paper Hakin would be favourites and Goodwick have gone out of one cup competition already recently. However Hakin are taking this competition seriously this year and for that reason I am tipping them to edge it.Johnston 0 - Swansea Dockers 2
I think this will be closely contested but the Dockers look a useful side.St Clears 2 - Johnstown 1
There is always an upset in the Cup and I have called it right before - Johnstown leak goals and St Clears are going well in the third tier of Pembrokeshire Football. So here we go, this is the upset...West Dragons 1 - Kilvey 4
Kilvey are top of their league and this is going to be a real test for the Dragons. I have to go for an away win here.Ynysmeudwy Athletic 3 - Monkton Swifts 0
This is no easy task for the Swifts and I think they well bow out in Ynysmeudwy.Remember the format – there is one point for a correct forecast and a bonus point for getting the scoreline correct!”
