Harrison-Allen Bowl Quarter-Finals:

Town too streetwise for Llangwm

Haverfordwest (173 for 5) beat Llangwm (89 all out)

Umpires: Trefor Evans & Dave Brandon.

Scorers: Jayne Cole & Jeff Saies.

Richard James helped Haverfordwest to a big score against Llangwm.Haverfordwest eased through to the last four as they batted first against a confident Llangwm, paced their innings sensibly to set a challenging target and then fielded well in support of tight bowling to win by 84 runs.

Richard James opened well for Haverfordwest with a fine fifty that was liberally sprinkled with boundaries and although Karl Rhead departed early there were useful runs from Ben Field (25) and Simon Holliday (who batted at No 4 but still found time to contribute 45 runs, including two big sixes!). The Town were always scoring at about eight runs per over, despite the efforts of Darren Brick (2 for 37), Chris Inward (2 for 47) and Andrew Harries (1 for 51), before a late burst by Adam James, with 19 not out from 10 balls, took the home side to their final total.

In sharp contrast, Llangwm found themselves squeezed early on as Clive Tucker’s canny spin bowling, allied to Adam James’ pace, saw runs at a premium and wickets starting to fall as Richard James led the way with two excellent catches in the deep. Only Will Beresford and Luke Brock (with 22 apiece) ever stayed long and after Tucker (3 for 26) and James (1 for 16) played their part an excellent spell of 4 for 18 from Nathan Banner finished Llangwm off.

Narberth's Ollie Cook stumped by Cresselly keeper Neilson Cole (Pic Susan McKehon).Superb comeback for Seasiders

Narberth (77 all out)
lost to Saundersfoot (106 for 8)

Umpires: Richard Merriman & Dai Morris.

Scorers: Peter Hughes & Kevin Sykes.

Saundersfoot battled their way into the semi-finals of the Harrison-Allen Bowl as they beat Narberth in an action-packed tussle at the Lewis Lloyd Ground after battling back from a disastrous start where they crumbled to 18 for 5 and then 26 for 6.

They were quickly in trouble against Ben Quartermaine, who finished with 3 for 15, and Ian Hughes (2 for 23) – and their cause certainly wasn’t helped when Danny Caine got run out.

Their fortunes were boosted by a match-saving innings of 45 not out from skipper James Caine, who received much needed support from Phil Jones (20) and Danny Brace (15) as Ben Hughes also bowled well for his 1 for 29.

Set 107 for victory, Narberth’s tally was boosted by 21 extras, including some early wides from Nick Cope until he found his rhythm and captured three wickets in one over to end up with superb figures of 5 for 28, ably assisted by Dickie Parcell (2 for 15 and Simon Wood (1 for 17).

Narberth were soon on the back foot as only Kyle Quartermaine (16), Marc Hughes (16) and Ian Hughes (10) managed double figures - and they collapsed to 77 all out as Saundersfoot were able to celebrate their place in the final four in the competition!

Nick Koomen - big hitter for Neyland against Hook.Koomen kills off Hook hopes

Hook (83 for 9) Neyland (158 for 6)

Umpires: Steve Blowes & Arthur Chapman.

Scorers: Joy James & John Laugharne.

A sparkling inning of 62 not out by Nick Koomen helped Neyland build a challenging score against Hook and then excellent fielding and tight bowling saw them ease through to the Bowl semi-final by 69 runs.

Koomen is in a rich vein of form this season and he blasted 9 fours and a big six after Paul Murray (21) and Gregg Miller (33) had given Neyland a cracking start with a stand of 51 in less than eight overs. Gary Martin was the pick of the Hook bowlers with 3 for 30 alongside Tom Blaxland (2 for 37) and Matthew Holder (1 for 37) but Hook conceded 21 extras as well as allowing Neyland to turn lots of singles into twos with the visitors’ positive running between the wickets.

Hook were soon in trouble when they batted as they lost key run-makers Ross Martin and Jamie Phelps early on to Patrick Hannon, who bowled really well for his 3 for 20 haul. Blaxland (25), Brennan Martin (16) and Brennan Lay (12) were the only Hook batsmen in double figures as the spin trio of Andrew Miller (2 for 9), Scott Jones (2 for 27) and Gary Lloyd (1 for 30) kept the pressure on so that Neyland were worthy winners and now take on Carew in the semi-finals.

Tom Richards - four wickets as Carew beat Stackpole.Carew experience shows

Stackpole (123 for 9) Carew (126 for 1)

Umpires: John Williams & Denis Chiffi.

Scorers: Clare Cox & Tom Davies.

Carew marched into the last four as they restricted Stackpole to a reasonable 123 for 9 and then reached their target for the loss of only one wicket with 3.1 overs still in hand.

Stackpole were in trouble early on as they lurched to 13 for 3 but then Richard MacKay had 49 runs, including two sixes and three fours, and Simon Cole supported with 35 (four fours), in a stand of 75 Roger Lewis also chipped in with 12 runs as Tom Richards topped the Carew bowling with 4 for 23, assisted by Scott Helmich (2 for 22), Matthew Phillips (2 for 24) and Ceri Brace (1 for 22).

Stackpole needed a good start if they were to trouble Carew but openers Ian Sefton and Nick Scourfield made sure there was no hint of a chance of an early Carew collapse. Sefton rapped three fours and a six in his 31 in 29 balls before he finally fell to Chris Gibbs, but Scourfield moved confidently to 45 not out in 46 deliveries (five boundaries) and was well supported by Gareth Lewis, who stroked three fours and two sixes in his 35 not out, as Carew moved strongly into the last four.
