Beat the Expert - Week 4 : fixtures for 5th November 2011
The Expert wins so there's no tee shirt for Crafty Chris Tansey
Despite Crafty Chris drawing 6-6 with The Expert. He narrowly lost 23-21 overall in the final week of predictions. The pair impressively forecasted six from nine results right, but it wasn't enough for Crafty Chris to claim an 'I beat The Expert' tee-shirt. "It's no consolation but Crafty Chris has improved," said The Expert. "But he knows deep down but won't admit it (like in his Hakin hey day) that I am simply the best. His miserable afternoon was complete when my team Manchester United beat Sunderland 1-0 at Old Trafford. A Wes Brown (ManU through and through) own goal sunk his team." Crafty Chris has been a good sport and The Expert can't wait to take him on again next season - because as he says it's “like taking candy from a baby!”
Mr T given a chance by our sporting Expert!
The Expert and our special guest, Mr Chris Tansey, of Manderwood Timber Engineering Ltd, last Saturday shared 14 points in a high scoring tipsters’ draw and our resident ‘Mr Grumpy’ has shown a rare glimpse of sporting humanity this week.
He has agreed to show Mr T his predictions before his rival chooses his score lines in four first division league games and five matches from the West Wales Cup – something that has never happened before!!
“With all the hoo-ha about what’s going on in the game I love at national and local levels I have decided to be a beacon light in football and show that winning isn’t everything, especially in Pembrokeshire. So I am going to show my respect (and a little bit of sympathy) for Mr T by making this gesture, even if it means that PembrokeshireSport.co.uk will have to stump up for another ‘I Beat the Expert’ tee shirt as a result.”
The Expert told us,
“I repeat what I said before, though. I am still very confident that my superior judgement under pressure will prove too much for a man who uses his employees to do much of the research on matches, especially in West Wales. Mr T can study form all he likes, sitting in that posh loo in Manderwood’s and his even posher one at home – but I fully expect to still be ahead come Saturday evening, when he will be poshing it up at Old Trafford watching his Sunderland side getting smashed by my Red Devils!”
Mr T was surprised to be offered a little gentle help in trying to win our ‘I Beat the Expert’ tee-shirt but after giving the matter some thought he declined The Expert’s offer.
“I’m sure it is part of The Expert’s psychological plan and if I accepted and won he would say it was a hollow victory – and if I lost he would be able to gloat even more.
“He’s right that I will be watching Manchester United (his team) take on my long-time favourites (Sunderland) and I’m hoping there will be two shock results on Saturday, with me and the team from the town where I was born finishing on top!”
Remember the format – there is one point for a correct forecast and a bonus point for getting the scoreline correct!”
Division One Matches (Results to appear here on Saturday evening):
Division One:
Clarbeston Road 4 - Haverfordwest County 7
Merlins Bridge 3 - Pennar Robins 1
Neyland 1 - Narberth 0
Solva 2 - Hundleton 5
West Wales Cup:
Goodwick United 5 - Gorseinon 1
Johnston 8 - Hook 0
Milford United 1 - Hakin United 2
Monkton Swifts 6 - Felinfoel 1
Tenby 8 - Park Travellers 0
Crafty Chris’s Forecasts:
Division One:
Clarbeston Road 3 - Haverfordwest County 1
Clarbie were slammed last weekend but are a useful side at home. They can score goals and I think that Haverfordwest County seem to be struggling at the moment.Merlins Bridge 3 - Pennar Robins 2
Pennar Robins are a good side and will push Merlins Bridge all the way – but the Bridge are consistent at home and the Robins aren’t used to playing on a pitch like The Racecourse!Neyland 2 - Narberth 1
My only reason to be swayed her was home advantage because these sides look well-matched, although Neyland are in quite good form at present.Solva 3 - Hundleton 1
Same again here – Solva are used to their sloping pitch and Hundleton seem to be in a bit of a bad run of luck – and I think they could win by two goalsWest Wales Cup:
Goodwick United 3 - Gorseinon 1
I think Goodwick will be too strong at Phoenix Park against a Gorseinon side which is in mid table in the Carms League. It’s a big thing to win away in this Cup and I think Goodwick will win by at least two goals.Johnston 5 - Hook 0
On paper this should be a certainty as Hook make the short trip to Glebelands looking for a huge upset. It has to be Johnston and there should be a wide margin.Milford United 0 - Hakin United 4
This local derby sees Hakin as hot favourites, although the Robins beat them pre-season in the Joe Lennon Cup. But this is a different kettle of fish, although I don’t think it was be the huge margin that some might expect.Monkton Swifts 3 - Felinfoel 1
Felinfoel will find it hard going at Monkton Lane because the Swifts are strong there – and should get through by two goals.Park Travellers 3 - Tenby 1
It’s the same here – I think home advantage will be vital as Park Travellers are currently second in the Neath Premier League. Tenby will be looking to make progress but I think they might bow out here!
