The weather was indeed kind to the Pembrokeshire & District Junior Rugby Association for their Finals Day at Haverfordwest, which featured the best of young local talent watched by very large and enthusiastic crowds as play started promptly at 11.30am and went on until 5.30pm.

The day was superbly organised by Kenny Davies in conjunction with Haverfordwest RFC’s Gareth Griffiths, Delyth Summons, Graham Dalton, Jeff Clout and Brian Stephens, with District H representative JR Jones and Junior Rugby Union chairman Mike Fry also in attendance. Also present to help make the presentations were Llanelli Scarlet’s Dominic Day and current Welsh youth internationals Luke Hamilton, Sam Perry and Rob Evans. The referees also played a significant part with their sympathetic understanding of the game and the end product was some fast, furious and flowing rugby for spectators to savour!

Crymych won last season’s under 13 final but the same team were unable to complete a double as Neyland edged through with a gritty performance that shaded out the young Preseli Boys.

Crymych scored tries through centre Josh McLeod (2) and winger Carwyn Vaughan, who also slotted one conversion.
Neyland were understandably jubilant by their superb success and the Crymych side’s disappointment was eased a little by having prop Steffan Harries as man of the match!

Two tries by hooker Ifan Phillips helped Crymych gain their fourth win in successive years by this talented team, despite some yeoman work by the entire Cardigan team in trying to stop Crymych playing their traditional running game.
Gritty scrum half John Curran scored the Cardigan try, converted by outside half Sion Edwards , but Phillips was joined on the scoresheet by winger Llion Harries and flanker Guto Davies, three of the tries converted by centre Elgan Wilson as second row Steffan Howells picked up the man of the match trophy as an added bonus.

Just two points separated Haverfordwest and Pembroke Dock Quins in the under 16 final, which provided a fitting end to a good day’s rugby as the young Blues eased home by two points against a Quins’ side which had George Kenniford as man of the match.
Winger Jevon Barnes landed three penalties for the Blues and full back Greg Walters scored their vital try.
For the Quins there were tries from outside half Elliot Lewis and winger Jack Price, who also kicked one conversion, as Haverfordwest did well to stop the Quins winning with this particular team for the third year on the trot.
