New sponsors for Pembrokeshire League cricket

Nicholas Insurance Services of Haverfordwest will be the new sponsors of the Pembroke County Cricket League this season following the decision by former sponsors Antur Insurance to step down.

Principal John Nicholas said “Nicholas Insurance Services are delighted to be appointed as the next sponsors of the Pembroke County Cricket Club League.”

Both John Nicholas and General Manager Brian Hawkins have a long history of involvement with Pembrokeshire Sport.  John Nicholas added “We are hopeful that our involvement as sponsors will assist Pembroke County Cricket Club in the continuation of the excellent work they do in development of the very high standard of Cricket that we enjoy in Pembrokeshire.”

Strong links

John Nicholas and Brian Hawkins have strong links to the Camrose and Spittal Cricket Club, as former youth organiser and current player respectively.

A former Welsh Premier League football referee, Brian Hawkins played for Neyland and Herbrandston reams before joining Camrose and Spittal.

Spittal connection

Whilst only ever played cricket on a social level John Nicholas has taken a lifelong interest in Pembrokeshire cricket together with county and international cricket.

John became a strong supporter of Spittal Cricket Club when it formed following the closure of Trecwn CC, and provided a ground for Spittal at his home in Scolton Home Farm.

Several enjoyable years were had playing cricket at Scolton , and one of John’s most proud moments was when Spittal Youth won the Ormond Youth Cup in 1997.

John spent many years as youth organiser at Spittal and continued in this role for several years when the club moved to its current location at Camrose, when the Club acquired its new name of Camrose and Spittal CC.

Youth development

He has always been an advocate of young player development and said “As all youth organisers or coaches will know a lot of hard work and effort goes in for what at times appears to be very little reward .However satisfaction does arrive, and you may be the only person to feel it when you see that smile or hear the excitement when one of your young players gets that call from a senior club captain and told “you’re in the side this week “

My message to all youth organisers. Keep doing what you’ve always done so well.

The future of cricket is in your hands.

County Cricket secretary Bill Marchant said “We are delighted to have the company on board and trust that we shall all have three enjoyable years working together in the interests of Pembrokeshire cricket.”
