Festival’s feast of football

Twelve teams took part in the recent Pembrokeshire Secondary Schools Disability Football Festival held at Tenby Leisure Centre, representing schools at Portfield, Bro Gwaun, Dewi Sant, Pembroke (Bush) and Pembroke Autistic Centre.

The matches were played in three age groups: over 16, under 16 and under 14. The over 16 winners were Portfield Panthers A, while The Saints IV and The Saints III were winners and runners-up respectively of the under 16 group.  Fishguard Warriors won the under 14 age group with Saints II as runners-up.

Pembrokeshire representatives

These teams will now go on to represent Pembrokeshire at the regional disability festival in Swansea in March.

The winning teams were presented with medals sponsored by Valero and presented by the company’s public affairs assistant, Anna Raggett.

All the players received certificates from Debbie Wise, Pembrokeshire County Council’s football development officer, and Richard Williams, of the Welsh Schools’ Football Association.

Angela is delighted

Angela Miles, the County Council’s disability development officer, was delighted with the standard of football on display.

“We hope that some of the players who participated in the festival will now join the Cleddau Warriors football club which plays in the South West Wales Disability League” she said.

The games were refereed by David Williams and Owen Jones, whilst Rhys Eynon of Pembrokeshire College provided valuable support on the day.
