Strong Pembrokeshire connections as Ammanford win Welsh Premier 20/20 Cup
When Ammanford beat Sully Centurions in the final of the Swalec Welsh Premier League Cup Final there was a very strong Pembrokeshire influence since there were no fewer than five of their players with very strong local connections.
Played at the Swalec Stadium in Cardiff, Ammanford beat previous champs Sully Centurions as they batted first and scored 134 for 4 before restricting the Centurions to 118 all out.
‘Salts’ is man of the match
Former St Ishmaels’ player Andrew Salter easily won the man of the match award as he scored 56 runs from only 45 deliveries and then grabbed 4 for 16 with his canny off-spinners.
Giving ‘Salts’ plenty of support was Ammanford skipper and former Glamorgan player Alun Evans, who scored 30 not out and claimed 2 for 21 – whilst older brother Huw, who still plays rugby for Fishguard, only managed a single but used his experience to great effect in the field
Excellent bowling
Jack Murphy is another talented teenager, previously with Cresselly, and he bowled far better than his excellent 0-24 suggested because he might well have picked up a couple of wickets, as did Rhydian Harries (another former Cresselly player) who ended up with 2 for 22 to go with his well-crafted score of 22 runs.
Ammanford had already served notice of their intent when they beat Mumbles in the semi-final, restricting the opposition to 103 all out thanks to contributions from Jack Murphy (2 for 29), Rhydian Harries (1 for 20), Alun Evans (1 for 21) and Andrew Salter (0 for 14).
Then brothers Huw and Alun led the batting with respective scores of 20 and 39, with an undefeated 18 from Rhydian Harries, as Ammanford strolled to 104 for 3 in 16 overs.
