Beat the Expert - Week 4
8th October 2011
Mighty Micky Phillips keeps his cool to easily beat The Expert
Mighty Micky Phillips came out on top again after Saturday's set of predictions. Phillips narrowly won 9-8, impressively predicting two right scores, and winning overall by a 26-22 total. "I don't like admitting it - but he certainly did his homework and deservedly came out on top," said the beaten Expert. "He got on top and it's always difficult to claw back a deficit - but he kept his cool and got his just rewards." Mighty Micky is the only pundit in the County who has an unbeaten tag against The Expert - but The Expert has vowed. "Every dog has his day and if he excepts to take me on again - I'll be ready for him!"
‘Mighty Micky’s’ got
The Expert good and mad!
Mighty Micky Phillips used his extensive knowledge of football in Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire to take what looks like being a decisive four-point lead into the last week of his tipping duel with The Expert.
At first our resident ‘Mr Grumpy, was very complimentary about Mighty Micky’s success but that lasted about an hour before he was muttering darkly about making that particular week null and void since he realised he had been outflanked by someone who sees these teams as a referee ‘up the line’. Fortunately for Micky we over-ruled our ace tipster, soothing his dented ego by saying that he still had a week to go when there was again a level playing field and he could fight back.
But things went from bad to worse when some stirrer in local football told The Expert that it wasn’t Micky who was the main tipster but those two old war-horses Gary Stephens and Micky ‘The Italian Stallion’ Algieri, who were with him watching Carmarthen Town beat Airbus 3-1 in the Welsh Premier League last Saturday, where they were spotted poring over piles of paper and fixture lists at half time!
It looks like it’s all over but write The Expert off at his peril – he is determined to claw his way back against ‘Mr Nice Guy’ whom our resident pundit says might just not be as nice as he seems after all!

Mighty Micky’s Forecasts:
Senior Cup
Angle 1 - Hakin United 6
The sides have met once before in the senior cup back in 1977 when Hakin won 6-1. I can’t really see Angle being able to stop the Hakin juggernaut and will go for a comfortable away winClarbeston Road 1 - Goodwick United 3
The sides have already met each other twice in the league with the sides drawing 2-2 at Clarby, and Goodwick winning the return fixture. As a result I’ll go for an away win.Fishguard Sports 1 - Solva 3
Fishguard may be in division 4 but they are on an excellent run having only lost once in seven league games. Solva on the other hand have only won once. A possible cup shock? Probably not but I expect it to be quite close.Haverfordwest County 1 - Tenby 2
The Seasiders had a tremendous result in the intermediate cup last week and I expect them to overcome last year’s senior cup runners up who have struggled in the league this year.Hundleton 4 - Hubberston 0
With Hundleton scoring nine last week you must fancy them to beat their third division opponents.Johnston 2 - St Ishmaels 1
Real tough one this with Tish sitting top of the second division and notoriously difficult to play against. However at the risk of upsetting Phil Devs I’ll go for repeat of the 1982 final score when my good friends Gary Stephens and Richard James scored for Johnston with Alan Proctor replying for Tish.Monkton Swifts 0 - Pennar Robins 2
When the sides met in the league two weeks ago I predicted a draw but the Robins won 3-0, so I’ll stick by them this week and go for a repeat score of their last senior cup game, the semi- final clash back in 2008.Narberth 1 - Merlins Bridge 2
The Bridge won 2-1 at Jesse Road two weeks ago and with both crashing out of the intermediate cup last week they’ll both be most anxious to retain an interest in the senior cup. I’ll go for a repeat score.Saundersfoot Sports 1 - Neyland 3
A tough trip for the first division side though their form has been excellent so far this season and I expect them to beat their division 2 opponents.St Clears 2 - Milford United 3
Another potential cup upset with the Saints unbeaten in division three and having considerably strengthened their squad from last year’s relegation. However Milford tasted cup success last week and I expect them to make progress to the next round. The Expert’s Scorecasts:
