Pembrokeshire Harriers
power their way to 23 medals!
On a glorious, sunny day in Brecon a total of 18 Pembrokeshire Harriers competed for Dyfed Schools in the Welsh Schools Championships.
This is one of the best competitions of the season and the Harriers didn't let themselves down with some great performances and brave efforts. Their contribution helped the Dyfed team win the overall Welsh Schools Team Trophy which just shows how strong the level of competition is in our lovely part of the world (and also make a certain Hedydd Davies a very happy man again!)
Between them the Pembrokeshire Harriers athletes won 11 Gold, 10 Silver and two Bronze - and set a new record – with 9 Welsh Champions !
However, it was not only those medal winning performances which took the eye but there were a few moments of bravery from three of our athletes which stood out.
Rhian Homer took a nasty fall going over the steeplechase water barrier but she very bravely carried on, even though she was quite badly shaken...and she had to negotiate the barrier for the second time as well before going on to win the gold medal!
Eleanor Rowland's hamstring pulled while she was about 10 metres away from the second baton change in the Senior Girls Relay. However, she pushed herself on to hand over the baton and her relay team managed to get the silver.
Helena Madan unfortunately got her stride pattern wrong in the Senior Girls hurdles and pulled up at the second hurdle. However, she realised how important it was to finish and get points for the team, so she carried on the lonely run to the finish line in front of the big appreciative crowd.
Well done girls!

So, all in all the Pembrokeshire Harriers are proudly flying the flag for Pembrokeshire all over Wales – and PembrokeshireSport.co.uk congratulates every one of them!
