Quins under12s share silverware at Parc y Scarlets

As reward for winning the Pembrokeshire Cup for their age category, the Pembroke Dock Quins under 12s travelled to Parc Y Scarlets recently to face Llandeilo, the winners of the Carmarthenshire Cup.
Having won the toss, the Quins took the game to the opposition and with some good driving play from Ieuan Jenkins, Tom Watson and Matthew Washbourne, scrum half Oli Lewis was able to put burly No8 Hywel Baker on a bullocking run before he then put speedster Geraint Powell through the gap to open the Quins’ account before Danny Wainwright converted.
This stung Llandeilo into action and after a series of penalties they were able to get a foothold in the Quins’ 22 – and from a tap penalty Aaron Hemmings was able to dart over to open Llandeilo’s account and Osian McEvoy levelled matters with the conversion.
The remainder of the 1st half was a rearguard action for the Quins since Llandeilo has most of the possession and only stout defence by forwards and backs alike keeping them at bay, with Blake Hughes, James Thomas and Andrew Skone all putting in telling tackles.

Superb Quins’ defence

After the half time oranges it was business as usual and the Quins had to continue their defensive effort with Aaron Boswell, Joe Gray and Tom Barrass putting in sterling efforts. Llandeilo thought they has stolen it when centre Corey Baldwin broke through the defence and a run to the line only for outside half Aaron Cookson to put in a try-saving tackle and put him into touch. From the resulting line out Jordan Davies and the other Quins’ forwards were able to take the pressure off the Quins’ line.
Momentum swung back and forth with both sides having chances, but it was the Quins who finished the stronger, and after Llandeilo infringed, Danny Wainwright pushed them back into their 22 and the Quins’ pack took the fight to them and were only just denied a score to finish. So the game ended honors even and it was decided that the trophy would be shared. This was a spectacular achievement for the Quins and we are all justifiably proud of them.

Quins’ team : Blake Hughes: James Thomas; Andrew Skone; Danny Wainwright; Geraint Powell; Aaron Cookson; Oli Lewis; Tom Watson; Tom Barrass (Capt); Joe Gray; Jordan Davies; Ieuan Jenkins; Matthew Washbourne; Aaron Boswell; Hywel Baker. Replacements. Jordan Palmer; Tig Kingha;  Morgan Rogers; Craig Jones;  Scott Trayharn.
