Fixtures for 17th September 2011

(..to results page for these fixtures..)

Rugby Preview comes back after just two weeks for the teams to settle into their relevant sections and as usual we wish every Pembrokeshire team every success during the season.

In the last campaign we were about 85% correct with our tipping so it will be interesting to see how we get on.

If you fancy a short spell as a guest tipster then let us know!

Division One (West):

Whitland v Bridgend Athletic
After their drab draw to open the season, Whitland will have been boosted by their excellent result at Bonymaen so will be confident against Bridgend Athletic, who also beat Bonymaen but lost to Tata Steel.
Verdict: It should be close but I hope that home advantage will swing it the Borderers’ way!

Tata Steel v Narberth
Tata Steel have started their campaign with a narrow win over Bridgend Athletic and a more comfortable success against Tondu, but without gaining a bonus point in either game. Narberth showed what they could do last Saturday against Tondu but will need to play well against the Steelmen.
Verdict: I think the Otters might just swing it their way if they can win enough ball up front!

Division Two (West):

Skewen v Crymych
Crymych are on the road again to play a Skewen side which beat Aberystwyth 10-8 but lost 19-14 to Aberavon Quins, and the Preseli Men will be eager to get back to winning ways after two successive defeats.
Verdict: I hope Crymych prove me wrong because I think Skewen will win with home advantage here!

Division Three (West):

Haverfordwest v Newcastle Emlyn
Haverfordwest have made a cracking start with nine points from two matches and Newcastle Emlyn as visitors to Merlins Bridge have won one match but lost the other so know they will be in a battle.
Verdict: The Blues look a very good all-round side this campaign and I’m confident they will make it three wins from three starts!

Cardigan v Llandeilo
Cardigan lost in the last seconds at Newcastle Emlyn last Saturday and will be eager for their first win of the season as they play host to Llandeilo, who have won both their games so far.
Verdict: I have to follow the form book and tip the visitors but something tells me I could just be wrong if the Teifisiders are at full strength!

Lampeter v Tenby United
Tenby lost disappointingly at home last Saturday and now travel to Lampeter for another tough tussle against a side which, like them, have won one and lost one game.
Verdict: The Seasiders need a boost and I hope they win, but I think they will just be shaded out here!

Division Four (West):

Neyland v Hendy
Neyland face a tough task because they entertain Hendy, who are traditionally strong up front, and have started their campaign with wins against Trimsaran and Llanybydder. The All Blacks, meanwhile, have lost to Milford Haven and Aberaeron.
Verdict: Hendy have scored 61 points in their first two matches and are hot favourites to win this one!

Amman United v Milford Haven
Amman United are never an easy to team to beat but although they won well away at Burry Port they lost their first home match against Llanelli Wanderers – whilst Milford Haven have won both opening fixtures with a strong squad available.
Verdict: The Mariners are not always the best travellers but they should win here if they play to their potential!

Division Five (West):

Bynea v Llangwm
Bynea have lost both opening matches but they were against teams likely to be in the top half of the table and so Llangwm will need to be at full strength if they are to make it two wins out of three starts.
Verdict: The Wasps are not the biggest team around so will need to use every scrap of possession – and I think they will edge through in Bynea!

Fishguard v Pembroke Dock Quins
This Pembrokeshire derby is sure to attract a decent crowd and Fishguard will be eager to return to winning ways after a disappointing defeat in Cefneithin, whereas the Quins have lost both games so far and want to break their duck.
Verdict: I have to go for a Seagulls’ success on home soil!

Pembroke v St Clears
Already a top of the table clash as both have nine points from two winning starts, with the Scarlets having beaten Pontyates and the Quins, with the Carmarthenshire ‘Saints’ having beaten Bynea and Pontyates.
Verdict: Using Pontyates as the guide line, I believe that Pembroke can win a close encounter!

St Davids v Swansea Uplands
St Davids have struggled for players in losing to Llangwm and Penygroes but will hope for better things against a Swansea Uplands team which lost at Fishguard but then beat Nantgaredig at home.
Verdict: I hope the Saints win but I have to select the Uplands on current form!
