Haverfordwest Gymnasts show their class

Successful Haverfordwest gymnasts. Haverfordwest Gymnastics club took a very strong squad of 19 gymnasts to the West Area Novice Championships in Swansea and did extremely well. The standard of this competition was phenomenal with huge entries seen in each age group. 

In the 8-9 years category Katie Richards, Louise Mear, Ellie-Mai James, Lowri Boorman, Josie Dodd and Lauren Watts finished the team competition in 5th place. Lowri Boorman came 5th on bars and Ellie Mai James came 7th on vault. Josie Dodd was awarded an individual bronze medal on vault. Lauren Watts was our highest overall individual, finishing in 10th position and just missing out on a medal on bars by finishing in 4th place.

Terrific performances

The club had two teams competing in the 10/11 age group. Zoe Phillips, Lauren Smith and Katie Crimmins finished in 7th position and there was huge success for Emily Miline, Ella Phillips, Hawys Davies and Sara Storrow who were crowned the 10/11 West Area Team Champions. Ella Phillips came 6th on vault and 9th on beam and 8th overall, Emily Miline was positioned 8th on bars and 10th overall, Hawys Davies achieved a bronze medal on vault, 5th position on bars, 10th on beam and 7th overall. Sara Storrow excelled in this age group gaining a bronze medal on vault, 4th position on bars, 5th place on floor and was crowned overall silver medallist.

Successful Haverfordwest gymnasts. In the 12/13 age group Ceri Evans was awarded 3rd place on bars and came 7th overall. Sara Cox came 6th on bars, 4th on beam and was awarded the overall 6th position. Mared Cooke was also very successful achieving a bronze medal on vault, 4th place on bars, 6th place on beam and floor and was awarded the overall 5th position.

However, it was the 14+ gymnasts (Bethan Rees, Joanna Weedon and Sophie Storrow) that saw the greatest results. Bethan Rees was positioned 4th on vault, 6th on bars, 3rd on beam, 6th on floor and awarded the overall 4th position. Joanna Weedon came 3rd on vault, 2nd on bars, was crowned beam champion, and overall picked up the silver trophy. Sophie Storrow was positioned 2nd on vault, floor and beam and was also crowned bars champion. Sophie was also crowned overall 14+ Novice Champion. With such fantastic results it was without a doubt Bethan, Joanna and Sophie would also be awarded the gold in the team competition also.
