Skipper Ritchie tops Narberth awards

Narberth Cricket Club recently held their annual awards lunch at the Plas Hyfryd Hotel in the town, with skipper Ritchie Adams deservedly receiving the ‘First Team Player of the Year’ award for his terrific batting, which included an undefeated century against St Ishmaels.

He also received a framed copy of the innings where he scored 102 not out against Tish, and the warmth of applause for his selection as player of the year showed what an impact he made during the season.

The lunch had club chairman Huw Simkins as MC, with Bill Carne of PembrokeshireSport.co.uk as guest speaker, and with special guests in sponsors Mansel and Carol Young (Young Brothers), plus Paul and Beverley Harries (GD Harries & Son).

Others who received framed scorecards for their centuries during the season were teenager Sam Mills, for his three figures in the opening game of the season against Kilgetty, Paul Phillips, whose only appearance of the season on the last day saw him score 102 not out against Whitland Thirds, and Aaron Keane who reached his ‘ton’ whilst sharing a club record stand of 178.

Awards galore

Mike Williams was chosen as the ‘Second Team Player of the Year’ whilst Daniel Hughes (Jnr) was the ‘Third XI Player of the Year’. Other awards went to Tim Mills (Most Improved Player) and Jordan Howell (Junior Achievement Award) – and there was a special ‘70 Not Out’ award made by Colin Williams to Nick Evans to mark the latter reaching that age milestone whilst still playing a key role for the club seconds as an off-spin bowler (who took 24 wickets) and useful boundary fielder! The ‘Chairman’s Award’ went to Brian Toms for his yeoman work in fund-raising..

Club vice-chairman Ian Hughes gave a resume of the season at senior level and Hon Sec Richard Howell gave a report of all the junior cricket activity, with Ian and Marc Hughes completing an excellent celebration of the season by making a surprise presentation to their parents, Nina and Peter, to mark their parents’ 35th wedding anniversary!.
