Pembroke Cricket Club recently held its Annual Awards Presentation evening at the Coach House Hotel, Pembroke and was well attended by members, sponsors, former players and friends of the club. Everyone enjoyed a superb meal and the company of each other with one common purpose, supporting Pembroke Cricket Club.
The speaker for the evening was Mr David Williams the Club President, who spoke about the club history and achievements, including past and current players.
This year saw Pembroke field teams in Division 3 and 5 and as the season progressed both teams were poised at the top of the table.
Pembroke first team was a young team, ably lead from the front by Sean Powell, the youngest captain in all the six divisions and who proved to be an inspiration to the team. Pembroke first team ended the season as Third Division Champions and deservedly returned to the second division for the 2012 season.
The second team, under the innovative captaincy of Simon Smith –Wrench, fielded a team which consisted of a mixture of senior and junior players. The team was in contention for the top spot for most of the season, and battled all the way to the final bell.
The following cups were presented:-
Highest number of runs scored in the season was won by Sean Powell, who also received the trophy for the highest score in a single game.
The most wickets taken in the season was again Sean Powell, although the best individual bowling performance was won by Josh Reed-Harrison. On the fielding front the cup for the most catches taken in the season also went to Sean Powell.
With the first team being Division Three champions the Division Three Cup was presented to the first team captain Sean Powell by one of the club’s main sponsors, Jayne Smith.
One of the most important trophies is the cup for the Youth Player of the Year. This year’s winner was 15year old Jack Harries, who started the season playing in the second team, and was guided by the senior players which included his father Spencer Harries.
There was also a special award as the Second team captain Simon Smith-Wrench was presented with a framed score sheet, which contained the details of an opening partnership of 194 between Don Patel and Ashley Davies, which is the highest opening partnership in the club’s history.
