Alan Brown Cup Final Snippets:
** The competition was organised by the Pembrokeshire Association of Cricket Umpires and Scorers, under the auspices of the Pembroke County Cricket Club, and again has proved very popular with teams from division three and lower in the Nicholas Insurance Pembroke County Cricket League.
** It was a debut for Kilgetty in the competition, whilst St Clears had been involved once before.
** Congratulations to both teams on the sporting manner in which the game was played – with respect shown to each other and the officials.
** Umpires Tony Scourfield & Tony Waldeis worked well as a team – and so did scorers Rose Jenkins and Kev Goronow.
**The competition was again sponsored by the Webb family of Tavernspite Nurseries, with Paul and Janice making the presentations, who were rightly thanked for their brilliant support.
** Whitland’s Springhill ground looked an absolute picture so well done to Hilliard Davies and Gwynne Phillips for their respective work on the outfield and pitch
** In attendance throughout the day was Whitland’s popular president, Mr Cyril Evans, who certainly graced the occasion with his usual niceness. PACUS president John Williams was also there and presented the awards to both umpires and scorers.
** Whitland’s club chairman Richard Merriman doubled up as chairman of PACUS and did a great job of dealing with the presentation ceremony.
** The loudest cheer of the day was undoubtedly reserved for Stan Richards, the former chairman and president of both the county club and PACUS. Richard Merriman reminded everyone that Stan was involved in the Umpires Association from its inception in 1959, and is soon to celebrate his 90th birthday – so happy birthday Stan!
** Man of the match adjudicator was Dai Morris and he mentioned all the main candidates before opting for James Ingleton for his 45 in the first innings and six wickets during the course of the match. James was clearly delighted and received his special trophy from Paul Webb.
**Andrew Edwards received the Alan Brown Cup from Paul Webb – and thanked his team, opponents and supporters.
**The trophy looked in sparkling condition after Jane Merriman (the much better half of chairman Richard) had spent ages restoring it to mint condition.
** The superb tea prepared for players and officials was superbly done by Janice Webb and Nicola Owen – they seem to get even bigger and better every year!
** On a beautiful day the supporters were kept well-watered by Colin and Angela John, John ‘Hog’ Davies, Ed John, Arwyn Thomas, Neil Jenkins and Edward John – with a barbecue supplied by Dave Randell, Matthew ‘Titch’ Davies, Adam Davies and Owen Randell. So well done you lot!
