Busy lot at the Conygar Bridge Meadow Stadium!

At their recent Annual General Meeting the Supporters Club of Haverfordwest County AFC elected its officers and committee for what is proving to be another eventful season at the Conygar Bridge Meadow Stadium.

Haverfordwest County Supporters' Club Committee:Alan aims high for the Bluebirds

Elected unopposed as new chairman was Alan Thomas, the popular postman from Haverfordwest, who has been supporting the Bluebirds since he met his wife Mandy and moved to the county town. Je gives 100% support to the club as he works hard in keeping the grass surrounds tidy and doing any cleaning jobs necessary, as well as working behind the bar on match days. Alan and Mandy also supply the legendary coffee, tea, salmon sandwiches, cake and Jaffa Cakes as half time refreshment for visitors and home officials, as well as helping in the coffee bar – and he attends almost all the away matches as well.

“I am honoured to be chairman of the supporters committee and I am very lucky to have such a strong committee to work with”, he told PembrokeshireSport.co.uk.

Alan loves the Blues

Vice chairman is Alan Adams, another committed supporter since he moved into the area from Bristol some 13 years ago.

“I used to support Bristol Rovers, where I was a season ticket holder, and so I needed a team in a blue strip to support when we moved here. I was made very welcome from the outset and there is a great atmosphere amongst the regulars at our club.”

Alan also acts as a steward on home match days, has attended all the away games so far this season to some new grounds for him – and he uses his carpentry skills to good effect at the Conygar Bridge Meadow Stadium when odd jobs are needed!

Barry’s been going for 50 years

The Hon Secretary is another long-term supporter because Barry Webb has watched Haverfordwest County for almost 50 years as a boy and man, watching the second half of his first Welsh League match after going to a Saturday matinee in the local cinema. He was a local referee for 27 years and as well as his secretarial duties he has also taken on the match-day role of looking after the 13 stewards, all of whom have an NVQ, the referee and general crowd control. Not content with that little lot, Barry is also working on a book about the first 50 years of Haverfordwest County, with information researched by another great club man in Roy Morris!

David keeps a tight rein

David Lewis is the Hon Treasurer, using his skills as a bank worker to good effect. He is a very keen supporter from the Letterston area, as his son Dominic, and there is no doubt that the committee’s finances are in good order with David in control of them. He was born and bred in Milford Haven but after joining the bank moved into England and had trials with Southampton and Scunthorpe. David has been back in our county for over a decade now and is still very much a Bluebirds fan!

Kevin keeps busy

Local taxi man Kevin Haldane is the fund-raising co-ordinator and is always eager to put on events at the excellent facilities the club has to offer. A canny Scott from Falkirk, Kevin has been a keen supporter for a decade after first going there with former groundsman Dan Duffy. His other roles at the club include marking the pitch and checking the nets on match-day mornings, and running the club bar post-match – and he also drives the supporters’ bus to away matches to keep his hand in!

Eddie helps out anywhere

A key committee member is Eddie Bunston, whose roles at the club are many, working closely with club chairman Rob Summons and the secretaries on a day to day basis that includes maintaining supplies and generally looking after the stadium with Lenny Lewis. Eddie rarely misses a match, home or away, and is a real gent in terms of ferrying people home who are without transport after matches.

Terry travels well

The other committee member is Terry Jones, who hails from the Fishguard area and as the ‘Bonus Ball’ organiser also helps with raising funds. Terry travels to most matches and is also known for his fervent support of the Welsh football team, having travelled widely to watch them.

In good hands

The Association is clearly in good hands with so many active workers and its main activities are aimed at raising the profile of the club within the county and raising much-needed funds for the club through a series of events that include quizzes, bingo and social events. Membership is £10 for adults and £7 for OAPs. Benefits of membership include £1 off entry to home games, a 10% discount from the club shop and subsidised travel to away games.  To join see any committee member or ask for details at the bar or shop – you will be guaranteed a warm welcome from the Bluebirds Boys!
