Pembrokeshire Harriers win Gerald Codd Trophy again
On Sunday 7th August a team of 66 young Pembrokeshire Harriers (the largest team ever) amassed at the track at STP School Haverfordwest to take part in the annual Gerald Codd Trophy Match and Pembrokeshire Harriers were triumphant, which was a fantastic result, especially as it was on their home turf.
This one-off event is held in honour of the late Gerald Codd, a local man who did so much for athletics in Pembrokeshire.
Pembrokeshire Harriers travel all over South Wales in the summer competing in the Welsh Louise Arthur Junior League. This event is the only one that the local club hosts and strong junior athletic teams from Swansea, Carmarthen, Bridgend, Llanelli, Neath and Barry travelled west to take part.
Real enthusiasm – and a special lap of honour
The Harriers Club did an excellent job hosting the event and the supporters’ bank at STP was full of hundreds of athletes and supporters creating a great atmosphere which is unique to Haverfordwest. Even the two heavy showers during the day didn't dampen the enthusiasm of the athletes on the track and in the field as they put on a great show of athletics.
It was the second year running that the Club had won the Trophy so, it was with great pleasure that Mrs Corinne Codd presented the Cup to the Harriers’ team captains, Amy Leahy (Goodwick) and Josh Davies (Solva), in front of the cheering home crowd.
The whole team then picked up the Pembrokeshire flag and trophy and did a mass lap of honour around the track in true "Chariots of Fire" style !
