Pembroke Dock Cricket Club Pub Six- a-Side Competition:

Nick Daley led the Dolphin Hotel to success in the Pembroke Dock Cc annual pub six-s-side. The Dolphin makes a splash

in pub cricket competition

The Dolphin Hotel in Pembroke Dock were worthy winners of Pembroke Dock Cricket Club’s 31st annual six a side competition as they overcame the strong challenge of Pembroke Dock Quins in a high-scoring final at Imble Lane.
With each team allowed only one regular cricket player it was the Dock CC’s big hitter Nick Daley who played a key role for The Dolphin along with skipper John Connolly and the supporting cast of Jason Griffiths, Ben Steele, Jason Griffiths and Darren Gibby, home from the rigs in Scotland and showing that he could handle a cricket bat as well as a rugby ball!
Talented young all-rounder Jonathan Rogers, who plays his rugby for the Quins and cricket for Pembroke, skippered the rugby club’s team alongside Gareth Scourfield, who was a very good cricketer until he fell in love, plus Thomas Doyle, Dean Wilcox, Luke Dow and Tom Powell in what is traditionally a strong sextet for the Quins.

Notice of intent served

Both served notice of their intent in their opening games as the Dolphin Hotel beat the Star Club without losing a wicket, whilst the Quins restricted the RNA Club to 26 for 3 and then strolled to 27 without loss. They also beat the Waterman’s Arms without the loss of a wicket to march into the final.
The Dolphin boys also beat the First and Last whilst losing just a single wicket and in their semi-final chased the Bush Tavern’s useful 54 for 1 and ended up on 58 for 3 to secure their final spot. It nicely set up a final watched by a big crowd, with the Quins scoring 76 for 1 but having to give way to the Dolphin Hotel as they scored 77 for 1.

Special awards for Jamie and Glyn

The batting award for the competition went to Jamie White, who smashed 49 not out for the RNA Club in their first-round win against the Alma Inn, whilst the best bowler was Glyn Heath , who took two wickets in one over for the Bush Tavern.
Club spokesman Maurice Leyland said that he was delighted by the support shown by the local pubs and Pembroke Dock Cricket Club wished to thank everyone involved for their marvellous support, especially sponsors PK Couriers and Executive Travel.
