Beat the Expert - Week 3
The Expert is thrashed by Micky Phillips who now is odds-on to win
Micky Phillips easily overcame the Expert to win 7-3 after their third week of predictions and he has now taken an impressive overall 17-13 lead going into the final week. "I've got to hand it to him he whooped my butt this week," confessed The Expert. "Refereeing in the Carmarthenshire League certainly gave him an edge over me - but no excuses. I'll now need a miracle next week - but let me remind Micky, miracles can and will happen!"
1st October 2011
The Expert and ‘Mighty Micky’ Phillips are still locked on 10 points apiece after the first two weeks of their tipping challenge and it a sure bet that our resident ‘Grumpy Old man’ is getting a little edgy because he isn’t used to such close exchanges.
“I used to think that Micky Phillips was as close to a friend from my football days as I had, along with Gary Stephens and Micky ‘The Italian Stallion’ Algieri. But it seems that he has been telling them, and his cronies in County Hall, that his greater research and looking back into the history of games, is sure to see him win.
“Well, let me tell Mr Phillips that all that sort of tosh counts for nothing in my book and this week, with all those West Wales Cup matches where he has gone for daft big scores, will see him undone.
“It’s a bit like my favourite team, Manchester United, taking on his rubbish Wolverhampton Wanderers’ side, there’s only going to be one winner!”
So check out the results on the weekend – and see if ‘Might Micky’ can beat ‘The Expert’ in this particular round of their battle royal!

Mighty Micky’s Forecasts:
Division One:
Clarbeston Road 3 - Hundleton 1
Clarby had a great win against Haverfordwest County last week whilst Hundleton have lost four on the bounce so I’ll have to go for a home win.Haverfordwest County 1 - Neyland 2
Neyland continue to impress whilst Haverfordwest’s season seems to be stuttering along. Last year the blues recorded the double over their opponents but on current form you have to fancy an away win.WWFA Intermediate Cup
Borough 1- Goodwick United 6
You have to fancy Goodwick United to win this one with their opponents sitting near the bottom of the Neath second division.Hakin United 5 - Glynneath Town 0
I expect the Vikings to be far too strong for their Neath opponents and will go for a comfortable home win.Johnston 3 - Resolven 1
Resolven sit top of the Neath first division and will no doubt test Johnston but I’ll go for a home win hoping that a possible trip away to Swansea in the next round will prove the required incentive for the homesters.Llangennech 0 - Merlins Bridge 4
In the only Carmarthenshire/Pembrokeshire clash I’ll go for a Bridge win as they are due a good run in the competition.Milford United 2 - Ynysygerwn 1
The Robins are pointless in the league this season and their opponents play in the second tier of the Neath league. I think home advantage may just prove enough to see the Robins through.Monkton Swifts 4 - Hafod Rangers 0
The Swifts came back to some form last week with an impressive win against Johnston. They should prove to be too good for their Swansea opponents
Narberth 2 - Cwmfelin Press 3
Probably the toughest result to predict in the first round with Cwmfelin playing their football in the Swansea first division, and Narberth proving very resilient this season. However history would favour the Swansea side and I’ll go for a narrow away win.
Penlan Club 3 - Tenby 1
Any trip to Swansea is difficult, especially when the side you are playing currently lie top of the first division. Tenby’s season hasn’t really kicked off so far and I can’t see them progressing to the next round.Pennar Robins 4 - St Josephs 1
St Joseph’s won the intermediate cup back in 2005-06 but currently play in the third division of the Swansea league. I expect the Robins to easily progress to the next round. The Expert’s Scorecasts:
