Stanmore strike secures Vikings’ victory

Hakin United 1 Tenby 0
Referee Sean O’Connor
Venue: Conygar Bridge Meadow Stadium

An excellent goal by James Stanmore not only marked his return to action for Hakin United but secured the Vikings’ success in the 2011 Victory Bowl against Tenby at the Conygar Bridge Meadow Stadium.

Stanmore found the net after 56 minutes of an absorbing clash, as sub Steve Mathias gave him space wide on the right flank before a wide-angled left-foot shot flew past James Phillips in the Tenby goal.

Both sides had half chances in a goalless first period but defences stood firm, with talented teenager Kieran Rendall and skipper Ewan Findlay having good games at the back for the Vikings and Alex Harley and Gareth Lewis solid in defence for Tenby.

Things were equally tight after the interval as neither side was able to break the deadlock after Stanmore had steered his side into a lead they weren’t to lose
