Fixtures for 1st October 2011

(..to results page for these fixtures..)

Not a bad weekend in the tipping stakes as only Narberth and Whitland let me down alongside Tenby, where I had tipped a narrow defeat for the Seasiders and they scored a last-gasp try for a draw!

The Otters were also denied in the closing stages and the Borderers had a bit of an off day against the students of UWIC but other than this blips I went through the rest of the nine matches without a blemish so things are looking up!

There are some intriguing matches in prospect on Saturday so here goes – and you are more than welcome to join me!

Division One (West);

Llanharan v Whitland
Llanharan are in tenth place and Whitland will feel they have something to prove here as they now sit in fifth spot. Verdict: It looks like being a tough tussle and although I would love to see the Borderers win I have a sneaky feeling that Llanharan might just edge home!

Narberth v Carmarthen Athletic
Matches between those old adversaries are usually close-fought and this should be no exception as Carmarthen Athletic have won three out of four games and the Otters have won just one. Verdict: Almost impossible to predict on current form but I’ll go for Narberth with home advantage!

Division Two (West):

Kenfig Hill v Crymych
Another might battle for Crymych as they still seek their first win after four starts and now travel to play a Kenfig Hill side that have won all four of their matches and picked up three bonus points! Verdict: It has to be Kenfig Hill on current form and playing at home.

Division Three (West):

Cardigan v Tenby United
Another Pembrokeshire derby and as such is hard to forecast. Cardigan are currently playing well whilst the Seasiders have not yet found last season’s rhythm after losing some key players. Verdict: I think the Teifisiders will win this one!

Division Four (West):

Milford Haven v Aberaeron
There have been some good battles between these two sides over recent years and they are respectively seventh and ninth in the table so this should be a close encounter of the rugby kind. Verdict: I go for The Mariners – and I think they will win with something in hand!

Neyland v Laugharne

Another two teams with old rivalries and something to prove this season. Laugharne have won twice from four starts whilst the All Blacks are still seeking that elusive first victory. Verdict: I hope the All Blacks can win this one and I choose them – but more in hope than anticipation!

Division Five (West):

Nantgaredig v Pembroke Dock Quins
Nantgaredig looked favourites for this section after impressive promotion last campaign but they have already twice – but the Quins are very much in a transition period and have lost all four matches so far. Verdict: It’s a pity but I can’t see beyond Nantgaredig to win at home.

Pembroke v Llangwm
A real local derby between two sides who have traditionally enjoyed meeting each other for the Palmer Cup, with the Scarlets winning three out of four starts – but with the Wasps also matching that record and full of confidence. Verdict: I think Pembroke’s pack will be too powerful and experienced, so I have to pick the home side.

St Davids v Fishguard
Another local derby where the Seagulls Cup is up for grabs as well as precious league points. St Davids have yet to win a league game but beat Llangwm in the KO Cup, whilst Fishguard have won three times from four starts. Verdict: It has to be Fishguard to win, perhaps with a bonus point as well because the Saints are strapped for players at the moment.
