Fixtures for 22nd October 2011
(..to results page for these fixtures..)Division One (West):
Whitland v Tata Steel
This is another real tester for Whitland because they face fourth-placed Tata Steel, who have won five out of seven matches so far, including a 26-16 home win over Bonymaen last Saturday. Verdict: The Borderers will be eager to remain top dogs in the section and so I go for a narrow Borderers’ victory with home advantage!Bonymaen v Narberth
Narberth looked a very good side at home to Ammanford last weekend as they ran in no fewer than seven tries and so they must look to beat a Bonymaen side that has won just twice in seven starts. Verdict: The Otters are not consistent at the moment but I have to go for them to win this one.Division Two (West):
Crymych v Aberystwyth
Crymych beat Aberystwyth in last year’s KO Cup Final and the Mid Wales side are just above the Preseli Men in 11th place, having won just once in seven matches. Verdict: I really hope that this will see the Preseli men claim their first success of the season – but they will have to play well!Division Three (West):
Gorseinon v Haverfordwest
Haverfordwest have pouched 27 points from their six wins on the trot but they will travel to Gorseinon, currently in tenth place and having just six points, in the knowledge that away games are never easy at this level. Verdict: I think it will be played seven, won seven for the Blues after this tussle!Tenby United v Llandeilo
Tenby United entertain third-placed Llandeilo knowing that they need to get a few wins under their belts after some recent disappointments and they will be looking to achieve their second win of the season here. Verdict: It’s not going to be easy for the Seasiders against a well-organised side like Llandeilo and although I hope they might win I think I must go for an away success!Penclawdd v Cardigan
One of the tougher matches to predict is this one as Penclawdd are in fourth place, just a point ahead of Cardigan but with a game in hand. Verdict: The Cardis are playing quite well but with home advantage I have to go for The Cocklemen!Division Four (West):
Milford Haven v Furnace
Milford Haven led Hendy by 61-3 with only 15 minutes left last Saturday but allowed the home side to come back with 28 more points in a match which ended up 75-31 – but the Mariners will find Furnace a different kettle of fish because they are in second spot with just one defeat from six games. Verdict: The Mariners are capable of beating any side in the section on their day and I hope this is one of them because I’ll take a chance on Mackie’s Boys!Neyland v Llanybydder
Neyland won their first match of the season last Saturday and now have the chance of a second success as they play host to Llanybydder, only two places above the All Blacks in the table. Verdict: I have a feeling that it will be win No 2 for the homesters!Division Five (West):
Pembroke v Cefneithin
Pembroke disappointed at Swansea Uplands but will be looking to bounce back with victory at home to third-placed Cefneithin, who are currently third with five wins from six starts. Verdict: The Scarlets have lost twice in their six matches so far and coach Ossie Boswell will be looking for another win – but I won’t be surprised if Cefneithin sneak it.Penygroes v Llangwm
After two heavy defeats Llangwm will be hoping for the return of some key players for their trip to Penygroes because they have identical 50% win records and the Wasps can beat their opponents with a full squad. Verdict: On current form – it has to be a Penygroes win!Pontyates v Fishguard
After two inactive weeks because of opposing teams being unable to field a side, Fishguard will be glad to be back in action at Pontyates, especially since their opposition are lingering at the foot of the table without a win. Verdict: If the Seasiders lose this game I’ll eat my hat!St Davids v Pembroke Dock Quins
A Pembrokeshire Derby is always hard to predict but the Quins opened their win account last weekend whilst the Saints are still looking for the boost of a win after six league losses on the bounce. Verdict: It could well be back-to-back victories for the Quins, unless the Saints have a very full squad to choose from!
