Fixtures 26th November 2011
(..to results page for these fixtures..)
Two last-ditch scores helped Bruce Evans gain another point verdict over Bill Carne and left our resident tipster spitting feathers about the fact that the games this weekend are between sides from the top against teams from the bottom so there are few chances of finding surprise results. The final scores were Bruce Evans (9) and Bill Carne (8)
As a result, the tipping duo have gone for the same teams, other than the Crymych v Builth Wells tussle and so it will be interesting to see whether their safety first policies pay off with high scores – but with little change possible to the overall scores!
Division One (West):
Whitland v Bonymaen
BC: This is fourth against 11th and should be a ‘no contest’, with the Borderers winning with something in hand.
BE: A very good win for the Borderers last week, and they must take advantage of Bonymaen’s poor season and take the three points this Saturday. A Whitland win.
Tondu v Narberth
BC: Bottom against second here so that although Tondu have home advantage the Otters will be targeting this as a bonus point win.
BE: A comfortable win last week. Can the Otters make it four out of four? Confidence should be high and it’s a game they must win if they want to be at the top come April. A Narberth win.
Division Two (West):
Crymych v Builth Wells
BC: Crymych are gradually getting back to something like full strength and I hope that they can just about grab the verdict here – although I know that is my heart ruling my head!
BE: Last week must have been a big disappointment, and I can’t see Crymych doing better against a good mid table team. A Builth win.
Division Three (West):
Haverfordwest v Cardigan
BC: This could be a cracking match between two teams who like to play good rugby – but with home advantage it has to be Haverfordwest.
BE: It sounds as though the Blues are going through a difficult patch, performance wise, but if you win when you’re not playing so well it augurs well for the season as a whole. The Blues won at Cardigan in the first game of the season and must be favourites to do the double. A Blues win.
Tenby United v Gorseinon
BC: Tenby are only two positions above Gorseinon but are beginning to find some form as players return to action. They are only two places above Gorseinon but I think they will win comfortably.
BE: A few years ago Tenby made a dismal start to the season, then turned things around and gained promotion. They certainly enjoyed a big win last week and I now expect them take that confidence and get a third win out of three. A Tenby win.
Division Four (West):
Amman United v Neyland
BC: Neyland played really well at home to Burry Port but don’t seem to travel well – so I have to go for a win for promotion-chasing Amman United.
BE: Delme Bateman told me the Blacks would win before the match last Saturday, and they won in style, but they’ll have to seek their next points elsewhere because I think Amman United away is too big an ask. An Amman victory.
Milford Haven v Trimsaran
BC: Mackie’s boys will be to strong and skilful for Trimsaran and will win their eighth game from 10 starts!
BE: The manner of the win over Llanybydder was a real eye opener; six tries and few points conceded. I hear the grounds are still firm over there and I expect the Mariners to run in some more tries on the Obs this Saturday to keep them in contention for promotion, with the top two to come at home after Xmas. A Milford win.
Division Five (West):
Llangwm v Fishguard & Goodwick
BC: The Seagulls should prove too strong for a relatively inexperienced Llangwm outfit and I can only go for a Seagulls’ success.
BE: Whilst I think Llangwm will give the Seagulls a run for their money early on, I can only see an away win here. A Fishguard victory.
Pembroke v Bynea
BC: Pembroke are a useful side, especially at Crickmarren whilst Bynea have lost nine out of nine so far. If the Scarlets lose this one I would be more than surprised!
BE: A good win last week and back on their home patch I expect another Pembroke victory. Wish I was there because Pembroke was always one of the most welcoming club houses.
Pontyates v Pembroke Dock Harlequins
BC: Just two places separate these teams but the Quins are playing with confidence now and they will win this one – no doubt about it!
BE: The Quins put in a good performance last week and I think they’ll be too good for Pontyates, even away from home. It’s the Quins for me.
St Clears v St Davids
BC: Carmarthenshire Saints versus Pembrokeshire Saints and sadly I can see only one result – a win for St Clears!
BE: St. Davids are not playing as well as this time last year and I have to go for St. Clears to keep the pressure on the top teams in Five (West).
