Rugby Forecasts

Fixtures for 29th October 2011

(..to results page for these fixtures..)

Division One (West):

Another week of mixed fortunes for this rugby follower as I got eight results right but was still off target with another three – and still couldn’t get both Narberth and Whitland correct in the same week!

So it’s back to the drawing board for Saturday, when there are plenty of tricky score lines in prospect, especially from the three local derbies – but I am still hoping for my first 100% success of the season!

Narberth v Whitland
Surely the most difficult match of the season to predict between these old rivals because although Whitland are playing with a little more consistency they lost at home last Saturday and Narberth, now just a position below them, won well away. Verdict: This is one I should definitely sit on the fence with but I’ll go for the Otters with home advantage.

Division Two (West):

Aberavon Quins v Crymych
Crymych played really well against Aberystwyth but were denied in the final minutes but now travel to an Aberavon Quins’ side which is in seventh place, with four wins from seven starts. Verdict: The Quins are reputedly a big and physically strong side so, sadly, I have to go for them to beat the Preseli Men!

Division Three (West):

Haverfordwest v Penclawdd
A big match this for undefeated Haverfordwest as they entertain Penclawdd, who have lost just once in seven league games and are currently in third place. Verdict: Penclawdd beat Cardigan last weekend but I’ll still go for the Blues and their attacking brand of rugby.

Cardigan v Lampeter
This could be another hard-fought contest with Cardigan sixth and Lampeter just below them. Both are known for playing entertaining rugby so it should be a good game to watch. Verdict: I’ll go for the Teifisiders to bounce back to winning ways!

Pontarddulais v Tenby United
This is another tough tussle for the Seasiders as they make the journey to Pontarddulais in search of their second success of the campaign against a Bont team which is currently bottom of the table with a draw and six defeats. Verdict: This is a must-win fixture for Tenby if they are to stay in this section and I think they can do it.

Division Four (West):

Laugharne v Milford Haven
The Mariners were let down by their opposition last weekend so will be eager to get back on track at Laugharne, who are currently seventh, with three wins and four defeats. Verdict: The Mariners will win this win, if they travel with the right ‘heads’ on!

Trimsaran v Neyland
Neyland were desperately unlucky to lose at home to Llanybydder and now travel to Trimsaran looking to redress the balance. Verdict: ‘Trim’ have won only twice in seven starts so the All Blacks will target this as a chance to pick up points, but it will be hard going unless they are on top form!

Division Five (West):

Fishguard & Goodwick v Pembroke
Pembroke and Fishguard are good sides in this section and a tough battle seems in prospect if both are strong on the day. Verdict: The Seagulls are useful at home and I think they might just squeeze through at The Moors – but it will be close!

Pembroke Dock Quins v Llangwm
The Quins have won their last two matches and will be looking for a hat-trick against a Llangwm side which started the season well but has been hit by injuries. Verdict: It’s three in a row for the homesters!

St Davids v Bynea
St Davids are bottom of the table, without a win from seen matches so far, but now play Bynea, who are just above them in the table with six defeats in six starts. Verdict: This is a great chance for the Saints to get off the mark and I hope they get the win they deserve for all their efforts.
