Jac completes Quins’
cycle trek with ease
Pembroke Dock Harlequins junior section is currently planning an ambitious tour for 2011/12 campaign and one of their many fund-raising efforts was a recent sponsored cycle ride on Sunday 17th July, where 40 players, families and others cycled 26 miles.
Undoubtedly the youngest participant was six year old Jac Lewis, whose dad Gareth was alongside him all the way, and Jac completed the journey without a grumble. Extra proud of young Jac’s exploits was granddad Stuart, who showed the typical Lewis grit a few years ago when an injury meant that he could no longer play golf right-handed and he painstakingly taught himself to play left-handed so that he could continue to be involved.
Long trek taken in his stride
The route took them from their Bierspool Ground, across the Cleddau Bridge and down into Neyland, where they picked up the new cycle track on the old railway line through to Johnston and then on to Haverfordwest, where they took a deserved short break at McDonalds. Then it was back on their bikes for the trek back to Pembroke Dock on the cycle path, and father and son raised some useful funds by their exploits.
Stuart and Gareth were both very useful try-scoring three-quarters in their younger days and with such determination and fitness shown by young Jac then it is an odds-on bet that he will join older brother Ollie in being the next generation of the Lewis clan to serve Pembroke Dock Harlequins well!
